Separate Character slots for PvP characters

A proposal to keep PvP & PvE players both happy (well happier than currently)

Have a few character slots available for PvP characters only.
These characters are would be only allowed in PvP area's but would have the ability to change to any race or class for a small fee and have a large pool of skill points available after reaching level 50 on one character (either PvE or PvP) that can be assigned & reassigned (again for a small fee). Other skills such as mount training could also be maxed for the PvP characters if maxxed on any PvP or PvE character previously.
This would allow virtually any build of race & class for a minimal fee and would allow freedom to experiment and adjust builds easily.
Gear could be obtained in PvP areas or by PvE characters (which would still be leveled the conventional way).

This would also make it easier to separate the PvE & PvP skills and abilities as they could be designated by the PvE & PvP character slots.

    I disagree with this idea.

I believe the logical way to seperate PvP from PvE is by skills.

This means, the characters use the same skills as today but when entering PvP, the flip over to PvP skills or even better, the two bars are saved to PvP zoning but differ from PvE zones upon entering.

No. I've spent millions of gold building a character that can play in PVP, standard PVE, dungeon PVE and dueling without changing any gear. You can too. It just takes time, practice and gold.

Bad idea. The fun is in building up your character - this is a MMORPG after all. And in the choices you have to make along that way.

You obviously want a different game...

This is terribad. Just separate by gear and skills, if you cant keep 2 armor sets and understand which goes where for which aspect of the game MOBAs sound like what you need my friend =).

On a serious note, keep track of pvp and pve characters would be hard enough, not to mention now if I commit to pvp what if I want to run dungeons on that pvp toon? I have to log out, wait in the stupidly *** long loading screens both in and out of the selection screen.

What? So I would have to play only one or the other on a new character? Listen folks, some people, like myself, enjoy both PvE and PvP. And greatly appreciate the consistency throughout both!

As if PvP characters were a different species. From my experience all you need to do is simply swap gear and maybe CP and the same char can be good in both PvP and PvE. I totally disagree with OP.

Sorry, but I share the same view as the others to date - it's a terrible idea. There is no justification whatsoever for giving you more character slots than me because you PvP and I don't. That's just going to divide the two communities even more, not bring them closer together.

The only thing wrong with the present setup is that ZOS should make greater distinctions between skill changes that are required for one playstyle rather than another and limit the changes accordingly, i.e. if a skill needs buffing or nerfing for PvP then don't apply that change to PvE, and vice versa.

You mean like a PvP + PvE template for each character ?
Entering cyrodiil or IC switches to PvP temple.
All other areas activate the PvE template.
You can have identical PvE and PvP character templates and is the default.
    I can go with that.
Removes the I am gimped because I do both and hate respeccing all the time problem.

    Nice.

Yep that's right...the important thing with this is that the skills perform differently in PvP vs PvE but they are the same skills so that's why you'd have different templates.

Actually I rarely PvP, but visit the forums regularly and witness (and occasionally participate in) the constant bickering between PvP and PvE players. This does not apply to everyone, but the mindsets of these two groups are sometimes mutually exclusive.
The PvP and PvE communities sometimes have vastly different opinions on aspects of the game, like leveling characters, gear design (proc sets) and the power of some skills.

    From what I have read it seems the majority of PvP players would prefer to;

    a) Grind characters to 50 as quickly as possible rather than quest/progress through zones
    b) Have skill points accessible account wide
    c) Not have to complete fighters/mage/undaunted on each character (forced to do PvE content)
    d) Be able to change class/race/skills easily to test set-ups (or in some cases...chase the elusive meta)
    e) Have separate skills & gear for PvE and PvP
    f) Have balance rather than bling.

    From what I have read it seems the majority of PvE players would prefer to;

    a) Quest & progress through zones to level 50
    b) Earn skill points for each character, exploring for skyshard and completing quests
    c) Not have to complete alliance skills (vigor/warhorn/caltrops etc) on each character (forced to do PvP content)
    d) Play a different class while questing, exploring.
    e) Have separate skills & gear for PvE and PvP
    f) Have bling rather than balance.

Of course this does not apply to everyone as many people enjoy both PvP and PvE.

As I said earlier in the post I do not PvP much, but I am of the impression that the core of what PvP should be is about pitting your skills (or your teams skills) against another player(s) or team. Selection of gear and abilities is important, but not the 'grind' to get them and for balance all characters need to be the same level.
Finally, luck should be no substitute for skill in a 'balanced' PvP environment (eg proc sets).
You mean like a PvP + PvE template for each character ?

Yeah, this IS a better description of what I was trying to suggest.
Once the character has been transfered to the template you can change class/race/skills etc..but this template can only be used in PvP and with skills slightly modified for PvP.
It would also make it easier for people who predominantly PvE get into PvP, as they can easily modify their PvE character to be more effective in PvP. They would still have to L2P PvP but it would help with the learning curve.
These templates could be saved (eg PvP character slots). Not giving PvP extra slots just more options for everyone.

I personally played a lot of guild wars 1
That PvP design, in my opinion was poor so it's not going to be something that I'd support in any other game

It never made any sense because why have two different separated character situations when you could've just made a better game function and meshed the character into different game modes.
