9 Trait Sets - Any Good?

In a few days I will have learned 9 traits for all armor pieces and most weapons. From reading these forums, it seems most folks are underwhelmed with the current 9 trait sets. Any suggestions for 9 trait sets for a stamina NB and a magicka sorc (PVE for both)?

Twice Born Star is the still the darling of the Min Maxers.

Most of the 7,8 and 9 trait gear sets are more Niche than general purpose make me a god type of gear. So, you have to know your build and playstyle in order to pick out one of these sets. Simply asking for the best Stamina or best Magic is not really going to get you a consensus answer, just a lot of opinions.

Also, the new dropped sets contain some intriguing bonuses, and since most come with Jewelry you can run 2 5 piece sets, plus a Monster item or two. The 5 piece can be crafted so Hundings or Julianos with one of the new sets could be the hot set up, all things depending. Of course there is the Proc sets out there now that feed off each other.

So, its feast time with regards to sets, you just have to pick out what your going to fill up on.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

The joy of Twice-born Star is that you can be somewhat flexible with it and switch around with your two Mundus Stone effects to tailor it to your play-style.

The downside is as soon as you switch out one piece (e.g. to see what another piece of equipment looks like) you lose your second mundus stone effect and have to trundle off to activate it again.

TBS is interesting, as it was quiet for a while. I ran it leveling for a while and it wasn't a thing people hardly ran it. Then in recent months a few people start talking about it and BOOM, now its the most wanted Crafted set. It's funny how things work.It used to be all about Julianos.

I liked TBS to switch easily between PvP and PvE, just chase those Mundus's (Mundusae?)

But yeah, TBS is cool, and the 9 item tank set i know a few like that.

TBS is my darling and my suggestion for Newbies who ask me to craft for them, whilst levelling and trying out skill-lines and other sets. @Rev Rielle, @Nestor & @Beardimus list some of the reasons why and some pros & cons.

For non-max players, who want to try out TBS, I ask them to consider the following option:

    2 x Lare pieces - Chest & Legs - in TBS
    3 x Small pieces - Hands, Belt & Feet - TBS

The above is not necesarily the best choice but it minimises loosing the second Mundus, if say a Weapon or Shield was the slot making up the 5th item-set insted.

Leaving Head & Shoulders out of the equation means that players can play around with Monster Masks and Shoulders. They can make up a second 5-piece set from dropped gear, should they so wish - or in some cases, even a second crafted set.

Yes, there are specialised set combos around for endgame play but for an excellent all-rounder, in my opinion, TSB rules OK!

My personal assessment of the different 9-trait sets (as this is my own opinion YMMV):
    • Twice-Born Star. Great for DPS, and actually pretty flexible for any role. If you use this set you really want every single armour piece to be divines. Personally I don't really use this set because most of my characters frequently swap gear out to do different roles/activities (and usually even when turning in quests in order to level skill lines), and I would constantly have to be re-applying mundus buffs.
    • Armor master. Great for tanks, and terrible for other roles. This set buffs your resistance/health by so much that you can generally get away with using less tanky sets for the rest of your gear. I use this on several of my characters for their tank setups.
    • Morkuldin. The 5-piece bonus is fun, but not super effective compared to a lot of 5-piece bonuses out there. If you're looking for a secondary set for a stamina DPS and you'll only be getting as high as the 4-piece bonus on it, this is usually my preferred crafted set for that. I do have 2 characters who use this set for the 5-piece bonus, but that's mostly just because it's fun to have a flying sword suddenly fighting at your side.
    • Eternal Hunt. This set is good for a troll-roll build with 5-piece Morihaus. Dodge-roll through enemies for fun times! It's pretty corner-case though.
    • Pelinal's Aptitude. In theory this set should make hybrid builds more viable. In practice I think hybrids need more love than just this set in order for them to really be viable.

Thanks for all the input! I may craft a Twice Born set and experiment with different Mundus stones. I just feel like since I went to the trouble to learn 9 traits, I should craft at least one 9 trait set. :)

You're darn right they need some love. Hybrids shouldn't be relegated to a single set to be viable for difficult content, regardless of what anybody thinks about the viability of not min/maxing in the first place.

TBS is the shizz, but it doesn't really shine until you make it legendary. If you're only going to purple for awhile other sets may be better....I think.

Pelinals opens up soooo many sets to magicka that it makes hybrids really workable. If you understand how to use the set passives right, then changing your 5pc pelinals makes for a great build.

This is pretty spot on. TBS is best pretty much best in slot in groups where you're getting Aggressive Warhorns. Otherwise most people aren't going to see a huge difference between TBS and other sets. If people are just running around doing 4-man content most people aren't going to see a major difference in, say, Hunding's -vs- TBS. But man, once those warhorns come out...

Pelinal's is decent, but it's very limited in scope. There are some builds that came make great use of it, but Pelinal's would really need to normalize Stamina/Magicka to the higher of the two values in addition to Weapon/Spell damage to really be viable.

The difference between 5pc purple and gold TBS is less than a percent for crit chance/crit damage when running Thief/Shadow. Gold enchants make a much bigger difference overall.

Hey @PS4_ZeColmeia I'd be very curious to see an example or two of a decently workable hybrid build using Pelinals. I've got a couple of lower level characters (level 25) who I want to use as hybrid builds, but I'm not sure I can make it feel like anything other than handicapping myself.

I typically get HA sets in Chest and boots, MA in gloves, boot, chest or legs, and LA in waist, hand, and boots. This is important because with Pelinals, you will need to switch armor types to maximize your pen/crit chance/damage/resists. When trying to max these stats obviously you follow LA for higher pen/crit, MA for damage, HA for damage/resists. HA is a better choice for damage if your buffed stats are under 3260 weapon/spell damage.

Ok as an example, my current favorite pelinal's set up is ice furnace. You can do all 3 elemental types with it, which means you can have 3 different status effects going. The AOE proc can all crit and is a great way to do AOE damage which trying to heavy weave to recover magicka. I typically pair this with MA and flawless dawnbreaker, all divine gear, thief mundus. This pretty much gives you a 20% increase to spell damage at all times that stacks with major brutality and empower. This works well with HA if you are a tank.

The best all around set is dreugh king slayer, especially for farming. You kill, you sprint to the next target and then continue running. you basically get 4 sp for free if you do a lot of blade of woe, and the buff lasts longer. You can do this with any armor, but I typically run this in LA when farming.

Last thing is it is smart to also get 1 weapon in whatever set you are in. When you use a different 5pc than the dropped set you are using, the weapon being in the dropped set let's you Pelinal any 5pc you want.
