Just picked up the game again after some time off, trying to get into tanking for dungeons now and later hopefully trials. Aside from needing sword and shield for taunting not really sure where to start on skills for tanking. Currently 140 champion and imperial race. Any tips would be appreciated.

    Welcome back,

I would look at Woeler on youtube for some tanking tips. Tanking these days is more about providing support for your group rather than just standing and blocking.

The main tanking sets usually involve tavas, bloodspawn, ebon/alkosh.

Look you don't need to go looking up the same build on 50 websites that all have fancy names given by ego-centric posters.

Igneous Shields, Pierce Armor, Heroic Slash, Absorb Magic, Structured Entropy/Vigor/Free slot etc. and Agressive Warhorn
Choking Talons, Inner Beast, Relentless Grip, Absorb Magic, Structured Entropy/Vigor/Free slot etc. and Magma Shell

That will do you for dungeons and you can modify as you learn what works for you and when to use them

Good easy to obtain sets are Dragon, Ebon, Imperium, Lunar Bastion or assorted crafted. Bloodspawn, Engine Guardian, Troll King for undaunted helms. I prefer sturdy trait on armor.

You can have too much armor/spell resist leave some buff room 20-24k never fails me. Health 27-31k is sweet spot. Sword and Board both bars. Jam 64 stamina attribute. CP will have to wait until you get more but plenty of Shadow Ward to start. Fan out your red CP between Hardy, Ele. Defender. a little in Thick Skinned and some in Bastion and Quick recovery. Ignore all the rest of the red Tree they are a waste for the most part. On jewelry I like 2 block cost and a magicka regen. All stamina on the armor enchants. 6 heavy and one medium armor piece, I don't use any light myself. The medium piece is usually on the Undaunted sets as it leaves flexibility in acquiring them and most dropped sets are all heavy so no room for light/medium armor in those slots outside the head and shoulder. I feel you get a bit more from a pinch of medium armor passives anyway. There is something to chew on to get you started.
I didn't choose tank life, tank life chose me.

They used your video that was pre-One Tamriel. I noticed that you said were going to try a few sets that I've been looking at:

    -Werewolf Hide
    -Akaviri Dragonknight
    -etc

Did you, by chance, get to test them out and compare them to the pre-One Tamriel "meta" (Tava, Bloodspawn, Ebon)?

Some of these look like they'd be excellent for DK tanking. I like the idea of teaming up some of these ulti-regen/reduce sets with resource return sets. For example:

(Black Rose, Bloodspawn, Werewolf hide) Looks like it would return resources and Ultimate every time a tank is hit.

(Knight Errant, Bloodspawn, Akaviri Dragonguard) Looks like it would reduce ultimate costs, return ultimate, and offer good self heals while taunting.
Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.

None of the sets that became available have changed anything about the tanking meta, there is nothing that can compare to the things you see in that video. Hard to beat tavas+bs+ dragonguard(or the case of an organizaed trail setting, alkosh) . The only time you really need to wear ebony is in trials, and that is on the off tank, 99% of the time, in vet dungeons, it is better to have a set like dragonguard or werewolf hide. There are positives about ebony but a four persons dungeon is a lot more forgiving then a trial.

Now tanking is a very diverse role, I would go as far as saying the most diverse, compared to healing and dps, as with both of them there are clear way to min/max. But tanking is different and can be completed in different ways. A good tank can save a group wipe by a errant dps that wasn't paying attention. So find what works for you but the meta hasn't really changed.

This is the difficult thing about tanking as well:

I was running vDSA the other day and I realized that the "meta" tanking build doesn't work on the last boss if you do it the "speed burn" way. (That is, the two DPS and Healer keep the Main Boss at the beginning gate while the tank pulls the four bosses across the room.)

For this instance, though, it's hard to determine exactly what the best build is. VDSA isn't your normal 4 man dungeon... nor is it a trial. The tank needs a VERY sustainable build (because he/she is tanking four bosses while the rest of the group is across the map).

So, what's the best build for that last stage? It's not Tava/BS/Alkosh... because your Warhorn and synergies don't reach the group. Is it Black Rose, BS, and Knight's Errant?

I have completed the last boss fight in vDSA the way you have described, though to be fair the last few times I had a master sword on my front bar. And I have dragonguard, instead of alkosh, on my back bar. The trick is to have tripots and just use war horn or magma shell when you have to. Then bashing the mages or just avoiding the damage from them. None of them hit really hard otherwise.
