Best in Slot Item hunting

Just today I have gotten my MagSorc to Champion 147 and figure that he will be at 160 fairly soon. I have never had a high level character before and I am loving it. It's soon to be time to following the class guides that I sm so fond of reading/watching but I wonder about best in slot items.
When a best in slot item mentions a particular trait or rarity, etc. , for the specific trait do you just have to keep dungeon delving or going into the same trials over and over and possibly getting the right sword (for instance) with the wrong trait again and again until you get the right combination, or can you "re-craft" the trait on the item for the one that you want? Can you upgrade the item's rarity with tempers at a crafting station? Last question, I think: If you do have to "hunt" for the right trait, are the number of traits for a named item like a maelstrom staff limited to a few of the traits or can it be any trait in the game?

You run that same dungeon over, and over, and over, and over, and over again until you get the right trait.
If you have really friendly friends, they can trade/give it to you in/shortly after the instance.

✭✭✭✭✭You can upgrade an items quality with tempers but you can not re-trait them. You have to keep hunting for the item you want with the trait you want.
Example: You want a sharpened viper's dagger. This drops from the last boss in Fungal Grotto
You kill it once and get a dagger but it has precise on it instead. You would have to keep going back and doing this until the one you want drops.
Finally the boss drops a sharpened viper dagger, but it is blue quality. Now you can use your crafting skills to improve it to purple, and then to gold.

✭✭✭✭✭Do you mostly PVP or PVE? You will want to wear different gear mostly likely for both.
Nice thing is that you can craft/buy a really good starter set and then work on upgrading with dropped gear.
Get to 160 before you spend a penny on gear.0 -
Oh yeah, that's the truth. Luckily, my MagSorc is a master crafter. He has pretty close to 9 traits in everything but heavy weapons and medium armors. I have been concentrating on Heavy Armors (most are 8 trait), Woodcrafting (most are 9 trait), and light armors (most will be 9 trait within the next 27 days). So I can "almost" make a 9 trait set like TBS. I am not there yet but I am close. I am not going to make legendary gear until I am 160 cp though. If you want a Sharpened viper dagger (or 2) simply farm the 2nd boss in Fungal grotto II her unique dropped item 'knife of shadows' is a Sharpened viper dagger and you can have 2 on the same characterPS4 EU CP900. PS4 NA CP600,
