[Suggestion] Crafting Reforge

We all love to have the best gear available to make the ultimate build, and many people love making our characters look great with motifs. As of now, we cannot do this, and if you want some of the best sets you will be forced to mix and match stuff that dont fit together at all, and your friends back at the Inn will laugh at you for your taste of fashion. This suggestion fix that! This allows you to be able to reforge any gear except Undaunted Helmet/Shoulders. Here is a quick rundown on how it works:

Who can do this?
To be able to do this you need to be level 50 in the crafting skill in question

Cost of Reforging
1x Crown Reforge Stone - Bought in the Crown Store
or
1x Reforge Stone - Drops from Dungeon (15%)/Trial (25%) bosses.
and
3x Style Material - of the wanted style

When Reforging
35% chance to degrade one quality level
15% chance to degrade two quality level
The chances cannot be influenced

I like that. But seriously, I don't even get why we need that many downside. What harm to the game's mechanics can it do to change your gear appearance?
I undestand that you are trying to make concessions so ZOS would more easily allow this option, but I really don't understand why they wouldn't want us in the first place.
Which makes me think it's more of a programming/ressource prioritization problem.

Drop three quality levels? It'd be easier to just remake and crafted set. The non-crafted sets that are already gold would probably never have this used on them either.
The generally amicable yet sporadically salty magplar that may or may not have 1vXed you in Sotha Sil. Who knows?

The drop quality level was really just for more realism :P If you reforge something irl, there is a chance that the quality drops because of slam and other stuff. Ofcourse, would be much better without!

If you're gonna drop the quality levels, you might as well just craft a whole new item. Not to mention the 10x style material, it'd be better to just make a new item. If something like this was implemented I'd never use it - too many downsides.

Very nice idea. Just a couple suggestions:

-Requires max level in the crafting skill in question
Absolutely. Totally agree on this one.

-Requires a Crown Reforge Stone that can be bought at the Crown Store, just like Mimic Stone, but a bit more expencive - Could possibly have a 5% drop rate at Dungeon bosses and 10% at trials
Crown Store would be ok as long as there are ways to obtain it in-game. Dropping from dungeon/trial bosses as you suggest would be good, though personally I'd say up the drop rate a bit.

-Reforging an item requires 10x of the style material in question
Seems a bit excessive. Maybe 3x per piece? Common styles (Breton, Dunmer, Khajiit, etc.) wouldn't be an issue, but the exotic ones would be hard to come by. Then again, these are supposed to be rare so maybe it would be ok.

-Reforging an item takes it down 3 quality levels
I can certainly get behind this. There should be some downside after all. Though, three levels is a bit much, IMO. I'd say 1 level, maybe 2. And make it only a chance to degrade 1 or 2 levels.

-Reforging an item binds it immediatly to the account
I'd say no to this. Reason being that master crafters would have a market to craft for again. Although, this only works if the reforge gems are not Crown Store exclusive.

I'd use it on my purple rattlecage to turn it to some pretty glass armor, but if it were gold already I'd be dumping so much $$$.

I think the biggest issue is how much gold you have to spend just to max out a piece of gear. It's so expensive that it isn't worth recrafting every time a new, better motif comes out. I have no problem switching my purple crafted gear out though, provided I don't need the ancestor silk for anything else.

I recently recrafted my Kagrenac's Hope set from Xivkyn to Celestial without batting an eye because my Xivkyn was purple. I golded the celestial so for all intents and purposes, I will never change style again.

Any gear worth reforging (has set bonuses) are already bound to the account so there is no market for this.

Drop sets in the zones are BoP? I thought they were BoE.

No for degrading quality levels. Too much risk for gold items and for non-craftable set items that dropped in a perfect trait (after 1000+ run...). Because of this I wouldn't use this feature at all.

    Great post!

Although I would agree to be able to change the style of any crafted piece, done this or that way, I cannot agree with having the ability to change world dropped set items.

Quite the contrary, I would prefer that those dropped set items, like the monster sets, have a unique style found nowhere else. The idea would be to make sure that that precise style is for that "ancient legendary set" and not something you can just craft or recraft in, let's say, Bosmer, Altmer or Argonian, etc.

However, you may want to add a costume crafting ability to the game for alternative aesthetics.

I must say that I dislike crown store part. Also if by "changes cannot be influenced" you strip one from being able to upgrade the desired item to gold quality, then the idea is even worse. If you wanted to punish players, just make it that if reforging fails they end with no item at all lol.

In GW2 they use a system called transmutation. You can apply any unlocked skin to an item. The transmuted item have the characteristics of the original base item and the appearance of the skin applied.
    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wardrobe#Transmutation
Of course, they sell transmutation charges in the store, so ZOS can benefit from doing someting similar.

Monster sets should definitely be excluded from reforging. Those are unique styles and the lore states they are crafted from the bosses they drop from. However, I do think that most drop sets should be able to be changed. Perhaps leave a few ultra rare or unique sets (aside from monster sets) that cannot be changed.

    Feedback:

Seems cool BUT any level requirements need to be removed.
Also, any diminishing results need to be removed.

This should work exactly like improving items.
-have X number of mats and passive skills impact results.
It's either a success or results in loss of item.

There should not be any crown store involvements as again this should work just like improving items.

Also, the trait choices must be researched in order to have access as well as the trait may just like crafting.

    That's my feedback

I don't like the degrade. If we need to have it then it should be mitigated by trait knowledge.

Knowing all the traits is much more of an achievement than just reaching level 50, and true Master Crafters should get something in return.
