It's even more charming when they stand on top of you spamming flashy and noisy spells in an effort to try to MAKE you fail.

The only chest I might fail is master one, lower can be failed only if I played for 10+h that day and want to drop dead from exhaustion.

Sometimes I do this on the off chance that they'll leave me a treat. I used to do that if I saw someone hovering, I'd leave them the gold or whatever other crap I didn't want. But I put auto loot on to make dungeons faster, so now I can't do that and I feel bad :(

I stay because a lot of times people don't loot completely, run out of picks, can't pick the lock.

It is a jerk move stealing it

I have done this before but I told the person that it was just because I need to level legerdemain and they can have the contents after I unlock it.

It is odd that people do this. 99% of the time it is trash.

I couldn't do that even if I wanted, my latency is too bad.

There was one time though, I was racing against another player to reach the damn chest on a peaceful Khenarthi's roost shore. It was a master lock, beefy loot.

He obviously got to try at the lock before me.
    He failed.
    Latency strikes back.
    He retries and fail again.

He realized he ran out of lockpicks and walked away.

Damn it felt good, I got it on the first try.

I can tell the people that do this by the replies.

    Gross, simply gross.

If I see someone opening a chest, I leave. Why is that so hard for people? I don't steal things from other people

You are running around killing other mobs in the game and then looting them. Murder and theft. Stop being such a hypocrite.

I just wanted to say how disturbing it is that you can't tell the difference between "negative actions" that are ok (because they're against NPCS and the game environment) vs "negative actions" that are not ok (because they affect actual people playing the game). I added in parenthesis the reasons why the actions might be considered ok vs not ok since it seems like that might be the part people struggle with.

This thread is just an argument between people who like to be kind to their fellow players versus ones who don't. It's sad. As an older MMO player, i remember when people had a lot more "codes" between players in the old days. You'd respect camp rules and loot rules, your reputation actually meant something. I kind of miss when MMOS were more niche between a smaller group of similar social outcasts.

    Oh I give up!

Its like trying to explain the concept of sharing to a kindergarten class or asking a flock of seagulls to queue up for a chip

No. it is more like going to a basketball game and asking why the teams dont seem to like sharing the ball. And when someone explains it is because that is the way the rules and the mechanics of the game are set up. You get frustrated and tell people they are playing it wrong.

Something to consider; you might break your last pick and leave, then the chest becomes fair game. Presuming that he just automatically intended to steal it doesn't make you much better.

That's a load, you know they are there to steal. Nobody is waiting for the 1 in 100,000 chance that they came upon the one guy who is on his last lock pick. People are greedy vultures looking to get over on each other however they can. Presuming that person is there to take what you staked out is logical and within reason. You making excuses for the characterless snakes doesn't make you much better.

Common courtesy is if you see a player on a chest walk away. However, in every game there are players I call PESTS. These players in my opinion are immature spoiled brats. Every game has them they are like a plague.

This thread has seemed to run its course and there seems to be no further constructive conversation so we will be closing it.
