What is the deal with Pledges now? Is it worth coming back to game?

I've had a break from ESO for a bit (my graphics card broke among other things) but my friend and I would log occasionally and do pledges and play around.

Yesterday I logged in solo to test my new card and picked up the silver pledge, queued up, and got in a squad to complete it, but when I got in a) there was some portal at the entrance to the cave (I guess i got dropped in a failed squad?) and b) the boss was one-shotting the one DPS we had (and almost one shotting me which at 480CP and armor masters gear on a healer i shouldn't be SO behind? I think?)

So... TLDR Can anyone fill me in on the changes to the pledges and and your overall opinion of where the game is at? I want to come back, enjoy and have fun but wondering if my experience yesterday is a one-off or the new pledge experience.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Last I heard the dungeons were buffed in damage unintentionally. They were suppose to get buffed health, but damage skyrocketed as a result. I suppose that's going to be fixed sometime....

Thank you very much thats useful info.

I guess DPS will need to up their HP/defenses until it's fixed.

Not had any problems with the dungeons, the issue mainly is that some veteran dungeon mechanics are now active in normal mode and people are struggling. Given time to learn everything and people will be ok.

That said pre-patch I did pledges every day, now there are 6 keys available daily I don't feel the need because when I do want a shoulder piece a few day's farming should be enough that I don't need to stockpile.

Also the mages guild / fighters guild dailies are the worst dailies I have ever seen in any game ever.

First off, there is no silver / gold anymore. There are three pledge givers that each draw from a separate group of dungeons for their daily pledge. For each pledge quest you have three options:
    1. Do the dungeon on normal mode and get an undaunted key.
    2. Do the dungeon on vet mode and get an undaunted key and a monster mask.
    3. Do the dungeon on vet mode and activate hard mode on the last boss to get two undaunted keys and a monster mask.

Undaunted keys can now be used for any of the three undaunted chests, and each chest drops shoulders from the monster sets associated with the dungeons given out by the quest giver the chest is named for.

Many of the bosses in the dungeons, particularly the vet versions, have gotten pretty significant buffs. Some may even be bugged or overtuned currently.

Yikes that makes a lot of sense... Maybe this squad was trying to get two undaunted keys! Starting to think I had an unlucky queue for my first pledge back lol...

I don't think this is true. Dungeons are super easy in 2.6.

OP: ESO 2.6 is brought MAJOR changes. I suggest you read the patch notes:
    Undaunted Pledges
We have redesigned the Pledge system to offer more rewards more often, and at a predictable rate.

There is no longer a Bronze, Silver and Gold key. All keys have been converted Undaunted Keys and reward a Shoulder set piece with each use.
There are now three pledge givers for Undaunted Dungeon quests, with each offering a unique Pledge each day. They also have a corresponding chest which, when an Undaunted Key is used, will offer a Shoulder set piece from one of the Dungeon Pledges they offer.
Maj al-Ragath offers a random Pledge for the following Dungeons:
    Banished Cells I & II
    Darkshade Caverns I & II
    Elden Hollow I & II
    Fungal Grotto I & II
    Spindleclutch I & II
    Wayrest Sewers I & II
Gilirion the Redbeard offers a random Pledge for the following Dungeons:
    Arx Corinium
    Blackheart Haven
    Blessed Crucible
City of Ash I & II
Crypt of Hearts I & II
    Direfrost
    Selene’s Web
    Tempest Island
    Vaults of Madness
    Volenfell
Urgalarg Chief-bane offers a random Pledge for the following Dungeons:
    Cradle of Shadows
    Imperial City Prison
    Ruins of Mazzatun
    White-Gold Tower
Each pledge can be completed in one of three ways for a total of up to six keys per day.
Normal Dungeon: Completing a Pledge in a Normal version of the dungeon awards a single Undaunted Key.
Veteran Dungeon: Completing a Pledge in a Veteran version of the dungeon awards a single Undaunted Key, but completing Veteran versions of the Dungeon are also the only way to get the Undaunted Monster Masks.
Veteran Hard Mode: Completing a Pledge in a Veteran version of the dungeon after the final boss has been made more difficult will award two Undaunted Keys, in addition to awarding the Monster Mask from completing a Veteran Dungeon.
All previous dungeons that did not have a Hard Mode have been given a way to activate a mode that makes the final boss more difficult in the Veteran version, activated by the Scroll of Glorious Battle found in the final boss’ room.

BOTH have a normal version and a vet version now, the only difference is the story and the type of monster set that drops.

Regarding difficulty, I've run every non-DLC dungeon normal and found them to be normal if not easy mode, and any combo of 2-3 players reasonably strong players can do them quickly. Vet is a fair balance for champion players, and Hard Mode is--well, hard. Some of the HardMode bosses need maxCP and optimal gear/rotations, along with enough skill at mechanics to defeat.

DLC dungeons are, as they always have been, the hardest, and are much more so on HM. I've beat HM bosses with a c33 Healer in group, but never with a low CP DPS. Taniks and healers of any Champion level do fine, assuming they are competent. However, for DPS, max or close to max CP and optimized gear/rotations seem necessary to do enough damage to HM bosses to finish fights in an acceptable length of time.
