No, it wasn't meant to get a reaction. It was meant to give context. Females are certainly often treated differently by other players than men. Perhaps a little empathy would help you see the OP's concern.

So I'm a humble female player here in the PS4 NA server, DC if that matters. 460CP, if that even matters. Plus subscriber. Lately, I've had a huge gripe with what seems like literally every player I run into happens to be an elitist douchy jerk.

I'm wondering if this is something perhaps console exclusive, or if this is also a problem on pc (idk, because my 10-year old laptop sucks). It's gotten so bad, I have to be cautious about even the guilds I'm in - which btw, I do not recommend joining the [Snip] - if they want to be a bunch of other-alliance hating, sexist elitists, they can do so without me (they quite literally all ganged up on me via text chat when I pointed out one of the members being an item scammer, shouting sexist insults at me and all. Sad times when even your own guild turns on you).

But I run into this alot. Even for being CP460, it's almost as if no one wants to group with you unless you're top-tier CP531+. Which is why I have to rely on guilds more, except I have to be careful even with those (so I guild-hop alot, it's sad).

I consider myself an understanding, mature adult (30yrs old if you care), and I help and assist other players if need be. I don't understand the increase in this douchy bsing attitude, and I feel like it's getting worse. Almost to the point where even the game is no longer enjoyable.

And no you can't have my stuff. (j/k)

[Edit to remove name and shame]

Are you asking that the developers implement attitude police into their game who punish and ban rude players? Or is this just meant as some kind of warning for other players to take into account?

Either way, when ever you deal with other human beings you are going to encounter jerks because to put it frankly humans are jerks. We have all been jerks at least at one point or another. No one is pleasant and nice all the time. This is just an aspect of humanity anyone who deals with people needs to accept and expect.

Generally speaking, I don't notice this game having an unusual amount of jerks on it. But I play on PC. It might be a lot worse on console.

what sort of sexist shouting?? I'm not gonna assume anything and rather hear the full story on this.

I'm a female gamer as well, and I've experienced some sexist remarks in past mmo.. the basic "make me a sammich", "girls can't game", or "go back to the kitchen." But generally had pleasant time in the many mmo i've played.

What i'd recommend is report and ignore anyone making remarks that are against the tos. And by ignore put them on your ignore list.

trolls, which is all they are exist, and have existed in mmo since Everquest.

try to find people who have similar interests, this is how i actually met my boyfriend on ff14 and currently living with him.

If people resort to sexist remarks, it just proves their immaturity and best way to beat them is to NOT sink to their level.

Kill them with kindness, it will bother them so much more if they don't see they are getting under your skin. Also, they will just act more childish, and just give you more stuff to report, digging themselves into a hole.

I've been gaming since the age of 3 in 1989 with legend of zelda on the nes. I started playing mmo since ps2 2004 release in the US of ff11.

Try not to let trolls get to you, people are people. Some people enjoy playing the villain as an escape from their mundane life. Maybe having a toxic wife who insults them all day, or a girlfriend who invites themselves over everyday and hates that they play video games. You can learn a lot from possible trolls if you listen.

    anyway that's my two cents.

Also for those claiming it is console community issue or teens... most people who troll are adults.
It happen in every mmo pc included, WoW has a pretty nasty community, as did Aion.

Most of the people who trolled me claimed to be 30-40, this when i was 19. In ff14 there were several 40 year old who acted childishly.

Same thing in dcuo, dust514 where the main chat is voice. console and teens are not the gutter or reason of trolling.
Play Aion or WoW, those are just as bad.

Imagine starting a game the first time only to be called "a lady of the night" by 5 people only to be temp ban for 72 hours just for asking how to report it. Happen to me in WoW, and i was only on there for 5 min.

Not everyone is like this but every platform has those people in them . Just ignore and look for respectable guilds on the guild recruitment threads . You will find people tired of negativity too . It just takes a little more effort . Mean people are often louder and more talkative and that's why it seems there are more of them . I have found many of the best players are actually quiet and confident . They don't ramble nonsense to draw attention to themselves .

She is having problems because she is announcing her gender to her guilds then complaining when she gets mistreated (which is most certainly not the whole story) No one knows a persons gender in this game unless that person makes it an issue! Many guys make female chars and many girls make male chars and no harassment ensues. What I am saying is: Do you think there is the slightest just the slightest possibility her use of guild chat is bringing this on?

I believe that to be a reasonable question and my skepticism has nothing to do with my empathy. Two separate things. I do have empathy but I also am skeptical of the motivations behind this rant.

sadly i see people constantly talking about how females get harassed more. sure that is true in some cases, but as a male gamer i can not tell you how many times i have been told to go kill my self or that i am a waste as a human being and should drink bleach. The problem is just as bad for men as it is for women the only difference is we are expected to suck it up and tough it out. Female gamers want to be treated as equals then suck it up and move on. The gaming community is crappy now days, over entitled morons and people who make it their life to harass others. If a male can not complain about it then a female should not ether. Personally i think the gender wall needs to go and we all need to get along. We play games because we love games, if you find a creep block them report them and move on. I have made my stance clear on many post's i dislike what the community on games have become nothing but toxic filth. but there are some who make it worth while, the problem is finding them.

And you might not believe it, but it is not uncommon to be mistreated just for being female, with no extra reason. I mean, 2016, we would expect stuff to be different, right? It is just that some guys find it funny and harmless, I guess (I imagine these guys have trouble speaking to woman in real life, so they do this instead). Bruh, you just told someone to either deal with the negativity they receive or just turn their chat off to avoid it. Saying how they bring it upon themselves for being a woman, and defending themselves when people make unacceptable remarks toward them. But, you then turn around and say I'm a troll...? Okay dude. Some people will attack a person for anything. They will attack your gender just for something to do (not because they care about your gender) to them an insult is an insult. We call them trolls. They are a detriment to society as they breed animosity and make SJWs feel validated. The only solution is to starve them out

. They aren't as smarty as the trololos that witcher-thing Geralt talkies too.

Speaking to them makes them grow fat with ego.

Exept when it's their -job- to get involved with this garbage, like officers and such. And if I were an officer, I'd have a 'scorched earth' policy.

Still, quite frankly no, most of it is perpetuated by individuals who -will- fester if you dont kick them. Leaving them to their own devices gives the idea that sticks in their craw, to screw with the people to get a reaction. It's a bully. And if your going to write off this, then quite frankly- you- deserve to be the one to deal with it.

You can type now, ZOS added text chat recently :)

But for most of the console version's life so far, yeah, voice chat was the only way. And it is still often required by dungeon group leaders, because it is quicker and not everybody has a keyboard. On PC, it is not unusual for experienced groups to require some sort of voice chat program too, like TS or Discord, but since it doesn't have a built-in voice chat like consoles you won't have to use it so often. But on consoles, any pug group leader might ask you to turn the voice chat on because it is readily available to you. Then you can speak and show them you have a high-pitched voice or refuse and be kicked :P

Its really a shame this is happening , i have teamed up with random female players plenty of times and most of them are now in my friends list and i have to admit they kick some serious ass and sometimes puts me in shame lol and runs are always so much more fun and the jokes are just hilarious lol

Some of the best smartass comments

me "im running out of stamina to keep it up all the time"
her" so you can't keep it up ?
me" nope im having problems with keeping it up all the time "
her" you know they have pills for that "
me.." ha... ha ..good one ..SO.... not funny... throw me a shard!"

me" damm it i used my ultimate way too early "
her" so were you saving you ultimate for a while?"
me" yes i was holding on, to use it"
her" did you get too excited and prematurely used it"
    me..."yes...don't you SAY IT "
her " you know they have pills for that as well"
    me.."i.....hate......you......"

    LOL

So to all those females that play games , thank you for , thank you making the game more nicer, friendlier and so SOOOOOOO much more fun and for all smart ass comments i received lol and its unfortunate and a shame that there will always be toxic people and trolls, just ignore them like we all do and report them they are not worth your time.

When i played ff11 i never stated my gender, because i didn't want to be though of as a person seeking special treatment.

Can't tell you how often guys pretended to be females to get specials treatment.

What sexist remarks are people making mention about?

sorry if this sounds rude, but in this day and age with sjw and femnazi... people cry wolf with sexism.

I rather get the full story then assume.

I have seen these types (toxic, elitists) bring some very good, end game guilds crashing down.It is sad, but it is not indicative of the community as a whole. We do have a good thing going with our guild though now, aimed at helping each other, getting others leveled and geared. It is a shame that some people have a good time ruining others times.

I have noticed this on PS4 as well, people tend not to add low level players to the groups ect, I am only champ 360 or something like that anyway, and I don't get added into groups as much as I did...mind you I don't really care much, I run with whoever I see, also If you play in a map long enough other players get to know you anyway and start adding you to their group.

Harassment for female players? I have seen it, and experienced it a couple times... but it doesn't bother me, been gaming enough to get used to it. Also who cares what gender you are? if your a damn good player or if your funny and friendly i want you in my group even if you are level 10 :)

I agree with the OP. I too have noticed an increase in obnoxious, elitism in this game. I still think that the vast majority of people you meet online are decent but certainly there is a recent rise in the permeation of a****les!
A substantially vocal minority, who happen to be skilled at this game, seeming to get an ego boost from making condescending remarks to newer or less experienced players.
It is particularly noticeable on these forums. If an inexperienced player asks a question, you will often have a significant number of people who not only add nothing of value to the thread but also throw obnoxious insults to the person for being such a 'noob' for not knowing the answer in the first place. Such comments are usually underlined with the declaration"L2P". This seems to be the badge of pride worn by such people
The other place I see this attitude on the rise is in PUG's. The occurrence of elitist players using pug's and then abusing other players in the group who they deem not to be worthy of playing to their exalted (and often overestimated) standard.
To this minority I say, we were all new to this game once and nobody started this game with 600CP. If somebody looks for assistance on a forum, and you either unwilling or unable to assist, consider first not replying rather than using it as an opportunity to show everyone how great you think you are through condescension. This game always had a strong targeted emphasis on casual players. Its new players coming in that helps keeps the game financed.

I mostly play pvp after twice getting invited into groups only to be kicked out before we even started which put me off doing dungeons.
I have also noticed that there is a lot of abuse dealt out in pvp by people who i can only assume let their huge egos control what they type. I play for AD and will never change that , but there has been times that i have been tempted hoping that the other factions are not so toxic (i am sure that they are).
The only answer that i can think of is to use the ignore setting for toxic players as this is what i do in pvp. While i don't mind constructive criticism i cant stand those that regularly call others idiots, cowards and my own personal hate "a NOOB"
I have been playing this game since the start and been a subscriber until last month when i decided to stop the subscription. I don't get a lot of time to play and don't have the best gear but am not a noob, just not that great at the game lol.
Saying that i have also met some great people including an opponent from another faction who kicked my ass in pvp then gave me some helpful tips on where i was going wrong and invited me into his guild.
Some of the guild crafters have also been a great help as without their help my gear would totally suck.
As with everything in life there seems to be a mixture of toxic and friendly people in this game, toxic i can do without so my ignore list gets bigger by the week :)

OP is playing on ps4, which has built-in voice chat.

Are females supposed to NOT use voice chat as to conceal their gender? :T

It is what is left of the "there are no girls on the internet" crowd from a decade ago. But speaking as someone who plays MMO for well over 10 years, I can tell you for sure it is already much better than then. Much, MUCH better.

Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh. I'm a dummy. I totally forgot voice chat is mandatory on console, my mistake and I take back everything I said as I wasn't aware you had to actually speak to people on console... I thought you could type... My knowledge of consoles is relegated to SNES and PS1.

Sorry OP. And thanks for the correction @Abeille , you are right to learn me the facts on this one.

Yeah, but I still have a tendency to group pc and console together as one body of knowledge... Which is clearly a mistake. We need a Console General Forums and PC not merged cause that'll keep me from making irrelevant remarks to completely different experiences... And other reasons as well ;)

I respectfully disagree with the opinion that ignoring bad behaviour is the solution. Ignoring a problem won't make it go away, it only temporarily reduces your exposure to it.

In my opinion, people act badly because their community does nothing to discourage it. If a code of conduct was implemented and enforced, one might see a tendency to more civil behaviour. ZOS tries to do this in their forums, but there is no in-game equivalent.

As long as the members of a community tolerate unpleasantness, it will continue to thrive and grow. If there is no built-in 'policing' by the game developers, perhaps it is on us to take a stand.

Sounds like a console issue has I haven't seen anything to that nature occur on PC

Same here ^^^^^^, in fact I have a lot people who always want to play with me. Not because I'm a girl but a lot people like my play style and say I'm fun to play with. It seems this might be an issue with the people you are currently associating with; I would cut my losses and move on.

Is this your first time on the internet? But seriously, I hear you, its like every *** playing videogames online these days is a troll, or a sarcasm lord, or an elitist, or has some bruised ego, or just gets off on insulting other people and acting like a teenager whose parents are out of town and they just learned how to cuss and call people lewd things... welcome to the interwebz.
