I have been in a number of guilds for the many months on ESO. Unfortunately, there are just too many negatives for me that I find among guilds and guild members. Whether you agree or not, here are some that I have encountered and view to be negative aspects of being in a guild.
- Poor communication: Game or not, communication is 2-ways. However, too many members just do not respond at all or not timely to each other; either voice or text chat. Certain ones not keeping others in the group informed of their actions, such as pushing forward without telling or waiting for the group or picking a bounty on the bounty board without communicating to the group first, etc.
- Lack of teamwork/cohesion: Too many times a host is kicking people out of a group during a group event, and vice versa, too many times players abruptly leaving a group. Also, too many times, a host abruptly disbanding a group without first communicating so.
- Elitist mentality: Some members will not invite certain members into a group unless they are maxed CP or close to it. Then, if a player doesn't have the right fit of weapon, armor or equipment, to someone's liking, then they are also not fit for their group and even kicked out of a group. Many seems to also have that "I'm better than you" mentally and are too impatient with newer or inexperienced players.
- Quantity over quality: I find that most, if not all the guilds with upper 300 or more members, perhaps, only 10-25% of members are active. With this, many times, members are repeatedly calling out (in vain) for members to join or form a group; particularly for a trial run.
- Questionable leadership: Guildmaster or its officers kicking people out of the guild without communication. Many times, on zone chats, people are complaining they were kicked from a guild without given a reason, and even though, they had paid the weekly guild fee for those guilds that charge. Although I wasn't one of those complaining on zone chat, that had also happened to me. Further, no respond from reaching out to such guildmaster or its officer.
- Many instances of lack of respect and courtesy towards each other: Can't say much more about this.
I can go on and on. Although, I want also point out, there are good things about being a part of a guild. Having access to use/sell in the guild store is one. However, for me, there are just too many negatives that outweigh the positive, which makes a guild experience the lesser enjoyable part of this game.
If any would like and wants to contribute to this post, you can add your positive and negative aspects of being in a guild.
