Why is there no dot love for ranged magicka nb?

Dots for the magicka nb are extremely underwhelming in pvp. Don't get me wrong, cripple and prolonged suffering have some utility but compared to the burst, instant healing tank meta it is no good. I want to run a dot build but it's pointless. I could use thermaturge but then I sacrifice points in more important areas like erosion and elemental.

So either rework these skills to make dots useful or implement dot damaging armor. Why is there no light armor that increases dot damage? Would that make dks and Templars OP? I don't know... But I do know that dots are very underwhelming for a ranged magicka nb

Yep... i have been struggling with this for a while now and it really is unfortunate.

There is no kite dynamic in this game as far as pvp is concerned. As long as gap closers are not confined to any sort of cool down, and they keep there damage AND low cost to use, with a tiny dead zone that you simply cant play around, then there is no hope for a solid back and forth ranged softer caster vs strong melee build pvp dynamic. Throw unchained and CP resource benefits into the mix and you can just forget it,

You find this in almost every other mmo simply due to how you balance gap closers in a system that houses ability CDs.

Now on top of all that, you then have active dodging and passive 20 percent. Put that together with the reality that most of the powerful dots NB has access have tied in soft cc components that are null and void thanks to shuffle, and the fact that the best dot/root/snare spells move at the speed of smell, you are going to see dodge at least 80 percent of the time on your screen. Then you have to recast them in hopes that they will connect, eating away at your magicka.

Oh and lets not forget resource draining poisons that really only create a serious issue for magicka builds if we are being honest.

MagNB on paper has interesting concepts for kiting, and it is the reason i went with it when i first picked this game up. In execution its incredibly difficult to actually work it out.

But hey at least we have soul strike now right?

In general it's rough as a ranged magnb to kill good players running the meta builds. A lot of times I just see "dodge, dodge, dodge" because everything is a projectile.

One thing that I found works a bit better is using a lightning staff instead of inferno so even when they dodge roll and have shuffle up to passively dodge attacks, you're still able to do a lightning heavy. Then it's just a matter of waiting until their health is low enough to do a meteor + agony combo.

As a side note to your idea with light armor increasing dot damage: I'm not sure either tbh, but I can't see mdks getting some love being too big of a problem .

You bring up some good points.

I also think it is completely unfair that as a ranged mageblade our main damage dealing spell funnel/swallow is constantly dodged or reflected due to the meta. ZOS really needs to rework shuffle and the dodge window to make other builds more competitive. Because right now I do a combination of funnel health, cripple, agony, lotus fan, fear, and refreshing paths and the result is nowhere near close to what the meta can do. It's like beating my head against the wall. I just can't get these guys down in a 1v1 situation. The dots are absorbed and out healed and main damaged is dodged while their burst keeps putting me in the defensive. I don't think nightblade dots and funnel/swallow provide enough bang for the buck in today's meta.

Agree 100%, I can survive with my shields, but I rarely have enough sustain+burst to finish the stam meta off. The lightning staff helps, but for those in black rose with reflect/s&b I usually just bail because it's not worth my time. It's the reason I switched to just ganking.

It sucks because I really don't want to switch over to a stam build. I wish they'd just remove major evasion from PVP already.

honestly... just make it so ranged spells can be dodged by passive evasion. at the very least, the slow moving ones ffs.

I play dot build on my mobile. I have been top 10 in xbox 1 Hadarus server a few times with it. But it's not a solo build. It's a build to support the front line by using cloack to help in your positioning and kiteing. I run elegance with sargents mail and 1 Kena. Max my lightning staff dmg to always hit the meta build with high sustain. The prolong suffering dot with staff tics hit for an ever age 3k per sec in meta builds. On week please u can melt them with 4-5k tics of combined dmg thathe is 100% hit. I have vids onot my Xbox 1 profile. Ashthestampede1. My build is not one of those awesome I'm going to wreck every one meta style. But it's a fun dot build while I run with my meta buddies to secure kills against the other meta builds who try to tree hug. I don't let them recover since I hit them none stop with 100% attacks.

I find this hard to believe. No way your prolonged suffering dots are doing 3k a sec. My prolong suffering tooltip is slightly over 10,000 and with cyrodil damage and player reductions, on average, my prolong suffering hits for around 800 a sec depending on the opponent. My cripple hits anyware between 1-2k dot damage a sec depending on opponent and my tool tip is over 16k. I'm running 15k spell penetration before major fracture and slightly over 3200 spell power. You must be confused. Even, if I was wearing some crazy necropetence/alchemist set combo and molag kena I couldn't see prolong suffer hitting for 3k a sec.

Revert the dodge roll nerf first then it can be removed.

@LegacyDM my prolong suffering alone is not doing that dmg. I'm saying that the combined total of prolong and my geared out lightNing staff heavy is doing that type of pressure. My prolong hits for 700-1k per tic in pvp depending on who I'm hitting and if it crits. That average of prolong plus my 2-3k per tic from lightning heavy atk is alot of pressure on those meta stams who rely on roll.
