Need setting option to never steal at all

There's too much junk around vendors where you accidentally steal because you click too fast or the mouse moves a bit. Fix this please. It's not an uncommon issue for people to end up stealing when they had no intention of doing so and then have a guard show up out of nowhere to take gold from them over what is a bad game design. If you can't grey items out so they cannot be stolen can you make it so that there is a new setting option to avoid stealing entirely but forcing several clicks to actually steal item if you don't want it. Perhaps a few warning screens with red so people who have this turned on realize they are about to steal something they did not intend to and end this game annoyance that doesn't have to even exist...

You know that you can deselect auto-loot for stolen items, right? That means every time you accidentally click E on a world object, you'll get the loot window that opens up. All the item names are red for stolen items, so there's your extra visual warning as well.

That being said, you can use the "No thank you" addon that will help prevent stealing world items unless you're croushing.

No Accidental Stealing...you have to be in sneak mode and hidden to steal.

Or Azurah - Interface Enhanced lets you tweak the UI position, also has a no accidental theft feature.

After a few mistakes I found the loot setting quite useful.

Actually i think the auto-loot for stolen only affects items in containers but still allows you to click on a red world item and get whammied.

I agree. We have an option for not attacking innocents, a similar option should be in place to prevent accidental stealing. Not all of us play theaves, some of us like roleplaying "the good guys"

I am notorious for accidental selection of quest options or deconning things I did not want to because of clicking or pressing the use button too fast. I have never accidentally stolen anything with the auto loot stolen items turned off. This is a PEBKAC issue.

of course it is... but so is attacking innocents... they put a solid protection in against attacking innoicents and a partial protection in for stealing... so one would think the idea of having a fix for the PEBCAK issues that are indeed quite similar in nature that matches them up wouldn't be so controversial.

With kill innocents on i can be fighting mudcrabs, have aguard attack the mudcrabs, have me charging an attack as the guard kills the crab and then have my attack slam the guard who goes from ally to gray as soon as the crab dies and NOW WWWHAMMO i am bounty kill on sight guy. if i press the left mouse while turning, i might fire an attack off at a civie. With it set to protect, this does not happen at all.

With stealing at any setting now, if i click as a merchant moves, i might grab a drink off his table. if i double click to close the dialog, i might steal a drink from his table.

Both can be PEBCAK, both can be caused or aggravated by external activities in the game and both IMO need the same degree of protections.

Think there would be as many duels in cities if the protect innocents was as "clik and fail" as the stealing is?

There is one guild store vendor in Elden Root who stands close to a rack of meat, and at least 50% of the times I visit I inadvertently steal the meat. So I feel your pain. I also accidentally steal a lot from a guild NPC in Stormhold. These guys really shouldn't just leave food items lying around.

You're correct, Auto-Loot doesn't affect loose items, only containers, so Auto-Loot won't help the situation in the OP.
Currently, the only solution for the OP is something like No Accidental Stealing on PC, and no solution at all currently on consoles. It would be good if ZOS implemented something like NAS in the base UI.

Haha I'm really bad for decon gear that I want to keep. What should be in the game is anything that's in your bank shouldn't show up on the workstations. So many times I've deconstructed items that have been in my bank. I get why it's there, to save time, but it's one of the main gripes i have about this game. Yeah, it's ultimately my fault for going to fast, but when you have a huge amount of gear to deconstruct it's a major pain. Add to that, most of the gear I have mistakenly deconstructed has been gear I've been waiting to research, so it looks like the junk I am deconstructing. Nor can I always remember what item traits I have kept in the bank for future research.
