In Game Zone Chat have become Ill-mannered, Repulsive, Filthy ... may I continue? TOXIC...

A new player is looking for help, admits to being <country>; when did it ever become OK for players to say "she must have a <country> fanny"; some think this is quite funny and extend the chat to more nauseating conversations.

Recently many similar conversations appear within the zone chat.
What is happening to this amazing community?

I am seeing this more often and sometimes unsure as to what to do - Toxic... Any guidance is appreciated! :-|

If this is text, right click on the players name and report them. Then put them on ignore.

If this is Voice, then start using Text. See above

Totally agree with @Nestor here. Report these players and ignore is your friend :) The zone chat has been terrible since 1T.

sadly zone chat has been like this since launch. I still remember a day when you could ask for help in a general chat and people would be kind enough to help. But times changed and the view of gamers has warped in to an ego stroking contest. I still go out of my way to assist people how ever possible, but honestly the reason games fail now days is not because of the developers but because of crappy communities.

I still help out players in zone when I have it turned on. Otherwise I'm ignoring it completely because sometimes the messages posted in my guilds get pushed up too quickly from guild ads

Saw someone making jokes about how they'd made unsolicited adult activity to someone in chat the other day, that was a reporting one. I wonder if ZOS got Interpol to pay them a visit for admitting to doing something illegal. :smirk:

End of the day OP there isn't much you can do but block those who are being jerks like Nestor said. The main thing is to never give raise or comment to them as it only makes them enjoy it, generally blanking/ignoring people and going about what you were doing is the best way to ruin their fun.

Better yet if you're the cruel type don't block them and then blank them, because they get even more mad if they find they can whisper you (no notification they're ignored) but you're not paying them any attention as if you can't see them. That might just be my cruel side though.

    It's become that? *snrk*

I think you've just encountered a troll post that dug under your skin finally, cause constantly (ESPECIALLY in the first zones after the tutorial islands) this and other baiting comments are the norm. Have a laugh once in a while, or ignore people. It's really easy :p

It's reached a point where many people cry out claiming to be treated like garbage, when in reality the statements they're up-in-arms about are mildly bothersome at worst and innocuous in general. If there's anything to lose faith in humanity over, try all of the Kickstarter scams people dump hundreds of thousands or millions into with no working prototype or proof of concept :p

Referring to society in general, not the OP. OP just has me confused, the quoted message feels like it's either translated or falls into the category above.

Maybe one thing we can all agree on (and ironic with this statement) is that no matter what you say on these forums someone will disagree and feel the need to tell you why you're an idiot and they're better than you.

I enjoy constructive debates and I will throw my opinions at people, sometimes constructively sometimes with stupid meme pictures. I always keep it polite however and generally will engage anyone who doesn't resort to using "cool kid" terms like white knights etc.

Like, if you disagree with someone have a debate, share your views, throw in some good cat pictures and understand end of the day not everyone will agree with you. As long as you do no harm to others then that should be fine.

Not really sure where I was going with all that, getting late and I had a long day...

I don't know all the options on the other servers, but on the PC EU server, disable zone chat, enable zone-English, and don't use voice chat. Peace and sanity are preserved while you can still ask for help and get it! Mind you, I'm not in any guilds either, so perhaps that also helps  !

On a wider level, the whole value of the internet is being compromised by the simple concept of anonymity. Eventually, that is something that governments will have to get together and resolve, but as one of the older players here I doubt it will be in my lifetime. I do know that before I retired I used to post on my professional forum in my own name and it made me think more than twice before I hit the "submit" button.
