To much stuff!

I am finding that there are so many armor/weapon sets in the game it's making my head spin.

I have stuff in my pack, in my bank, on chars I've created just to hold stuff.

The trouble is I have no idea what is worth keeping and what isn't. Some things are hard to get hold of and with the sheer mass of stuff it'd hard sort the little gems from the trash.

    Santie's rules of keeping stuff

If the item is white let it be out of sight
If the item is green in the bin let it be seen - or the guild store
If the item is blue then sometimes it will do
If the item it is purple ... something something snurfle .. purple is good
The item it is yellow yes - then hello!

Keep all BOP rings/weapons/jewelry from dungeon runs.

Keep clothing items with divines or impenetrable traits, keep large pieces with infused trait (head, legs, chest), keep sturdy items from tanking sets. Disard (sell/decon) all other traits.

    Keep all purple jewelry.

Discard all overland BOE sets (but keep jewelry). Other people will farm them for you and sell via guild stores. Sell BOE jewelry with bad traits (robust for magicka set for example), keep good traits (robust for stamina set)./

Deconstruct all purple gear that don't match points above, sell green/blue stuff.Don't keep monster set pieces with bad traits, decostruct them.

Deconstruct all yokudan/draugr styled pieces (chance to get style mat).

I agree, there is too much trash in this game, particularly when you start doing Dungeons, every 3 Dungeons I need to empty my Inventory (100 Items).
    Anyway few tricks I learnt:

    1) Deconstruct all the White and Green Items except for the Ornate (sell those to a vendor), and Divines (keep it for Research or sell it on the Trader, they are valued)
    2) Deconstruct all Blue/Purple items Bound to you that you don't need, you will get Blue/Purple Tempers which you can use or sell.
    3) Sell (via Guild Trader) all Unbound Blue and Purple Items you don't need and which are part of a Set, they are sought after unlike the normal Blue/Purple which are not part of a Set (Deconstruct those)
    4) Keep best Purple items for your Alts, possibly part of the same Set (for the bonus), though if you are a decent crafter, you should be able to craft Sets of armors by yourself, like I do, but if you don't have enough money to buy the Purple Tempers then that's a viable option..

Basically it is not worth Vendoring stuff (Only Ornate), you should either sell it through a Trader or turn it into materials, you should only keep the best Purple Items for your Alts, though I personally craft 100% of all my gear for my low level Alts.

If you follow those simple rules you will have a neat bank and inventory with just some Purples items, everything else it is turned into Gold or Materials.

PS: Those rules are for gear below 160cp. When you get to 160cp gear, be aware that also some Greens are valuable as they can be upgraded to Yellow, so don't Deconstruct them straight away some 160cp Greens might be worth thousands of Gold.

Yes all my chars bar 1 are cp160+ and this is part of the problem. I have no idea of the value of a lot of the stuff that drops. I only have knowledge of the item sets I have considered using with builds.

Also if I decide to change my build what do I do with my old gold/purple stuff? Decon? No way I might go back to use it.

So the stockpile continues unabated and seemingly without end to mount with the introduction of the multitude of new gear.

Yeah I get that, though to be honest you really need to keep just the best gear for each of the main builds which you can then swap between characters.
You don't need more than 6-8 Full Sets for all your characters, you don't need much room for that as you can "park" the Sets you are not using on other character Inventories.

If you think about, the Stats that really count are not that many: Mana, Mana Regen, Health, Health Regen, Stam, Stam Regen, Crits, Penetration, Resistant and Divines.
Plus you have Class specific like Healing, Stealth, Shield bonuses

There are 3 Roles in ESO Tank Healer and DPS.
Tank and DPS can have both a Stamina or Mana version.
So we are talking about 5-6 Basic Build which requires pretty standarised Armor Sets.
Of course you can add your own flavor (mainly with the Bonus of the Armor Set) but generally the Sets used for each of those roles are pretty standard with set in stones Stats requirements.
In the end the option are not that many.
You really shouldn't need more than 8 Full sets shared between all your characters, the way you diversify your characters is through Skill and Champion Points not gear, as you really need to have certain Stats in your gear, you can't play around too much.

I'm actually of the opinion that there can never be too much.

Despite my gripes about this game in the past, the one thing I loved on Day 1 was the crafting. By no means am I a player who enjoys crafting but there was a certain level of awe when I'd make myself the coolest weapon for my level.

Got to learn to let it go. You really want that burning spell weave set. You get some prosperous pants..decon them. I know it hurts but you will get better ones.
