They just launched One Tamriel. This is to be expected. If you can't handle the game with bugs don't complain when Zos actually does their jobs. I hope the Cyrodiil grouping gets fixed!

It would definitely be 'nice' that grouping is fixed in PVP but now that we have one V one me bro in PVE land it probably is not a high priority.
We can only hope the mainteneance is partly to fix this stupid bug that appeared when doors were removed on resource towers. May be there is a conection ... ;) <sarcasm>

Anytime there is maintenance that extends beyond the duration that you think that it should, it simply means that Sheogorath has gotten loose, yet again, and they are trying to track him down and stuff him back in the game. Sometimes this takes longer than planned.

2 days out of 7 is not "maintenance," it is incompetence. 2 days is 28.5% of the 7-day week. Think about all the products and services in life that, if you had to go without for nearly one third of a week, would be a downright disaster. Heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer, for example, or water services, or food deliveries to your local stores.

Now, before you jump all over me and say that ESO is a game, not something that's life or death, of course you're right. But the fundamental point is the same. We are paying for a service that we are not receiving for a significant percentage of time. Why isn't there a test system and production system like with most organizations? Do ongoing maintenance on the test system and move updates to production when ready, seamlessly. Happens all the time. Many organizations cannot afford to have any systems downtime. But this one sticks its customers with a high percentage of downtime most weeks and people blindly accept it. Go figure.

Whoah there's a whole lot of jumping to conclusions! Is it leg day? Just relax, I'm not offended by your rudeness, it speaks for itself. They just released One Tamriel and got new players as well as returning old players. They wanna protect their investment, and the money we pay them through subs and crown store, so of course they would maintenance a newly launched product

the reason there are more bugs on live then PTS is simple. more people, more strain on the server and more code mixups when the client sends information to the server. Those who think we are owed something because we pay 15 a month need to check them selves. go to a movie for 2 hours then come back and complain that 5 out of 7 days a week game play is a bad deal for 15 bucks compared to 30+ for a 2 hour movie. Most of those who are crying over maintenance have ZERO idea how a game server works, honestly it is not as simple as changing a few lines of code. there is a far greater depth to it all.

    Yep,
got 2 friends that didnt play for a while coming back yesterday,
they saw the maintenance today and he left again,
guess more will do the same when they see this "maintenance issue" is still here.

Yes, they just release One T, and yes there should have been an influx of new players and returning old players.

But if they want to play on the EU server they fall at the first hurdle - the log in screen.

Given the importance of One T, and as you say the potential to grab the interest of new players, you might have thought that they'd reflect the importance of this release in the level of testing that they did. Unfortunately that was not the case.

To compound the problem, yesterday's maintenance was supposed to solve the EU log in problem, but it did not - further indication that they aren't even testing before release.

And now we have a new update, which doesn't even attempt to address the EU log in problem (despite being told that we'd hear about their latest solution last night).

This is not the right way to go about protecting their investment.

Now, before you jump all over me and say that ESO is a game, not something that's life or death, of course you're right. But the fundamental point is the same. We are paying for a service that we are not receiving for a significant percentage of time.

But it does make a huge difference. For at least two reasons :

    - "Life or death" services are per definition needed by everyone. Those companies have a much wider customer base (thus lowering the costs/customer) than ZOS and a much larger "emergency team" than ZOS (that point being directly related to the previous one). ZOS has 250 employees (so says Wikipedia, however true that may be or still be ?) that is SMALL. That is extremely small as compared to the size of the game, the size of the playerbase, and the size of the investment related to development. If there's a rupture in electricity somewhere (in a "rich" country) you'll have dozens of people coming over to repair the service and being paid for that. That's because the electricity company has far more customers than ZOS and can afford to pay people for emergency availability. ZOS cannot afford that because they're small, relatively speaking.

    - ESO is an "artistic" service. Because they're not "life or death" issues, videogame developers create, imagine new techniques, new coding, new stuff. They take risks. Because they can afford to fail - which a medical industry or an electricity industry oor a food industry CANNOT afford. That's why evolution and progress in the IT industry, and especially in videogames, is so quick and amazing. It's because companies can afford to try and fail.

So yeah ESO being "only a game" does make a difference. That being said, ZOS looks very sloppy lately, I must give you that.

Here's a very high level description of what ZOS should be doing. Feel free to dig deeper into continuous service techniques and zero-downtime deployments if this description is too lean for you, there is plenty of information out there. But please (trying not to be frustrated and therefore disagreeable) stop telling me that I should be paying subscription fees for a service I cannot use on a regular basis when solutions to this problem have been around for a long time. ZOS choosing not to better their practices, no doubt because "that would cost money", at my expense is not something to defend.
