VMSA Magicka Sorc Stuck on Final Boss

This is my first time doing VMSA and I am on the final boss on my magicka sorcerer.

I literally cannot get it past 50%, Ive been trying for about 4 hours and I'm making no progress whatsoever.

Ive seen people overload him to 75% to avoid the guards (these are my main issue) I just cannot stay alive while blocking and interrupting the boss. I spam shields throughout the guards, I overload them and get them down, I can't even begin to say how many times I have tried this boss. I have remorphed to crushing shock to interrupt him, still eventually die...

What do I do? I have worked so hard to get here but I cannot see myself doing it any time
soon. Any help or tips?

Thanks

Also, the problem is I overload the guard then he swarms me and I can't interrupt him due to crushing shock being on my other bar and by the time I've switched I'm dead as usual!!!

When the first guard spawns you should focus it down. He shouldnt be channeling his skull attack at this moment and you Should have enuff time to overload the guard before he casts his skull knock down. Stay max range from the portal as the Guard spawns and nuke it down. When it dies be ready to block/roll.

I haven't done it too many times on my Mag-Sorc but I might have a few tips that can help you:
    • Don't rush it the first few (dozen) times as you learn it. The people you see rushing the fight and burning him have probably done it 100s of times and can know the fight really well. Take a more slow and steady approach until you can consistently beat all 3 stages of the last boss and then try things to speed it up.
    • If you can consistently beat the Crematorial Guards then you have one of the most challenging parts of the fight done. I found it easiest to get as much range before the guard spawns and then Overload them down all while keeping an eye on the boss to roll dodge/interrupt him as needed.
    • Use the Sigils! I usually start with Power right away and keep Speed for the third stage but use Defense/Healing as needed, especially if you need to jump down during the second stage.
    • There is a sweet spot for DPS in the first stage where you'll get the Guard, Caster and Clannfear attacking you all at once. If this happens you need to do more DPS (to avoid the guard spawn entirely) or less DPS as dealing with the Guard, Caster and Boss at the same time is a little easier.
    • Rune Prison can be useful to ignore the Caster, Clannfear, or Summoners for a while. This is most useful if you need to jump down in the second stage. Imprison the Clanfear, kill the Guard, and then kill the Clanfear on a portal.
    • Use a Restoration Staff on your back bar and keep Rapid Regen up 100% of the time. Use Shields as needed (I prefer Harness Magicka for the Magicka restore) but having better self-healing than just Surge/Blood Magic is useful as you learn it.
    • Practice! This last fight is by far the hardest in vMA to learn at first simply due to its extremely small margin of error...one small mistake will kill you. Once you spend the time to learn the mechanics and how to beat it, however, it will become much easier (I hesitate to say "easy"). After only a dozen completions I find stages 4/5/7 harder than the last boss now.

If you need more specific tips let us know exactly what parts of the last boss fight you are having problems with and what strategies you've tried so far.

Ideally you should never take damage from the boss though this may be difficult to do the first few times. You have to roll-dodge or block his skull attacks, especially when the Guard is up at the same time. If you are on the other side of the arena when the Guard spawns, buffed and in overload mode then you should be able to take him out just as he gets in range of you.

Ideally you also want to make sure the boss does his interuptable channel before the Guard spawns as dealing with the Guard and having to interrupt the boss is difficult on a Mag-Sorc (it takes a few seconds to exit Overload mode and hit him with Crushing Shock which is more than enough time for the Guard to burn you to a crisp). Usually this happens if you DPS the boss too much before the Guard spawns...sometimes it is easier to do a little less DPS initially especially if you don't have enough DPS to avoid the guard spawn entirely.

Also keep in mind that everything gets easier as your build does more DPS. If you have a low CP or low DPS build then everything is going to become much more difficult.

So you can get past the crystals?

What I do (only done it 8 times so still learning) is when I go down, grab the healing, defensive and power sigil then straight dps him, grabbing the first gold ghost that spawn. Don't chase it, just put yourself between it and the boss. It's usually enough to dps him before a deadroth spawn. If one does. The defensive sigil is still up so a lot of the boss' attacks reflect.

If you haven't already, put surge, shield and streak on you overload bar. So you keep surge up, cab shield easy and streak to the boss to bash. Or come out of overload and Crushing shock him once, back into overload.

Not done it on a magica sorc, but that's how I would run it if so.

If a deadroth is spawning while boss is at 50%, i'd be inclined to say your dps is a bit low. What gear are you running?

What do you mean by doing more DPS will stop the guards spawning?

In the first stage the boss teleports up when he gets to 70% and I believe the Guard spawn is a timed event. So, if you can get the boss to 70% and kill the Clanfear before the Guard spawns you don't have to deal with him at all. The Guard despawns once you kill all 3 crystals and get blown back down.

However, this requires a very high DPS build and I've never managed to even come close to doing it. You might be able to do it by grabbing the Power Sigil and Overloading the boss down but this uses a lot of Ultimate and if (when) you die you won't have enough for a second attempt. Part of what made my attempts with a Mag-Sorc difficult is that I was relying too much on Overload so when I died I had no Ultimate left. Part of that was me learning when, and when not to, use Overload and try to do most of my DPS as normal, including the Guards actually. If you can circle around them closely you seem to take a little less damage from their breath.

Also when I go onto the upper level I attack the gems, and obviously I dodge the skulls but he still knocks me back and off?! How do I avoid this?

So the various mechanics of the second stage are:
    1. Boss skull attack. Keep an eye on him and dodge roll when you see him wind up. Easy to do once you recognize it.
    2. Constant AoEs. Keep moving back and forth as you DPS a crystal. Keep DoTs on the crystals (Liquid Lightning).
    3. Constant DoT damage. You always take damage here that increases over time so keep up your self-healing (Surge, Rapid Regen) and Shields as needed. Its easy to assume that since you rarely take damage you don't need them and then all of a sudden you are under 50% health and its too late.
    4. Walls and Explosion. The explosion is what is blowing you off of the stage. To avoid this you have to get behind one of the walls that spawns and rotates clockwise around the center. I always move counter-clockwise, opposite the wall's direction as it is much easier to catch them this way than to catch up to them the way they are moving. Each time a wall spawns it moves faster. If you can't destroy all 3 crystals by the time the third wall appears it is much better to just jump down. You'll have to deal with a Guard and Clanfear on the bottom but once you go back up the walls with reset.

Got destroyed again, didn't even get to crystals this time

Just keep at it! It took me and most people 100s of attempts on the last boss before succeeding. Always try to learn something from your deaths. Why did you die and what could you have done to avoid it? While I was learning the last boss I would try it for an hour or so at a time to avoid my frustration building to hazardous levels.

Your build looks fine btw assuming you have 300 or more CPs to go along with it. You can probably complete it with less but more difficult of course. I went with x2 Molag, x5 Elegant, x3 Willpower which gets a lot more DPS in Overload mode at a slight expense of normal DPS.

You don't have enough magicka with 37k... Your shields are a bit weak and you just won't hit hard enough. Slot Bound Aegis and Inner light.

I run it like this (it hasn't changed since the first time)
    Destro bar 1:
    - Frags
    - Force Pulse
    - Endless Fury (use Hardened Ward here instead)
    - Bound Aegis
    - Inner Light
    - Overload

    Destro bar 2:
    - Liquid Lightning
    - Elemental Blockade
    - Hardened Ward (use whatever you need here, i play with the ward on back bar and execute on front)
    - Bound Aegis
    - Power Surge
    - Overload

    Overload Bar:
    - Liquid Lightning
    - Power Surge
    - Ward
    - Bound Aegis
    - Inner Light

With this setup you'll hit much harder and your shields will be way stronger.
I personally face tanked the Daedroth. I'd interrupt the boss, put down my DoTs, go into Overload and fry the CG as soon as he came out while running around him so his fire breath wouldn't hit me. Let the boss and the CG both sit in your DoTs. It will heal you to full hp all the time (power surge is really amazing now, its not nerfed) and it will help you DPS. Usually when I'd kill the Crem Guard, the DoTs would have gotten the boss down to 70%. Then take out the caster, go up stairs, overload the crystals (keep Liquid Lightning and Power Surge up all the time). You don't have to jump down after the second wall. Just focus on DPS. Run anticlockwise. You'll get to the wall before he explodes it. Tri stat pots are pretty usefull here. Then when you get down its a piece of cake

    The way I do it:

At the start, pick up the shield, burn boss.
Save a procced frag for the caster add that spawns, nuke it, pivot back to boss.
Drop a liquid lighting on boss, crem guard will spawn on him and in AOE. Burn it.
    Back on boss.

Should be at the next phase. Kill caster, kite clanfear to portal, kill.

Drop liquid lightning on closest crystal, reapply surge if it dropped, block spell, pulse+med weave+frag the crystal down.
While hiding behind the rock, execute the first crystal, pivot to others, rinse repeat.
(note: if it gets to tough for you, drop down, kill the crem guard and head back up to reset the dot)

When you drop. You should be at 1000 overload. Grab the first yellow spirit, pop overload, kill the adds, dps boss (while interrupting his channel.

When you get 3 spirits, grab damage, use spectral explosion. Kill boss.

Pretty easy that way I find.

What do I do? I have worked so hard to get here but I cannot see myself doing it any time
    soon. Any help or tips?

    Thanks

Start north (where the dmg sigil spawns). Lay down any AoE/effects where the boss is going to spawn. Then grab the sigil and BURN boss to 70% BEFORE he ports (should be easy). This way you don't have to deal with the daedroth. Go up top and throw dots on the first crystal, dodge roll boss attack. Since you're range, you can dps the crystals while moving away, or to the wall. Once you destroy all 3 IMMEDIATELY locate where the defense sigil is when you fall down. Run straight for it and grab any other sigils (until you are comfortable without). This way, the bolts are reflected back at the boss while you focus on putting on dots and most importantly getting the ghosts that spawn. Do not miss a single one. If you get the first 3, wait until the daedroth starts to spawn while damaging boss...THEN use the explosion. From there it's game over.

This is basically how I first cleared it, I haven't changed much from this other than the amount of sigils. To be honest....I have gotten to the point where the final boss feels like the easiest part of the whole thing. You just have to execute everything flawlessly.

Good luck, don't get too frustrated. Trust me, I am the type of person when I get angry at BS mechanics I play worse. You will get the hang of it I'm sure.

    Game plan-

No sigils wheb getting him to 70%. You can do this be dropping liquid lightning, boundless storm, and weaving as he stands in the middle. Anticipate his warp and interrupt, then drop another liquid.

Go into overload now, hit him until the seafront is out and then melt that thing. Be ready to Roll dodge and then nuke the healer. Return to fire staff and weave until 70%

Grab the power crystal befor you go up so you can kill the crystals in one sitting. Use liquid and boundless and weave and execute and overload of you gotta

    ---The sequence is as follows!!!!!

You arrive upstairs and then do the following while dpsing

    1.) Roll dodge skull
    2.) meet up with barrier
3.) dps on the way to and once behind it
    4.) stage is cleared
    5.) roll dodge
    6.) roll dodge
    7.) barrier
    8.) clear
    9.) 2x roll dodge again
10.) ignore the barrier and finish the last crystal

Last, grab the speed sigil and bash his channel, then collect ghosts. Kill the first batch of summoners, and try to hit him. Just stay in overload. And use the healing sigil if needed.

Last ghost comes at the same time as the cream guard, so ignore him and spectrally explode. KILL THE GUARD FIRST, SUMMONERS NEXT, abd only then dos him.

This last part repeats, so catch ghosts while burning him, only this time ignore the summoners since you will probably be able to kill him.

    Open chest.

Get worthless necklace and great fire staff

Gey stormproof title and skill point

    Never use polymorph

    Enjoy!

    All best,
    ~Turbo

    I run elegant and julianos.

Dps boss to 89% at start
    Teleports
    Crushing shock to interrupt
Immediately switch to overload to take out the guard.
    Switch back to normal dps.

I had major problems with stamina up top. Engine guardian, tri pots, and tri food saved me.

I have to chime in here... LOL

I'm a flawless magicka sorc with 34k magicka and 2.3k spell power so don't dare say this guy doesn't have enough because YOU DO.

The trick is this: I mean this follow this and you'll be fine.

julianos - elegant - skoria I've also don't it with julianos willpower and skoria.

    When you engage the boss:

Liquid lighting power overload frag proc etc.
When the boss teleports and spawns the mage grab the defense sigil and burn the add
Kill the add back to boss liquid lightning
The above is ONLY true if you run force pulse not crushing you don't want to interupt her as the bounce backs will contribute to further damage.
When she spawns d'droth power overload 3 hits dead - roll continue rotation
liquid lightning force pulse by now she should be at the mark

When you're up on the platforms as a SORC it's IMPOSSIBLE to get knocked down ( with practise ) I can survive 5, yes 5 wall phase before being unable to keep up this comes with practise

    When you finish the crystals
EDIT: The power is KEY to leave until last phase it makes this whole round a MILLION times easier.
Down - power overload with 550-700 ultimate you'll be fine grab haste, power get gold ghost and don't forget to interupt depending where the boss is.

power overload the add to the centre (key)
switch back to force pulse wait for d-droth
switch to power overload kill d-droth
    finish boss.

The key is the start which throws most, if you get the defensive sigil when she spawns the mage you watch how easy it becomes.

Lol I know 34k magicka sorc how does he do it...

    Good luck!

My new strategy- I never die this way anymore

I actually put rearming trap on my overload bad, put it in his circle, cast liquid lightning, boundless storm, surge, wall of elements, and weave + frag and he goes down faaaaaast.

He Teleports, u bash, drop liquid again, overload one light attack on him and one on the healer to proc kena and one (or two) shot the gaurd. Finish healer, roll dodge the skull, weave, part one done.

Grab power sigil, and drop liquid, woe, boundless, weave, and roll dodge the skulls. After two clears (keep wards up for the churn btw. Dark exchange and boundless are your friends. Tripots too) just overload the last crystal.

    Last part.

Get to him quick, bash, drop liquid, get speed sigil, collect ghosts, while killing the summoner and dodging voryak's crap. Grab last ghost as crematorial guard spawns, spectral explosion, kill guard, melt boss, grab defense if u want, ignore summoners, overload until it's done!

I wear kena, 5x elegant, and 3x aether
