Account-wide housing is cool, but I wonder if we'll be able to buy multiple houses in different locations. My characters probably wouldn't all choose to live in the same place.

    Xbox, NA:
Found a pack of characters with normal looking gamer tags but the character names were all just clumps of nonsense letters like UKIOHFRHCDVHG yesterday, all crouched at the rock near the skeever shadow hide farm, all looking exactly identical, all sorcs. They would cycle, one would detach from the pack run through doing AOE on the skeevers and return. When they respawned, the next would detach from the pack and do an identical route. A merchant was there to turn loot into gold.

So what can we actually do with the houses? Is it just a room/building you can decorate or do they have any practical use?

The only MMO I played with housing was Ultima Online where it was mainly a place to store/display your stuff (people would do crazy things, like arranging dyed cloth bolts and boxes to look like everything from a piano to a jacuzzi) and you could buy merchant NPCs to sell stuff to passing players. But none of that will work with instanced housing.

My only other experience of in-game housing is the single-player TES games where I mainly used it as a place to store stuff I wanted to keep but didn't want to carry around, and games like Zelda where you have a house right from the start but will probably never go back there after the game gets going.

As far as I can see these houses are basically a private instance which you can decorate. So I get the appeal for RPers and there's some novelty value for everyone else but I wouldn't expect this level of excitement from people on this forum unless there was more too it, which makes me think I'm missing something.

You could be on to something there. Comparing with what has been found already and recorded on UESP, there are three houses for each race, except Breton, Khajiit, and Dunmer, which each have four. It's quite likely those extra houses are three of the five datamined Crown Store houses, and they are most likely the Daggerfall Castle, the Ebonheart Manse, and the S'ren-ja Estate as the biggest ones. Size-wise, the Colovian Mansion near Arenthia and the Redguard Mansion at Stros M'Kai could also fall in that category, and that would make five, but there are not yet any alternative third houses in those styles.

Furthermore, except for the Colovian Imperial style, each of the races' smallest house sizes seem to be identifiable by the fact they don't have a walled garden.
I'm pretty sure that Redguard Mansion is featured in the video as "Redguard Large Home" at 5:27.

They've already indicated we will be able to craft some items, so I'll be interested to see how that's going to work. I doubt it'll be a perk for nine trait crafters but it would be nice to get something out of that.

If it were me I'd make it so more traits researched would let you make more complicated items. So, a 1-trait Clothier could make a simple rug, while a 5-trait Clothier could make an elaborate tapestry; no-trait Blacksmith can make basic cups while a 9-trait Blacksmith can construct their own miniature Orrey, that sort of thing.

"Upgrade to bigger houses with in-game gold"

This is ridiculous. There needs to be a better way for PVPers to convert AP to gold if this is the case.
I have 20k to my name and 14m AP. :'(

step 1: Buy Akaviri Motiffs with APs.
Step 2: Sell in zone Chat
    Step 3: Profit

Seriously, Akaviri stuff goes for something like 100k for the big peices. if you have 14m AP you're sitting on a few hundred thousand potential gold.

I'm afraid to watch, until we find out if they will go through with casino crates as the higher-ups have been pushing for. I am too afraid that all the cool housing stuff will be locked behind forced gambling and the whale with the biggest paycheck is the only one who gets to enjoy all it has to offer.

The only question I am really interested in at this point is "will housing be kept completely separate from the gambling boxes."

If not I may just be done.

100% this. I'm fine with some things being in the store, but not in the crates. They really are like a black cloud hovering over any potentially awesome content update from this point forward.

So you expect them to put nothing to do with houses in the brand new crates they have been working on to release.

Sorry but chances are atleast part of house supplies will end up there.

I honestly don't see how anyone can complain as they have already said people can get a house without ANY crowns.

It seems to me that they will probably end up with 3 different ways to get things for houses. Guest is through in game gold or quest, second would be direct purchase through crown store, and third would be crown crates.

And there is nothing wrong with that. People can't expect them to work on something for as long as they have been working on housing and them not try and squeeze a good chunk of money out off it.

How expensive is a large house going to be? What do you think? I'd say 1m ingame gold for a big house would be a fair price.

Wow, for gold, I will be so very happy if that comes to pass. Also, no mention of dps test dummies? Long ago they had told us that they were going to do that with housing. Will I be able to craft them? I will make a cute little mantikora to beat in the face. Really, the dps dummy is what I want most in housing. Storage is very secondary. Love the idea of crafting for housing. I wonder if that will be woodworking or it's own line.

I would not mind the idea of premium fancy houses in crown store in addition to those purchasable with gold. It is this way with mounts and I have both gold and crown varieties. It seems to work well. Perhaps race based housing for gold and daedric, ancient elf, etc housing for crowns. I agree with all of you that hate the RNG of the gambling crates and refuse to purchase them myself. Maybe they work though. I just get very sad when RNG gives me the D and often feel like I wasted my time or money. Very bad feelings. Much worse than the good when I get lucky. I guess I'm not really wired for gambling. Apparently many are.

Anyhow, looking forward to PTS and getting a look at these things. I am enjoying the one tamriel scaling and removal of alliance restrictions.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

    Maybe
    inn room: free from quest
    small house: 100k
    medium house: 350k
    big house: 1M

cash shop house: no gold required ;D

But this means that only really wealthy players could ever afford a big house (by paying in gold)
Casual players not only dont have a way to get so much gold - they have more urgent spending -for example upgrading bank to max capacity is about ~750k gold.

Couldn't agree more! If they make it so you can ONLY buy houses with in game gold those shady services are going to make sh!tload!!

ZoS needs to offer other ways of acquiring a house for those people that have not been playing for the last 2+ years so could easily drop a few million on one.

They could create a new currency like they have done with the crown store but I imagine that would p!ss off a lot of players expecting to use their hard earned (or not) gold to buy one or five.

Personally I'd rather throw money at ZoS (even if its crown store) for a house then some shady gold dealer, more money to ZoS means more future updates which I want.

From what I gather it seems that the housing system will indeed be kept separate from the casino crates, at least for the time being. This is a tremendous relief and if it remains the case with this and future core systems then my faith in ZOS, shaken by the announcement of the much hated gambling system, will be largely restored.

I am definitely looking forward to the new housing system and One Tamriel has been great for the most part.

For a big house with a dps dummy in Rawl I would drop well over 1M. I want a dps dummy in a nice roomy location. Maybe a courtyard or Dojo like thing. I would drop 5M for one if that is what it takes. Without a dummy I would not pay much at all. Storage is nice but I have storage.

I want a dps dummy and I want it in PTS as well as live as nobody can afford to gold out gear or grind for gear that your not sure of on live. You have to be able to test these things as nothing ever does what the tooltip says so all rotations and gear layouts have to be tested. I also want to be able to bring all my buddies in to experiment with buff schemes. Right now all of this takes way too long and is not near certain enough for a guy who gets maybe 3 hours a night 5 nights a week on. With a dummy the time and uncertainty would be greatly reduced and many of us could be much more competitive.

Here is an idea regarding the whole craftable dummy thing as well. Have a variety of dummies that can be crafted in the likeness of game bosses and which have the same health (before they fall over and you need to hit a reset switch) and resistances. You could even have each one, say bloodspawn for instance, require the corresponding head (for dungeons) or artifact like serpents egg tooth (for trials) to manufacture. That would be fun. A big house could have a large practice area with 3 dummies but the smaller ones smaller areas with down to only one dummy.
