Worth Coming back?

Mattlustersoldier_ESO
Hi, I was part of the Closed Beta years back, but left since I didnt feel like paying a sub plus felt like the game was Meh since I wanted Skyrim with Co-Op. Then I came back briefly when they made the sub optional plus Zenimax offered me the Base Game for half Price, but still didnt have Controller Support, "Yeah Ive been a Console gamer since 1989 you'll have to drag me kicking and screaming to use M/KB". Now that the game is three years old, I was wanting to know if its worth giving another chance?

The game has controller support and is currently in it's best iteration since launch. Every update has been a solid step in the right direction.

You can purchase the DLC through the crown store. You'll be able to get Imperial City, Orsinium, Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood in a bundle but Shadows of the Hist will need be purchased on its own

I know you said you don't like subs, but it's the better deal. You get 1500 crowns a month as well so you can save them up to buy all the DLC if you decide to stop subbing. Plus you get a craft bag with sub

@Mattlustersoldier_ESO I can't say I don't love ESO but this game is currently in it's worse state since launch and every update has contributed to that and every future update will contribute further to that if they continue to ignore real problems with the game and keep wasting resources on things like crown crates and housing. Make no mistake that eso is on a downward spiral right now that will be designed to suck every dollar out of you on the way out.

Also if you pvp exclusively or prefer it over pve I'd highly suggest staying away from eso. I love pvping in mmos and at a time I loved eso pvp but it's progressively gotten worse over the course of the past few years.

I will say that the pve is decent although it does have its problems with bugs, crashes, etc.

I've been playing since beta as well and I believe now is the best time to come back I don't think you'll regret it . The catch-up mechanic for champion points won't have you far behind for long and it's really easy to get awesome gear with numerous combinations . Combat system is far superior to other games that try to pigeonhole you into things like not being able to CC break just because you're a wizard . While there are some imbalances mostly between Magica versus stamina this game is far more skill-based then I would consider many other MMO's .

I would say YES for last update/DLC One Tamriel make ESO into the game we all want back in beta and with new dalies from both Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, and the Undaunted which you can solo and new re-designed Craglorn which have content that you solo make all worth + you dont need to worry what factions you are in now to play with friends :)

So i would say go and try it out for One Tamriel is free update for all player.

Ignore facts if you want I think we can both agree that ESO isn't a co-op version of skyrim which is what the op is looking for. It wasn't then it isn't now.

IMO One Tamriel probably the best free update ZoS ever roll so far, and it make ESO what it should be in the first place, lot of people running around, dungeon and world boss become relevant again

its much more fun now tbh

I have played since Beta, and enjoy both the PvP and PvE. I agree with the majority here, the game is at its best right now, and one Tamriel is fantastic, especially if it's PvE you're into.
they keep wasting resources on things like housing

That has always been the case in all MMO's its not the player it has always been the gear.

As for coming back @Mattlustersoldier_ESO I will say its the most perfect time. PvP balance is a bit hewn but workable a lot of the zones are reworked and more fun and finally with the massive influx of sets you can create a build you enjoy with a specific playstyle.

I came back about 3 weeks ago now, I left around the time Craglorn was released because, as you say, the game was rather 'meh' and the support was shocking.

Well, let's get one thing out of the way, the support is still shocking. IMO, this is a good game in the custody of imbeciles. But, the game is really strong now, the One Tamriel patch has breathed a new lease of life into tired old areas that were previously devoid of players. ESO is never going to be the most challenging MMO out there, but they do seem to have improved the difficulty slightly from the previous faceroll.

I am so pleased with the current state of the game that I bought a 6 month sub. Sure, I still feel that ZOS treat me like dirt despite the fact I am a paying customer, but at only 45 quid for 6 months (I think that's all it is) it's the price of a keg of beer, and being as I don't drink that is an ok deal for me ;-)

It is not - and will never be - a co-op version of Skyrim. but I do think they have made a pretty good effort of capturing the TES vibe in an MMO. The constraints and needs of an MMO will always detract from the true TES vibe, but I've been playing TES since Arena, and I think they have done OK here.

So in a nutshell, the game is still flawed, the support is still horrid, but I don't think you can go wrong dipping your toe back in the water right now.

If you have a copy of the game give it a spin, you may or may not like it.

One Tamerial may give you a little bit more of the Skyrim with friends feel, but you will discover some of the bugs and bad design in Closed Beta are still within the game.

you can even use your controller you weirdo.

I think it is yes... I was a collectors edition buyer with all the trimmings and left a few months after release. Came back about a month ago and the game is vastly improved.. I'm holding my judgement of 1 Tam for now however until its been around longer but find myself indifferent about it so far..

Oh and housing is a huge plus for this game for a ton of people including myself so dev time is/was spent well on this.

I have't had any crashes since my return but i'm still in what is considered the early game zones and haven't noticed any bugs if they are there..

On topic: Yes OP it's deffo worth coming back even if you go the free route for a couple of weeks, but subbing recommended for all the DLC and mostly for the craft bag..

This game will never be Skyrim with Co-op.

That said, it makes a decent go at trying. While I disagree with the design of this game since it's original year (God I hate how they've butchered the holy trinity their supposed to be adhereing to ever since the game was released) I think that it's much better off than it was two years ago.

If what turned you off was the exessive overworld difficulty, like me, then that's gone, allthough there are still some maddening people who want it back. The game is largely accessable, however, I would look up guides or something on builds before you even set foot in the game, because it's very easy to *** up early on because ESO gives you alot of nonchoices that really ammount to "Do you wanna succeed, or do you want to be free? Freedom gets you killed. ADHERE TO THE META, SLAVE."

I advise geting the gold edition for full retail price if you really are interested, the DLC is by far worth it, and I think that the only thing to date not worth geting is the Shadows Of the Hist dungeon pack.

Orsinium, Thieves guild, and Dark brotherhood are all very much worth your time. If you hate PVP, like I do, Imperial city is worthless, exept for the dungeons which you might not even do anyway. Shadows of the hist is the same. (Exept it's 30 *** dollars for dungeons that were never ment to be pugged, so because Zenimax decided not to call it hardcore like it is, I wasted 30 bucks. Screw you, guys.)

Finally, the crown crates. Do you hate the same *** rando boxes in every other game known to man? This game has them now. Why? Because it does. Trust me, we dont like it either. Ignore them and starve this practice, or waste money on them, yours to do with as you please.

A final word of warning. If your not a DPS, prepare to feel like your life has no meaning. This game is notoriously savage toward the tank roll, it hates it, Zenimax wants to punish you for tanking, and kill you in your sleep. They want to relegate the tank roll to something where you spend all your points, skill and attribute, to meet certain health and stamina goals and create a build that is entirely block based. The challenge, it's clear from design, inherent in tanking is resource management. If you want a tank roll with a damage rotation and reactive gameplay, TURN AROUND AND FLEE FROM THIS GAME. I have created it against the games wishes and I will never compete in the highest eschelons of content because of it.

For all it's faults, give it a go. If you dont like it, I dont think anyone can fault you for that. If you well and truely hate it for some of this conflicting design and punishment of support roles, welcome to the club. Bathroom is down the hall, to the left.

I'm sufficiently unskilled at pvp that even if I had the best gear in the game I'd still probably lose to a pvp veteran. So I wouldn't say winning at pvp is all gear and no skill.

Player housing is fun for a lot of players.

I can't say whether it would be worth coming back for the op, but for me I enjoy playing the game. Even when I'm in cyrodil getting beat up, down, and sideways trying to chip away at getting vigor. I know you pvpers say is can be done in a reasonable amount of time, but I don't generate a lot of ap when 95% of the time I'm running back to the fight.

No, it's not good to come back. Support is horrible, many get no response at all while others get canned responses that have nothing to do with their problems. There are still bugs around that have been reported in beta. New content gets smaller and smaller... Crown store is filled with stuff for real money. Gambling boxes are coming, too. They have really cool stuff, but chances are so low it's a complete ripoff. And then there is the blatant cheating and exploiting with little to no consequences.

I play just because of my guildies. But I am going back to Eve online. Even the forums there are less toxic than eso now...
