The Grind Continues On

Heard about the new Draugr motif? Came out this patch and it seems that we have another Abah's Watch motif on your hands. What I mean by that is that this new motif has an extremely low drop rate to the point that a days worth of waiting for anchors, bosses to re-spawn, and traveling, I get no drop of the many pages there are.

Now wasting a month of my gaming time for this motif wouldn't be nearly as bad for fashionesta, if crafted gear was still practical or fresh. Twice born, Hunding's, Julianos, or Night Mothers, pretty much all we got. Compared to the amount of dropped sets in the over-world and dungeons, it's nothing. It seems that crafting is all but useful for upgrading dropped gear.

With that, what is the point of grinding this old motif?

I'll never get the full use it needs to be worth all the time it takes to grind this 2 year old style. Can't we at least get some sort of motivation for this or am I just supposed to destroy all of my gear when a motif comes out for the *** and giggles? There is no party that can reasonably use this. Casuals don't want to spend 150 hours grinding this and hardcore people already have their gear made a long time ago or just use the incredibly strong dropped sets. Not to mention the fact head, shoulders, and weapons are already a pointless motif to grind as Maelstrom weapons and the two piece monster sets are BiS on nearly every build.

Please take a look at crafting in the near future or don't bother releasing new motifs. Not a whole lot of people will grind these anymore if this keeps up.

One does not need to have all the motifs, not everyone has this kind of mentality.

If some people don't want, it doesn't mean the issue is not an issue. The grind is still stupidly long as well as not very rewarding, and ZoS should seriously look into updating crafting as it is pretty much left alone to rot at this point.

I don't see a problem with ZOS putting things like this in the game, they are not 'must haves' but if you enjoy that kind of thing, you can do it. Some people like to grind and the game has to allow for as varied a clientele as possible.

I learnt all of the glass crafting motifs but only because it just happened while I was playing the game normally. I collected the pieces during normal play, bought the 'binding' potions and only ended up buying one piece I was missing. I did not stop doing everything else to get them, it really just happened that I collected a few hundred fragments as I went and had the gold to buy the binding potions.

I do agree that the new dropped gear is making most of the original craftable gear obsolete and they might want to look at doing something about it. They have introduced some new craftable gear locations in the TG and DB DLC's that are powerful, I know that one of them has a 9 trait requirement to craft. These are not available to people without the DLC, but that would be an incentive for people to part with their cash.

I see a long complaint post ... but no solutions on how you would like to see it fixed??

Like I said, they would have to make the crafting system more viable again. They are capable of making plenty of sets like they did in this update, so why don't they change the stats on the old sets to where they would be competitive with dropped sets.

Take Red Mountain and Ashen Grip as an example of set that needs it's numbers changed. From what I last remember, the Ashen crafted set (which is basically the Red Mountain set) has like 3 times less dps than Red Mountain.

Another issue is that they would have to consult their creative departments and make some of the old crafting sets more standout as they mirror a lot of dropped sets. I'm not terribly creative here, so I can't offer a spreadsheet of ideas. Maybe a set that changes one class ability to be a two parter, similar to lava lash. Idk, gonna need some skooma to help me there!

I would hope in one of the next few updates they would run a complete balance pass on all of the crafted sets to make them at least somewhat attractive compared to the plethora of new drop sets. Also, as it was pointed out on another thread, with One Tamriel, there exists an unnecessary duplication of set crafting stations across all the basic alliance zones. They could add new sets to some of those (if my calculations are correct, this would allow for potentially 30 new crafted sets if they used them all). They wouldn't have to do it all at once, maybe 3-4 per update.

As to the motif grind, I gave up on keeping up with that long ago, mainly because I have my main equipment crafters spread across 3 characters (made this decision early on after release when I was concerned about having enough skill points to use for each char). Accumulating the necessary motifs is too much of a hassle. I do work to acquire specific motifs if I like its appearance of, but otherwise don't worry about it too much. I'd much rather they work to add new crafted sets each patch rather than motifs - I'm getting overwhelmed with the number we currently have in game.
