What do I do if I've stopped enjoying the game?

My advice would be to play a different game then come back. Sadly, unless you play cookie cutter your build won't be as good as your opponents but you know what? Who cares! I played a pet sorc until I got bored of it and up until that happened I destroyed the cookie cutter players. Talent can make up for most imaginable gaps.

So yeah, when I was feeling down I played Morrowind for a week or so then came back, or Civilization. Also, sometimes when I get bored I just pick a direction and adventure, making sure to use that first person camera for fighting. The game feels better in first person.

This is a really supportive thread - I'm quite impressed by the community!

I'll echo the overwhelming sentiment, don't play a game as though it is a chore.

Either decide to do something really random or new in the game, e.g. join a new guild just for pvp if that's not been something you've tried before.

Or try another game, I lost interest and played other things, then I picked up Skyrim again and had to come back.

    Have fun.

Sounds like it's time for a break.

You might need a break from just ESO, you might need a break from all MMOs.

I suggest playing something non-MMO for a while unless there's a game out there that you are just itching to try.

Plenty of good single player games out to keep your interest.

I've allways had a inner struggle, of late. It came briefly back with thieves guild when I realized I didn't like raiding as it was back then and it's come back with me hating the new shadow of the hist dungeons.

I've never enjoyed meta builds, and I do not want to sacrifice my creativity to succeed at this game. This has left me with few options. I've been happy to stay down at dungeon level, playing content I can run my off the wall builds on but it looks like I'm being edged out.

After PVPing and failing miseribly I did something I never thought I'd ever do again. I booted up guild wars 2. I played for a little bit, and it was some of the most fun I've ever had.

...This made me cry. I love the elder scrolls universe. Back when I got into the game so long ago I did it because I love the elder scrolls, but left because the difficulty and very odd game design drove me off. I came back with the release of Tamriel unlimited.

Am I just losing touch with this game? Is it time to move on?

u dont need a meta build to be good in this game ... ive never followed the meta i do my own thing and im good at it ....

ive had raid leaders cus me out because i wont switch my build up ... and i respond with "when u pay for my subscription ill play your way" funnily enough they have never kicked me out of thier trial group so i can only guess im good enough

as for the losing touch of the game i feel you been there done that ill often spend a week playing other mmos but always return, this game as something they dont but i cant put my finger on what that is yet,

i do think the game is going way to casual at one of the spectrum making the content super easy but then there is the other end where its just so damn frustrating id love to see a middle ground added .... for example dsa normal 100% soloable dsa vet well yeah thats tuff why is there no middle ground

I highly advise taking a break, and only logging in to do maybe mount upgrades and writs (if you do them daily). There are numerous games out and about that are an absolute blast to play. Whether it be multiplayer or singleplayer. MMO or other genre. To be honest, I hardly play ESO as much as I used to. And since I've received my Maelstrom's Ice Staff, I've invested even less time into the game.

Here, I'll list a few games that I think you should try out. Some of these you may have already spent some time playing, and others maybe completely new to you. But, here are the games that I've been playing that are pulling me away more and more from this community and game: Smash Bros. Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, GTA:V, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Skyrim (can't wait for the remake on next-gen consoles), Driveclub, Project Cars, Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, Bloodbourne, and Mass Effect Trilogy. There are a lot of other games I play as well, but those in particular have been getting the vast majority of my time.

It's super refreshing to play games that don't have bugs and numerous issues and or problems everywhere you look, and in a sense draws you back into gaming a lot (if ESO has in a sense made you dislike gaming and gaming communities overall).

    Edit:
OMG! I forgot to mention Xenosaga! Damn, I feel stupid for forgetting about Xenosaga. But yes, if you're into JRPG's, PLEASE look into this game. It's a classic, and a game that was way ahead of its time. Once I beat Episode 2 (whenever that is), I'm moving on to Zone of the Enders. Another JRPG that is an absolute "must-buy".
