Or instead of basing an assumption on your glass being half-empty, you could regard it as half-full and assume that the initial maintenance is either the routine stuff they do most weeks to ensure that the servers are in good shape for the major update on Wednesday (something many developers do before adding a major update), or top up the glass a bit more and assume that they're anticipating additional players after One Tamriel launches and are therefore using Monday's maintenance to switch in additional hardware - up-sizing as opposed to down-sizing.

The short answer is that we don't know  !

Agreed! Thank you @Tandor for this voice of reason.
Have any of you looked at the patch notes for Tamriel One? Seen how many pages of changes are coming? They are re-writing TON'S of coding. Every corner of Tamriel is going to be affected. Watch the "Tavern Discussion in Germany" vids and they told us what a bold undertaking OT will be. Coding in new gear (46 new sets), changing Alliance borders, pledge and dungeon changes, etc. The Monday maintenance is probably to prepare for Wed Up-Date.
I am not a game developer. I am not a programmer or coder. But, I know people who are. Server maintenance is necessary.
They could fore go Monday maintenance, drop Up-Date 12 Wed, and TOTALY break the game for days, or we can thank Zos for preparing for the biggest and most in depth changes the game has seen to date.
    There! My two Reman's...

Considering the amount of change in the 1T patch, I think we'll be lucky if that's all the maintenence they do. The chances of a support team as incompetent as ZOS' cleanly landing a patch the size of 1T, are near zero IMO.

16 hrs in less than a week. Awesome.

Mandatory maintenence + one Tamriel = beginning of zos down sizing operation (which is what this is all about) no data centre in the developed world goes offline for maintenence without any form on continuity as much as zos....esp without any form of improvement.

You're silly. ESO is not in Maintenance Mode nor are they down sizing. They are actually hiring lots more people. There are going to be many great things coming to ESO and people that posts things like this are just misinformed and uneducated on the facts of where we stand with ESO.

These maintenance's we are experiencing are required for growth and development, not downsizing.

Still not perfect, but very noticeable.

As to the maintenance, I assume that One Tamriel "merging" the three alliances in PvE zones implies some stuff being wired differently. I'm not techie in those things though :-)

No. Every time I cap a keep it boots me to home screen before the ap tick. I can still crit rush people and land in a loading screen. No Cyro is still crap.

I dont think this as as common as an issue as people make it sound.
I don't know anyone that it's happened to and it's certainly never happened to me but maybe I play at different times than you when it might be less laggy.

Dude, Cyrodiil is 100% cheeks in regards to performance. It still feels horrible, and the lag and inconsistency of skills reliabily working still exists to this very day. As @DRXHarbinger mentioned, gap-closers are STILL broken. Bruh, it's October of 2016. Meanwhile you can still gap-close into a loading screen, and or across the map? WTF? It's ridiculous. And if you're curious about that, I have videos on top of videos of me gap-closing into some bs. In fact, last week or the week before that I uploaded a thread and video of me gap-closing from Faregyl to Aleswell. I still don't even understand how I managed to do that. ESO is going down the drain, and at an alarming rate. Or as @Rohamad_Ali loves to put it, "ESO is vomiting its guts out regularly." :D

Well, I feel for you folks on console. On PC, yes we have some lag and such sometimes, but the performance in Cyrodiil on PC/NA has improved greatly. No, ESO is defiantly not going down the drain.

It's cool the dev tracker is updated, but why not just say what they are up to? Downtime is Downtime I get that, it has to happen but ESO has alot of it, maybe challenges with their vendor / provider SLA's / contracts, or maybe just fixing a load of stuff that's very difficult but either way why not admit it, and the reasons.

I.e. We have had extra downtime due to this / that, and bring some good feeling back. Otherwise all I fear is that downtime will increase as the game ages and become less profitable for them surely we are at peak population on Console now, and the motivation to make things better will only decrease as we pass peak.

Again I'm not moaning about Downtime, its needed, I work in IT and get it. BUT why not some open and honnest comms about it all..and a continual service improvement plan

The game will be back eventually, and I doubt they take the servers down unless they really need to. I agree this game has it's issues, but most games these days do, I think it might be the scale of them, maybe? Then again, the only times I really have problems is with lag on sat/sun. I could be left playing a game I don't want to be playing, so I'm just glad that ESO exists and it will be there for me to play at some point; I never want to go back to playing FFXIV again.

Khajiit she recalls reading somewhere that this was work at the datacentre itself. Something that had to be done. Probably something largely out of the control of the ZOS.

Khajiit has not read anything anywhere that the downtime might have been caused by a sugar happy khajiit trying to see if the redguard dance is possible in a confined space with many many brightly coloured wires.

Actually I noticed a huge improvement in lag reduction since last maintenance. In cyrodiil, trials, vet dungeons and other heavy pop areas. Keep up the good work ZOS!
