Need tips for Breton Templar!

AGermanGuy
Hi guys! I already played a little bit ESO as a Breton Sorcerer with Heavy Armor, but I figured thats not really good and I also dont really enjoy the class that much. I am now thinking about doing a Templar, but cant decide if I should go Healer or DPS (We already have a tank in the group). I am also a big noob and very new to ESO so I apreciate any tips you can give me, especially regarding Armor choices and Weapon choices!

Templar healer - drop a house down, throw some spears/orbs around, REPENT EVIL DOERS, Breathe of life occassionally, say a prayer here and there.

Templar DPS - Jabs, followed by jabs, little more jabs, and a jabs for good measure. Throw in a radient destruction whenever you feel like cheesing the game even more :D

Edit: looks like my actually useful advice got deleted. (Damn phone)

Anywho, healing in ESO is more than just healing. You are also tasked with helping managing your teammates' resources. Templar has the most tools to do this with Repentance and Shards to restore stamina. With either Destruction staff or Restoration staff (healers typically use both) they can return magic thru the use of weakness to elements and force siphon, skills found in each staff, as well as necrotic orb from the Undaunted skill line. Breathe of Life is your "oh sh**" when someone's health drops to dangerous levels. You'll also want to try keeping combat prayer (resto staff ability) that helps boost up DPS and offers some healing and defensive buffs as well.

I'm not overly familiar with DPSing on a templar but it does involve a lot of jabbing and radient destruction from what I've seen.

Can you maybe explain a little bit more? What armor, what weapons? Etc.

I am not sure what weapons to take. My friends recommended Restoration staff and 2 Handed Sword because it enables me to do more damage and uses stamina.

EDIT: Also, I was thinking about going 5 LA and 2 HA. Is that good?

On my magicka Templar for pve, I typically use destro/resto (I'm still getting used to the whole running super low recovery thing as a dps build)
    I run a 5light/1medium/1heavy armor setup
Destro bar has Punc. Sweeps, radiant oppression, vampires bane(most people take the other morph), elemental blockade, inner light and Ice comet as an ult

Resto bar is rearming trap, rune focus, harness magicka, blazing spear, inner light, and Solar prison as ult

You could go destro/destro or destro/dual wield as a dps build, especially if you have a good group, or run Dw/resto if you don't have maelstrom weapons and have trouble maintaining resources

Also.. Running 5 light and 2 heavy can help if you feel too squishy in 7 light.. Depends if you have rank 9 undaunted or not

Also, should I go full Magicka in Character Skills?

I am now also thinking to go DW for DPS and Resto for heal
  • OurRun_DMC
    Yeah, full points into magicka

Dw/resto is good, just play with the skills for your bars to where it's comfortable for you

Snap except I have Radiant not Lightweight trap.
    Skoria is a must though.

Heavy armor has some uses in PvP, but not in PvE on magicka DD or healer builds. It simply does not have the damage and sustain passives. I usually level all armor types in any case, to spec the main type for that build as I level, and spec some of the passives from the other styles later, after I level Undaunted and start actually wearing end game armor pieces of different types for better stats (undaunted mettle). But leveling in heavy armor is a pain, makes it hard to kill stuff.

In principle on all magicka builds:
    - you should go full magicka for maximum damage and healing - spells scale of your maximum magicka and spell damage
    - level you class skill lines and morph everything the way you think it's more effective, leave passives last (same goes for every skill listed below)
    - level light armor by wearing at least 5 pieces for the maximum bonuses (but as I said mix 1 heavy and 1 medium as you level to level those types too)
    - level restoration and destruction staff lines
    - level mages guild by reading the lore books (daily missions are coming with one tamriel)
    - level fighters guild by killing undead, daedra and werewolves and clearing dolmens - only take one skill, trap, and morph it to rearming trap for minor force bonus (useful for magicka builds too), also take 3/3 in the passive banish the wicked that gives you ultimate for every of the said mobs killed.
    - later level 2W, but don't spec skills or passives until you reach 50 (maximum) in that skill line; then only spec 2/2 in the last passive, twin blade and blunt, and use 2 swords while casting spells for maximum damage (other weapon types won't work, see the passive tool tip). You only need to wield swords, but you can fill your bar with class & mages guild skills, the skill line will advance this way without needing to unlock the useless skills.
    - optionally level 1H&S skill line, same as above and spec the passives for blocking damage if you have enough points
    - level alchemy by crafting potions and take 3/3 medicinal use that gives you more duration for potion buffs
    - level undaunted by doing group dungeons and daily pleges, take the 5th skill (orbs) and the passives; you can also unlock the 1st one, altar, but that's not very effective
    - level Alliance War skills, and fully spec in Support skill line, and from the Assault line only take the passives, the magicka detonation, and the ultimate, War Horn, morph it to Aggressive War Horn

That's a pretty complete magicka build, but will take a few hundred hours to reach all those. Take them in order.

So go with DW for maximum damage, okay. And on the second bar? What weapon there? Resto or Destro staff?

Templar has resto class spells. You can put destro on backbar.
