I just hit CP50 on a mag sorc, and started running normal dungeons. I've been keeping the tank pet out, with the healing morph so I can use it to self-heal. It also sometimes helps intercept aggro.
But I'm thinking that I would get more DPS by using that slot for something else. Do sorcs usually run pets in dungeons?
God please do not run clanfear in group dungeons! It's taunt can mess with the tank holding aggro on the boss and potentially cause a wipe.
To answer your question though: yes, pets are generally considered poor for dps. I recommend looking up some end game sorc builds.
PC NA AD
Gamma Fyr: Dunmer Sorcerer Stamina DPS (the Missing Sister...props to those who get the reference)
Samekh Fyr: Dunmer Nightblade Magicka DPS
Claire Le'Rouge: Breton Templar Heal/Tank (the Resplendent Bastion)
Augustus Constantine: Imperial Nightblade PvP (Blackwater Bandit)
Shadow-of-Sundered-Star: Altmer Dragonknight Lowbie
Yeah, I noticed that last night. We were supposed to run past a bunch of mobs, but the pet kept aggroing them. I had to dismiss it for us to get through. That's what made me think the pet was a bad idea in dungeons.
I use a different Bar for Group Dungeons than I do for solo instances. So, if you like Pets otherwise, just set your Bar up for Group events, then go back to the Pet Bar for other content.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

As a tank I've personally not had issues with sorcs running pets. Generally they end up off tanking an add, anything important I'm taunting regularly anyways.

Typically yeah, but the familiar (for some reason) loves bosses. And there are dungeons where you need to move the boss into a certain place, familiar loves to mess that right up.
