Apparently the word 'Wolf' is an insult

My friend had to change his @ name for having the word wolf and Jew in the name. They said that because wolves are a predatory animal it is wrong to use it in the same word/name as the word Jew. His reasoning behind his name was simply:
1. He liked wolves
2. He is Jewish
The exact quote reads, "The word "wolf" can mean ferocious, cruel, aggressive, or violent. Wolf can also be used as a verb to describe 'greedy consumption'". Along with this they said in the email back to him, "The use of the religious member 'Jew' in combination with wolf, a well known predator of the wild, can be seen as derogatory, defamatory, and/or offensive to others."-ZOS Customer Support
To wrap it up he has been playing since the launch of the game and it has never been a problem until now.

Maybe the GM liked molesting wolves or something and felt hurt? That's the only logical explanation.

Well it's probably not the smartest thing to contest it in the public forum. Shameful all the same that someone would be offended by that.

..We all know The Bear Jew is running around somewhere in ESO.

I once had to change one of my character names for being too similar to a lore name about halfway to vet rank. So.. this doesn't surprise me.

When I asked to see where this was in the TOS I was sent a copy of it with a few words highlighted in scattered sections throughout the entire body of it that was supposed to clarify/justify it but...

I'd just change the translation of Wolf or Jew. That would make it not "derogatory", somehow.

IMO wolves are badass. Not derogatory at all. Sounds like a cool user name to me, and I'm really struggling to see how anyone would have a problem with it.

But yeah, posting about it here won't do anything but get the thread closed.

The meaning of "wolf" as a verb is greedy consumption of food! "I wolfed down that sandwich." Vastly different from what ZOS Customer Support is suggesting, which the suggestion itself is far more offensive.

And the word wolf can also mean strength, teamwork, protective or family.

Jew is commonly used as a derogatory slang for the Jewish. I can see that as their main reasoning.

I can say that attempting keep the name by simply changing or rearranging some letters or synonyms will still result in a suspension.

I've disagreed with their hammer on what qualifies as inappropriate but to no avail.

FYI; you cannot use the word vag even though it is a shortened form of correct name AND taught and used in elementary school Human Growth class. This argument got me nowhere.

Sometimes it feels hard to come up with a creative name that isn't offensive in at least a far flung sense.

Wow that's reaching pretty hard to find that offensive. I've seen plenty of straight up belligerent names in the game that should never have been allowed, yet this gets reported? Pretty sad.

Someone undoubtedly complained. It's not exactly an outrageous thing to complain about, honestly. If I, scion of the McAllisters, encountered a player named ScotsmanSheepLover I might think he was making fun of Scots, not that he was a Scottish person who adored cute, cuddly sheep.

wolves are a strong noble intelligent animal, ive seen this kind of thing before in other games when some precious flower gets their feeling hurt, ive seen someone have a forced name change from Darkmessiah which fit well law wise in another game to his character but again some poor little precious flower got their feeling hurt and got all pouty and reported it as offensive, people like this need to get their priorities straight and find something proper to complain about.

All I can think is that they see it as a jab, calling them predators. They are very afraid of anything being taken the wrong way, so they err on the side of caution apparently.
