Leveling CP with main and guild quests on alt chars.

Hi,
I've leveled an alt on my account to lvl 40 without doing any of the main or guild quests ( fighters, mages).
Is it beneficial to keep leveling to 50 with normal quests/grind and then do the main quests and will it go towards my Champion points?
The idea behind it is that, I know those quests yield a lot of exp, so it could be better to save them for past lvl 50.
Does anyone have thoughts on this?
