Bring back 'The Road Ahead' to prevent such disasters as the infamous Crown Crates.

To quote myself on a comment I made on another thread. TLDR; Bring back 'The Road Ahead' with more of an emphasis of what's in store for ESO, potentially at the concept stages to help avoid a disaster as stated in the poll. promoting more community/dev open discussion during potential development going forward to make sure the content is best suited and at a high quality in time for its potential production/ distribution.

'This whole Crown Crate fiasco is as good a reason to bring back a more community/developer relationship via 'The Road Ahead' as any. ZOS are clutching at straws every time they surprise the community with their next instalment of content and sadly only ever drawing the short straws.

If the community had more insightful knowledge of the Crown Crates whilst it was at its conception then you would have seen how the majority feel about it and therefore not wasted and yes wasted so much in its development and implementation to the point you have no option, but to force it through and therefore dissatisfy the majority of your loyal customers.

The original pitch was along the lines of being able to potentially bag yourself a past limited item for a discounted price at a gamble and has now escalated to making content/cosmetics solely for the Crown Crates and now playing with the idea of implementing unique recipes for crafters also... All things nobody wanted or wants.

The majority of disgruntled customers accepted the Crown Store itself after a time and the current system of 'Sell this Buy this' for XYZ is a reliable and successful system. Real life applications should tell you that this is more successful method than 'Sell this Buy this (maybe)'

It feels so painful to watch a company shoot themselves in the foot like this and shows the company's disillusionment with the community. If you take anything away from this whole Crown Crates Facade (once the lambs of the slaughter have subsided) it is that bringing back 'The Road Ahead' would be advantageous to you in making your concepts aware to the community to decide whether or not you should pursue them or go back the drawing board. THAT would be a more so effective use of your 'Hard Data' (Suggesting that 'The Road Ahead' be more engaging and open for discussion than has been in the past).

ZOS are pushing out content so fast which to be honest imo is not at a quality to warrant its worth. The time we get to test on PTS is so limited and INCREDIBLY RESTRICTIVE where half the actual possible testing is way too short, to the point half the time is spent scratching our heads at multiple changes and making cases as to its reversal and amendments that takes another week to be implemented thus causing a vicious cycle that eats away at all the time.

Knowing at least what your plans were and knowing it is something desired and not (ironically as these Crown Crates are) a premeditated gamble on the ongoing success of your business, would make it a lot easier for all involved and would benefit the PTS for everyone testing since we the community will have a general idea of what to expect and therefore what to look for and how we feel about it as well as having forms of open discussion with the developers in making our concerns at least aware ahead of time.'

I would just like to see the Road ahead for that reason the Road Ahead, I think this community needs a morale boost from time to time, you can see it in the threads people post, and talking about up and coming things and giving us something to look forward.

After dinking around with the crown crates on pts, they are a non issue for me, I don't care about them since they are 99.9% fluff, and will not alter the meta of the game. Plus they are money makers, and I see it as another step toward going f2p, and that concerns me more.

I do not think any amount of outcry over the crown crates would have swayed their decision to put them in game, this is a for profit company looking to make profit, I am not a fan of the crates but it what it is, when it comes to making the money companies will do what they think they need to do to make more, and they are deaf to anything we have to say.

I do wish they would have at least one real expansion these little dlc's are hardly worth the money and the small amount of content is just to small.

I voted No, because who cares? It is not going to make me suddenly like his ideas that I disagree with.

If they just stayed subscription based they would have made enough money to keep this game going with great content updates like Craglorn. Instead turning F2P and catering the casuals with these microtransactions has really taken away any credibility this game had.

Too much time spent on making new crown store crap and not enough fixing bugs and issues with the game.

@kevlarto_ESO I agree with you and it is not the content of the crown crates that bothers me personally, although I understand others outlook on it all, given game is also an RPG restricting items to Crown Crates can be disappointing for them, but for me the problem is the mentality. Future content is a morale booster for sure which The Road Ahead always did, including the sneak peeks we have had in past for content also, but I speak more so for long term, as everything has been short term for a while now in terms of community engagement. Active communication would help a lot in morale also.

For example Housing is something people are incredibly hyped about as seen on forums and in game and since its announcements, but what I would suggest with a means of open communication would be to give the devs some insight into peoples concerns which can be seen on forums already and then address them with milestones and following feedback or why they thought otherwise and progress so far. If housing were to come next week and everyone suddenly found fundamental housing related item in crown crates and heavily crown related people would be disheartened and devs would have little time to accommodate this if at all as you said falls on deaf ears. A successful business especially a profit orientated one as most to all businesses should be pro active with such, given that more satisfaction from customers equates to more profit.

@lordrichter Alot of people care and should the devs decide not to agree and show no interest then that is a missed opportunity imo and why I make this poll. At least with The Road Ahead reinstated there would be more time to at least ponder on changes from early responses from the forums and milestones would help see if they are going in the right direction or not etc.

I concur that having Road Ahead articles wouldn't have changed the direction ZOS wants to take the game in; at best, we'd just have heard about it sooner. However given how often we've had to pry information out of obscure Reddit threads or watch fan recordings of things that logically should have been released by ZOS on the forums, I think it would be a good idea regardless.

The problem is with most people, and most businesses there is no such thing as making enough money.

Well, that begs the question: Do they care?

I mean, sure, they listen to the little things, but when it comes to something big, like Crown Crates, they don't. They will implement housing because people asked, but it was likely on the White Board before anyone asked. They will implement it with maximization of Crown revenue in mind. Player requests will determine the extent of Crown Store involvement. People who fawn over specific housing ideas will find those things behind a paywall. It is not like they are going to decide they went too far with the paywall. They will do something to make people feel better about the paywall, like with the Gem conversion.

people and businesses wanting to maximize their gains a problem?

i voted 'other' because of the strident nature of the wording of the yes vote.

would the 'road ahead' thing have prevented crown crates? i doubt it.

Communication is good . Asking for feedback is good . Never using positive feedback is bad . For a long time they have listened to our thoughts but never changed course because of them . Vet levels are a perfect example . We said they were a bad idea and just increased the useless grind but it took two years for them to agree and finally get rid of them .
