Uses: SIEGE WEAPON SHIELD, Alliance War Skills, in PvE?

I usually play solo PvE and hardly ever play PvP. Nevertheless, I have recently been experimenting with S.W. SHIELD in PvE.

I always assumed (from the tool-tip) that this skill only had uses in PvP, against siege weapons such as Trebuchets, Catapults etc. Perhaps it is my imagination but I seem to be getting some extra protection from mobs in PvE dungeons.
  1. Can someone please tell me whether S.W. SHIELD does actually work against enemies in PvE - or is it my imagination?
  2. If it does work in PvE, to what extent does it work ie, does it give the full 35% and 90% benefits as described in the tool-tip?
I look forward to your replies.

This has been stated already, and I offer my opinion here only to supplement. I encourage sharing any evidence to the contrary, however, as I personally would be very interested in the discovery of any nuances in a pve setting for its application.

As far as I know, there is no skill or weapon attack (including light and heavy basic attacks) that is reduced by Siege Shield in a pve setting. Much like is described by the OP, there is no siege in pve. To my knowledge, its only practical use in pve is to extend the reach of party members' attacks with the Propelling morph.

I shall double check which morph I have been experimenting with. The above reason could be what is appearing to make mobs easier to handle. The test character is a V160 Magicka Sorc, using destro on main bar and duel wield on the back bar. She never leaves home without her faithful Clannfear by her side. Everything in Old Orsinium was falling like 10-pins!

Prop shield has 2 benefits in PvE:

    1- Extra range
2- 5-10% Extra magicka regen (through the passive magicka aid).

Good call; I forgot about that passive benefit. Regen is just for the caster, though, correct? Still, better than nothing!

Thanks Xvorg. This is all starting to make sense for me now. Do you know if the magicka regen is stackable?

In solo play, I am the caster - it's not Clannfear. If it keeps us both alive, then it's good enough for me. Hunky dory in fact!

And as Autolycus mentioned, it is stackable. You can combine it with purge/guard to get another 10% extra regen.

Even reviving barrier is an option if you go with pets since anytime the shield expires, you get extra ulti and magicka

It only protects against siege (if it is protecting fr9m other stuff, that is a bug). However, propelling shield DOES add range to your attacks, and is used in some high end raiding situations for extra reach.

Sorry @johnbagnoli and @CasNation but your answers do not take me much further.

I am fairly certain it does something beneficial to play in PvE but I am not sure what! Perhaps it is a bug but so far CasNation, you are only speculating that it is. I would welcome an unequivocal answer, either way. If it is a bug, then the next part becomes irrelevant.

My point 2 was rather poorly phrased. The gist of what I wanted to know is how do 'siege weapons' translate into PvE (if the phenomenon is not in my imagination) because there are no such weapons in PvE? Is the shield's benefit only gained against NPCs that wield a weapon of some description (staffs included) or does it work against spells as well?

    Thank-you both for responding

If you have some evidence of the ability being beneficial ( aka, reducing damage from certain weapons) I encourage you to go out and test it yourself against likely candidates.

I know of no examples in PvE where using siege shield would provide a defensive bonus. There are no siege weapons in PvE, as you stated, so the ability has no benefit in that regard in PvE. That is all there is to it.

Again, if you have any hard evidence to the contrary, please present it. However, to the best of my knowledge, there are no pve situations where the ability provides a defensive bonus.

This is opening up a whole new world to me. One I have dared not enter much. There I am, picking up a pretty flower and the next moment I am dead! I am only rank 2 or 3 in PvP, so I will need to work on ascending a few ranks, to get those skills and passives.

What about the catapults in Hel Ra? I wonder if those count as siege.
