Stamina Recovery - Redguard vs Wood Elf

Hey, quick question for the community.

I was under the impression that the Redguard was the best stamina recovery in the game... but then I just looked at the wood elf passive of 21% Stamina recovery and nearly choked. Redguards get 9%.

Obiously the Redguard gets max stamina of 10% vs the woodelf at 6%, and get some stamina back from weapon attacks... however, 9% vs 21%? thats a huge difference. Can anyone comment on why I hear people (even Deltia) state that Redguards have the best stamina recovery in the game, if the Wood Elf has 12% more?

Cheers :)

It's the 3rd Passive, Adrenaline Rush that Redguards have. It grants them a higher true recovery.

This is true when youre in combat dealing dmg. Bosmer is better when trying to escape and youre not doing dmg. That being said, the % added to any stat stopped being multiplicative and is now instead being additive (i think it was like that) so the regen you get from the bosmer passive was slightly indirectly nerfed, so was all races rly, but the bosmer racial was huge 21% so it was noticeable.

That being said, personally I would go redguard over bosmer, but everyone plays their own way and I actually prefer imperial over both those races as my stam nb.

Also Redguard's max stat passive gives you weapon damage aswell. Remember, every 10 stamina is equal to 1 damage.

I have two Redguards and Two Bosmer.

The Redguards are better in sustained Meelee, no question about it. For example, in dungeons with large mobs and bosses with no breaks my Bosmers often run low on Stamina.

The Bosmer are better when you have a long series of short combats and short travel in between (such as in common group grinding techniques). Or if you sneak any amount as part of you play style Bosmer is better (For example in DB, TG and sometimes IC DLC's).

Basically if you like being "in the thick of it" up close and personal combat "toe to toe" for sustained periods, such as a tank or heavy melee DPS go Redguard.

If you like the "sneak and peek" hit and run, high mobility guerilla fighter play style go Bosmer.

Deltia's play style is more the first type. For a play style that is more the second type check out SpeezTV.

I changed my bosmer stamblade to a redguard, simply out of curiosity. And yes, my regeneration is down, but due to Adrenaline Rush passive, sustaining stamina is much easier if you keep weaving light/heavy attacks with skills.
Bosmer benefits more in a defensive situation where you don't fight, but have to reposition, rolldodge etc and obviously attacks from stealth are bigger, but redguards are better for "in-your-face" builds. Both have their benefits and uses, it all depends on the situation where each shines best. E.G. Bosmer - Hit and Run, Redguard - prolonged melee combat.

I tried to do some math using Asayre's equations but there were too many unknowns and the number of assumptions that had to be made was just unsettling. The whole thing is too disorganized to post; multivariate functions will do that...

What I can say is, using a few test cases, bosmer regen was 70-100 points higher than redguard outside of combat, but in a situation where a melee attack could be made every 6 seconds (within 1 second of cooldown lapse) redguard effective regen jumped at least 300 points. What this means to me is redguard sustain is significantly better in PvE content: a controlled environment where you can engage with full resources and be in melee combat the entire fight.

In a PvP situation where you might double your base regen that in-combat redguard regen is a little less than half as effective as before, but may extend your fight by a few seconds. Realistically, bosmer regen will never be better than a similar redguard's mid-combat regen though bosmer have JUST enough passive stamina regen to differentiate themselves from redguards. (Which sounds strange because 21% looks huge)

I have a redguard StamDK, and redguard StamTemplar. And trust me when I say, I never run out of stamina (unless if I'm being incredibly foolish and reckless). They do indeed have superior stamina recovery over wood elves, and this is due to the Adrenaline Rush passive. Definitely the way to go for a stamina character, in my opinion.

As others have probably said, redguard has best recovery when mele, wood elf for when at ranged, but redguard also has more max stam.

    The 21% vs 9% is pretty misleading in terms of combat regen;
For ex, a typical endgame stammp dd has no regen gear, glyphs or mundus, i cant recall the base stam recovery without racials applied but i imagine its around 500ish
    21% of 500 is approx 100
    9% of 500 is approx 50
Multiplier bonuses only make a big improvement if the base number is higher,
If you geared with regen sets, mundus and glyphs and the base numbers were both 2000 for instance
    Then 21% of 2000 is approx 400
9% of 2000 is approx 200 a more noticeable difference.
Its the adrenaline rush passive and max stam stat that make redguard shine in real melee combat

I'v not been playing long, maybe 4 months, I know its not Wood Elf but just thought I would share my experience concerning Redguard.

My first character was a khajiit Stamblade, which I got used to fast and as far as I was concerned did 'ok'. i do a lot of soloing end game content so my experience is from the class playing alone with no 'outside' buffs etc so it all relies on the class.

I recently rolled a Redguard Stamplar and to be honest leveling and soloing 4 mans, silver pledges etc was far far easier I never have resource issues, while My NB was a full on 'burst' build if things did not die within the first minute it was out of stam. unless I really managed my stam usage closely and use pots.

After my experience with the Redguard Stamplar yesterday I race changed my NB from khajiit to Redguard just to see if there really was such a big difference in resource regen between the class's and after a day playing I can say WOW what a difference, using the same gear, same build and same skills on bars my NB is completely different, yes, burst damage is down, only slightly but it never drops below 70% stam . overall damage is higher because I always have abilities to use and have no worries about resource management.

Redguard is strong because Adrenaline Rush is percentage based.

This gives them a unique ability to maximize damage and at the same time improve sustain.

The larger your stamina pool, the larger amount of stamina return from Adrenaline Rush.

A redguard with 40K stamina will get back 1200 stamina on a melee attack every 5 seconds, which breaks down to 480 every 2 seconds.

Now consider that Wood Elf has 12% more recovery than Redguard. You would need 4000 Stamina Recovery in order for that 12% to be equivalent to 480/2 seconds. Obviously reaching these kinds of numbers is near impossible, and certainly is not possible without sacrificing damage.

So if you plan on sustained Melee fights Redguard is the hands down winner. More Damage and more Recovery.

    Redguard Stam Sorc (PVP)
    Altmer NB (DPS)
    Imperial DK (Tank)
    Redguard DK (DPS)
    Altmer Templar (Healer)
