Contrary to popular belief not all of Germany is like BavariaIn fact most of us here in northern and western Germany hate everything Bavarian... it's like Bavaria is more like northern Austria rather than southern Germany.

No need to apologize
In regards to beer... different areas in Germany brew different sorts of beer, so it's hard to tell without knowing which beer you likePersonally, I prefer a good irish stout to German beer, but if I have to drink German beer it's "Kölsch" (from Cologne) or "Alt" (from Düsseldorf and the surounding area).

Actually Octoberfest or "die Wiesn" (the meadow, refering to the greenfield where it takes place) as it is called by the locals has already started. It starts the first saturday after 9/15 and ends on the first sunday of october.
@ZOS_KaiSchober is German and thus probably his invitations are sent out in German as well.

So you are saying I should start the drinking now ? This is a good news !

To be very very honest with you . I have never had a German beer I didn't have liking too . In the land of Bud Light here all German beers are majical elixirs .
The country on my account is listed as "US," but the community invitation I received after recently joining EOS was in German from ZOS_KaiSchober
Luckily, the invitation code worked to register for the forum, but would like to get that straightened out so I don't need to enlist Google translate every time I get a notification :-)
Thanks!

Actually it's not a meadow anymore (in 1810, when the "Oktoberfest" took place for the first time it most certainly was one) but a big partly tarred space in the middle of Munich. This space is called "Theresienwiese" - hence the name "Wies'n".
There are some green areas next to it, but you really, really don't want to go there - it's disgusting, because of a lot of people being sick there.
The Oktoberfest is not the only big event on the Theresienwiese - the Tollwood-Festival in winter (we have a summer and a winter Tollwood-Festival) is taking place there, too. It's really worth visiting (much more than the Oktoberfest in my opinion) but unfortunately much too overcrowded.

And don't you let the Bavarians and the Austrians hear that!!You won't hear the end of it.
There is a huge difference between the two - and you notice it immediately after crossing the border from Germany to Austria (or the other way round).
Im actually from northern Germany (North Sea) but I moved to Bavaria more than sixteen years ago. It really takes a while to get used to the dialects - and shortly after having moved here I made the mistake saying that the Bavarian and Austrian dialect sound alike!Well, they don't, but at the time I was not accustomed to them and didn't "hear" it.
Now I'm working with a lot of Bavarians and Austrians - and of course there is a huge difference between the dialects. Meanwhile I can sometimes also differentiate between the Austrian dialects.
