How do I get reasonable levels of gold without spending ridiculous amounts of time grinding per day?

I am at a loss. How do I see people with 2m+ gold to their name? Currently at 700 cp with 6 max characters and only 2 have end game, full gold gear. I tried my hand at farming scraps, but the time to gold ratio is ridiculous. Tried my hand at trading, did quite well actually but I think I was lucky though. Made around 400k in 3ish hours but I haven't had that same success since and mindlessly searching all the traders around tamriel all day gets old on the 3rd run. Any help?

I personally don't do a lot of trading in terms of playing the market, most of what I do is selling rarer items from Trials and a key aspect of this is going while the going is good.

For example, back when Imperial City released I was making well over 750,000g an hour selling Dark Ether. When the new vSO was released it was around ~500k a run guaranteed for the gold jewellery and even nSO is still worth running as you can sell purple rings and such for a decent sum of gold. However, this period lasts days or maybe a week at most and requires you to really drop in, put the effort forth and reap the rewards super quick and this is where the PTS is a valuable resource.

Taking advantage of each new DLC and spotting what's going to be worth a fair bit in each new cycle is a good thing to do, lots of money to be made from people like me who need the best gear as soon as possible! For example in One Tamriel there may be some new Overland set that is a bit broken (such as Hulking Draugr, for example) and farming that to sell on the guild store in purple quality with a divines trait will make you a lot of gold pretty fast.

I suppose the TL;DR of my post is find items that sell for a lot, whatever they may be, and find the fastest way to acquire them! Not the most helpful advice ever, but it is true.

Other than that, yep, it just boils down to farming, trying to get legendary tempers, et cetera.

Selling alchemy flowers is a huge money maker. 10 columbine goes for like 9-10k. Daily quests for motifs when they first get released. Quick and easy.

But like anything, you have to invest time. Either farming for gold mats or getting gold to buy them.

Buy spell power or weapon power potion mats as cheap as you can find them (i don't spend more than 300g per mat)

Writs at top tier are 4k, and you can pre make the consumable ones, so 5 mins tops daily to a small Income. If you are logging Into all toons that alone is tidy.

Roll a thief, steal it all is also a good fun way to get gold.

But time invest Into crafting, writs, surveys, sell tempers is prob the best

Yep, doing all 6 top tier writs will net just over 27k per toon per week. I currently have 3 toons doing wrothgar writs and one in craglorn. That alone is more than 110k a week, in less than 30 min per day (with the lazy writ addon). Add another 2 hours per week for farming the surveys for mats and tempers. Profit.

I also do pledges daily on 1-2 toons, and trials on Sunday. Between the set drops (gear and motifs) and the mats from deconning trash drops, I keep my guild stores well supplied, which gets me a few hundred thousand gold per week. Even taking into account how much I spend on alchemy mats for pvp, the gold adds up fast.

Buy low sell high. Spend a hour or two trawling all guild stores for bargains to sell at going price. Check for materials, flowers, tempers etc. Sometimes you will come across ridiculous bargains. Quite a few times i've found stuff for dirt cheap, like few hundred gold, that actually sells for hundreds of thousands.

Do Writs!!! Do them every day on multiple toons. In 3 months, you will more gold and gold mats than you need. There are addons to help do them faster. I can do writs on 8 toons in 25-30 minutes.

The ability to do so is going to be removed on October 5th but I will let you in on my main source of gold revenue.

Writs on 9 characters. 8 of them do Craglorn equipment writs for the survey map chance. The survey spots have a decent chance at getting nirn. 860k per month is my average in sales of Nirnhoned equipment where the Nirn used to make was only farmed from the survey maps. On top of that are the gold upgrade mats from turning in, from hirelings, and from refining the mats I gather in the surveys. Also the net gold is about 11k from doing Craglorn Equipment and Orsinium Consumable writs on 8 characters, this assumes you pay 13g per Nightwood, 6g per Voidcloth, 6g per Shadowhide, and 8g per Voidstone.
