The term "Non-Combat Pet" is now used across the game to describe collectible pets.

    Could be just there might be more pet-based sets (besides Necropotence) in the future, to avoid confusion

    Probably just to avoid confusion like @Wow has stated. Calling them Non-Combat pets will ensure that people will know that they do not aid in combat rather than just calling them pets where they could be confused with Sorc pets in the tool-tips for sets.

    There was a thread on here a few weeks ago, someone had sorted their gear and bought a crown store pet I think expecting Necropotence or Eternal Hunt to work with it, and were narked it didn't.. So maybe a response to that.

    Neutral companions would have better described how they don't fight, collect resources, or give you buffs.

    As opposed to active companions like the banker/merchant who actually perform a task.

    Or indifferent companions like that cute NPC who never returns my rune calls.
