Scathing Mage vs Twice-born Star

Hello everyone, I had a debate with aguildie today on which one of these two sets would provide more DPS in trials, meaning a healthy Warhorn rotation along with all other raid buffs.

The complementary sets are 3 Pieces Wlillpower and 3 Infallible Aether.

Does anyone have any tests to prove which one is better? Or any math?

Without doing testing for your setup, I don't think it's worth farming for scathing in your situation. You would have to use 7 light, loosing 4% max magicka and hp as well as some resistances and the hp bonus from tbs. Which would make you very squishy and probably will force you to put points in hp and loose more magicka.
If you want to farm something to improve your build, a maelstrom staff or a monster set that fits to your build would probably be a better choice.

Maybe he meant this one from PTS Patch Notes v2.6.0:

Item Sets will now drop for every item slot. This excludes the Agility, Endurance, and Willpower jewelry sets.

Dungeon bosses and mini bosses will now drop a set piece 100% of the time.

Mini bosses will drop either a hand, waist, or feet set piece.
Bosses will drop either a chest, shoulder, head or leg set piece.
The final Boss of a dungeon will drop weapons or jewelry.

Normal mode dungeon bosses will drop blue-quality items.
Veteran mode dungeon bosses will drop purple-quality items.

I have a vMSA staff on the back bar and I'm planning on using Ilambris as the monster set (Mage Sorc OP) to replace Willpower and run a 4 piece Aether instead.

@DRXHarbinger Alright lets get farming man! I'm totally down for it. the guy with who I was debating was UA by the way

Yeah scathing will drop in jewelry but I don't think that giving up the Aether bonus will be worth having both Scathing and TBS. Ilambris is also a great set that I'd love to use.

But having both Scathing and TBS could be good, but we do end up with a dead slot for the staff on the front bar.
Some theory crafting is to be done.

Alright now the question is Scathing + TBS or Scathing + Ilambris + Aether.

Ilambris can pull 3.5k DPS single target, which is better than most sets (Velidreth was peaking at 2.8k or something). It even surpasses Molag Kena which is pretty damn sweet.

For a sorc dude. I'd go scathing + Moondancer using swords for full 5pc, illambris or storm fist both seem op and fun and vma inferno.

If they every fix mol that is.

But UA is right... in theory. The reality though is the guild set up never use warhorn properly or enough. They say that but they just don't. You'll get one horn up every 30s at best. So in that respect amd I never use Tbs with them tbh, I go scathing, Moondancer (aether rings just don't *** drop for ***) and nerenith. In trials nerenith is pretty good imo. Big fat static bosses and stacked adds all get hit by it.

I'm still having the argument with them to this day over warhorn. They forget that you need to be stacked to get the buff and it's a 12 radius and sometimes you miss it. It's great for stacking but take the stone Atro in archive, when you split into two to take the adds away from the boss half the group won't get it. Ra Kotu everyone is too far from the tank to get it, same for the warrior during that lightening phase.

I'm sure some pc leets will say otherwise but you need to be pretty close to caster to get the buff, and not every fight allows that.

Ya i just can't seem to get my hands on moondancer at all. I don't really like going with swords either so I just stick to my double destro set-up. I have the jewelry for aether, just need the lightning sharp staff. I got the gold aether necklace on that hel ra run and have purple rings which are to be replaced. I think moondancer would be awesome on a templar though.

Yeah getting 250 ult in 40s isn't too easy for a healer for example, but it has to happen to keep the rotation going (tank, heal, tank 2, heal 2) but it seems like its never the case. I don't have Neri in divines so i can't really use it.

UA is right but like you said best results come with Scathing (Streak One 48.5k DPS on the Twins).

I.m a magic nb and have tried both my own personal opinion is that Scathing is better, I'm getting about 80%+ uptime on scathing and things drop so much faster.

As said this is on my nb no idea how it would work out on a sorc always found julianous good enough on mine..
