Worst Guild Note Change Experience? Secret Plea for Better Guild Features

Hi All!

As you all know, guilds have only two options for guild note permissions. 1. Allow members to edit. 2. Not allow members to edit. What that means is, if I want my guild members to be able to change their note and add their role, crafts, expertise, etc. they must have access to changing other people's notes. This sucks. It needs to change. We need a middle ground... like an obvious one: 3. Allow members to change only their own note. **Before you bite my head off, I am aware there are more pressing concerns, like bugs that have been in the game since Beta or class balance changes (I'm pretty vocal about that).

So, Let's make this an opportunity to share funny stories? Maybe vent a little.. Here's what happened to me once.

I started up a guild with the mission of making it a casual free guild trader guild. I recruited a lot of newer players, the type who probably couldn't afford to pay the weekly dues needed to be in a high-traffic guild trader guild. I covered the costs of all the bids with my own money. I allowed them to change their own notes, and I quickly regretted it.

One guy decided to change about 100 different people's notes to [phalic object]. (If this gets censored, let's just say he changed it to a bad word.) He also changed his own note to 'leader of the bad word army' and mine to 'does not like bad word.' Because of that, I was able to identify him, and I immediately kicked him from the guild. Imagine you're like a new player, and you look on the roster and your guild note says bad word? Without context? Yea. It took me 30 minutes to clean up his mess, and when I confronted him about it, he thought it was funny. -.-

On another instance, I had a guild members change my note to 'needs therapy' and 'ms, means she's single.' What are your stories with unsolicited guild note changes as a result of a half-baked feature?

It's probably my inner 5th grader talking, but I found the "bad word" story hilarious.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

@Abeille Is it because I didn't use the actual word? I didn't want to get the thread locked or my post censored. xD

No, I just imagined the whole situation and I think I would have died laughing if it happened in one of my guilds xD
But I wouldn't do that myself. Honest.

I actually had no idea that allowing a person to edit notes meant everyone's notes, honestly I don't think I would have ever considered to actually try this... I'm sorry to say this thread had an unintended affect on me. While I agree what this person did is childish and insulting, I sadly must admit that I now have a burning desire to log on and change my buddy's player notes...
And only a little childish and not insulting at all...

    Ok maybe a little insulting...

Not everyone in the guild mind you just this one person and it's a small guild who all know each other, so a little different.

It's anonymous too, if you don't leave a trail or make it too obvious that it's you...

I don't recommend it though. The result is usually having the right revoked from everyone in the guild, and that hurts community-building in guilds.

I wonder if something like this happened in one of my guilds a while ago. I thought we could only change our own notes, but one day I went to update my available motifs for crafting on my note and I couldn't anymore.

There should certainly be an option to allow people to change only their own note.

Oh he will know it me...
And I really do see your point I really do.
The guild I am referring to is quite small and is actually a group of friends, many outside of the game as well.
In a larger guild that publicly recruits I would never consider this nor would it be comical as yes it would hurt community building, in this case it's just the guild is just an easy way for a group of friends to chat while we do our thing. Nor are we trying to build a community we are just a small group of friends.
    Same action different intent.

As a Guild Master I have the ability to edit everyone's notes.

Have to admit to being guilty of the odd inappropriate but(well in my mind) funny additions to Guildies notes!

However this guild is very old, formed on 30/3/2014, all people can edit notes, all people can access bank. :)
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

I had this happen in my guild a few days ago. One smart guy decided to replace various words in other people's notes with the poopy word and colourful words for genitalia and other body parts. Of course, it was very easy to identify him because he had the largest, er, assets.
Not even daedra have two left feet!

This definitely is a half-baked feature, and is also the unfortunate status quo with most guild features in ESO. For a while I had it set so only I and my officers could edit notes, but that's no fun. I eventually opened it up to all official members, and since then we've had a lot of fun editing our notes and the notes of others. Long-time members tend to have a bunch of random, crazy stuff in their notes, which are a lot of fun for all of us to read as time moves forward. I haven't had any issues with people editing them with an ill intent, but I also let everyone know that while tasteful editing is encouraged, editing with an intent to ruffle feathers will earn said offender an empty guild slot.
