Returning player and need help understanding new leveling system.

Background: I started a new character a couple of weeks ago and haven't played since Fallout 4 was released. Back then, the Veteran rank system was used.

Yesterday, I hit level 50 in Coldharbour and instantly turned CP 198, which is the identical level of my other toon. Is this supposed to happen?

I'm now at a situation I don't know what to do. I'm currently playing silver and all the enemies are CP 40, which means I'm way over-leveled. I'm now concerned my skills won't level as they should and I've still quite a few to get to 50.

Thieves Guild DLC is leveled (cool!), but my stuff isn't, and I didn't risk wasting the time to get pummeled by CP 200 toons while I'm still wearing level 40 gear. I can't even craft armor at my level since I've not unlocked them yet.

I'll continue with silver and gold just to get the gear for deconstruction exp, but wow, is this going to take a long time.

I think it's time to ditch the "level" before CP and just do it the way every other RPG game in the world does it. This system is a confusing, broken mess.

PS: I know One Tamriel addresses the leveling, but that's months away and I'd like to continue playing.

You could do gold first since those zones are all 160cp now and do silver after one tamriel is released?

And yes every character you make will have the same amount of cp, thats intended.

CP are account wide, which means every character (yes, even those of less than lvl 50) get to use the CP your account has earned. For characters below level 50, no CP are earned for XP gained - it just goes into the character level. Once you hit level 50 on a character, it becomes a "champion" character, and instantly levels up to the CP of your account. So all your level 50 characters will be of the same CP (though you need to "spend" the CP individually on each character to gain their effect). After reaching level 50 on a character, all further XP gained goes to level your account-wide CP.

Just do DLC only until One Tamriel.
The only reason to do silver and gold are skill quests

As far as scaled content like thieves guild - all enemies are CP160. If your character is below CP150, it will be scaled up to CP150, using some algorithm that takes into account your actual level, your stats, and your gear. So a CP198 wouldn't be scaled - you are what you are. Time to get CP160 gear as you hit max-level as far as that goes!

So as far as silver and gold go - continue with them or not as you choose. As soon as you hit level 50 you out-leveled them - you can skip and go right to endgame if you want. That is really the point of the new champion system - once you get there with one character you aren't forced to do so with others (just the regular level 1-50).

Thanks, guys, that helps with understanding how CP is rolled out to a new character.

I'll stick with silver for now, just to farm decon gear to get my crafting levels up so I can use the mats when I get to TG.

My other toon has a boatload of the high level stuff I can use, so that hireling paid off.
