This is exactly what I do as well. When I see people already grinding in a spot where I would like to grind, I just leave.

BUT if I get rude messages telling me to leave, it's on!

Edit: I even have the courtesy that when someone wants to do the quest in a grind spot, I usually stop and have a drink and a smoke so they can finish the quest.

Done all quests on first three characters, didn't feel like doing them again on the other ones so just grinded them. This was when V16 was still max level, almost made it to 5 V16's..... Now, you can grind to 50 in a few hours.

Same thing happened to be today...was in a grinding area for 30min,... then two toons come in and start yelling at me "don't steal our xp, stfu".... without any sort of introduction, asking or anything...just straight to yelling....

I could give two flips! If someone tells me where to go in game they get reported for harassment. Plain and simple. We all have a right to be here doing our quests, or whatever. Nobody owns the content but ZOS.

I understand the XP thing, that's not the issue...if you want to communicate that to someone, speak to the other person in a normal civilized way, by at least asking...... not by yelling in red letters, swearing, being disrespectful and demanding.... aka a total jerk...

Never thought about reporting for harassment... Maybe I'll do that next time!!

@SteveCampsOut If someone politely tried explaining the questing or grinding thing, you'd immediately report them for harassment?

Last time this happened, I just targeted their mobs and messed up their mob rotation. I was only there for a quest but I spent a good hour messing with them.

if you heal them you cut their exp and leech it
if you damage more than 10% of mob hp - you leech exp too

i hate leechers while im grinding

especially i hate those noobs, who grinding very slowly alone
and when i and my partner come to grind in that area, we trying to avoid em, choose different route, but they become our followers and no matter what we said to them they continue follow and *** LEECH

I would definitely make it my own personal vendetta to be on their way as much as I could and take mobs away from them.
This is a game and last time I checked we couldn't "reserve" certain parts of the map for our own personal affairs.

Yeah this would be my response to a rude grinder. Pull their mobs all over creation and send them back to Cyrodil. Make them waste those exp scrolls and ambrosia, lol. Just keep whispering to them "gg"

If a singe quester is messing up your grinding, you pretty much suck at it. Many times grinders compete against each other for mobs, and it's the fastest / best that get the mobs.

That's something I didn't know.

I am wondering, do the drop rates for motifs and trophies also increase when grouped and drop when 'shared'?

I've been a big alt grinder, have done so I think 9-10 different characters now. It can be frustrating to have your route disrupted, especially when running XP scrolls/potions as they are on a timer. On the other side of that coin, whenever I've run in to ass hats, I just run the same route either backwards from them, or randomly to mess up their flow. If they want to be ***, well, I know how to be a much bigger ***
