Mechanics Question Concerning Valkyn Skoria

I have a mechanics based question about Valkyn Skoria and certain abilities. I know it is procced by DOTs, but what about AoE DOTs centered around the caster, such as Thundering Presence, Devouring Swarm, and Baleful Mist? Would these abilities proc Valkyn Skoria or do they have to be DOTs applied to the target?
