Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

More EU maintenance this morning?

We anticipate downtime to be approximately 8 hours, though we’ll let you know if it will be longer.

Looks like server will be up at the end of the day...

Hopefully that eight hours will not be 12 hours but I would not be surprised if its a 12 hour maintenance.
For one they have three servers, or four plus the accounting store they have to do. So I suspect doing each one would take time. So yeah don't expect to be in game this morning.

They don't dio maintenance on the server but i the data center, replacing switches, firewalls whatever central thing to permanently fix yesterday's issue (I assume). The probably do not have to work on the 3 servers individually.

Hate to say it, but rolling a character or two on NA actually can help alleviate the feelings of aggravation. All my beta / mains are on EU and I consider it my home, but they have a few cousin characters in the states for over a year now. Keeps me sane... maybe others should try it...? :)

I hope they will actually fix stuff, not break it so we won't be able to log in for 8 hours tomorrow again (and have another maintenance next day).

Good morning, today's server down is due to a maintenance in the European data center.
The timing is indeed unfortunate after yesterday's long unplanned outage.

We expect this maintenance to last several hours.

    Hi Kai,

How come there is the last 2 months way more EU server maintenance then NA server maintenance. Are the Germans using hamsters to run the EU server show?

Do monthly subscribers get a refund for the days EU was not up while NA was?

Nope. They chose a firm that has no interest in the word "continuity" you know what most firms living in 2016 do. Can anyone name a major online product with as much downtime as this?

I'll say it again...can't wait for battlefield. Even they give etas on fixes and maintenence, which has never been more than 2hrs on BF4, and had more players.

The game being unplayable for three mornings/days in a row isn't really reasonable anymore. Not all people work office hours for example, and there are different time zones in Europe too. Some of my friends haven't been able to play at all since Monday.

I understand the downtime yesterday (Wednesday) wasn't planned, but at the same time many players are actually paying a monthly sub for your product.

Not going to install the game 3 times (eu and pts already) just because ZoS cant get a decent dataserver,
i rather stop subbing and play some other beloved games when its down.

Start complaining in a ticket about longtimes and keep doing so,
that got me one day of eso+ added to my sub about 3 weeks ago.
I was happily surprised back then, but meanwhile there been so many maintenance again that it feels like ages ago and made me decide i am stop subbing when my eso+ stops in 3 days.

I hate *that* guy more than I hate downtimes because of his ignorance.

I'm a soccer dad with freelance work, and thus:

    - I am more outside and meet more people than probably the whole forum combined
    - I obviously did something with my life
    - My only free time is in the morning, workdays - and not by choice

Since this is the one and only game with planned (and unplanned!) maintenance in the morning, bad luck for me, have to look for some other game, does not matter. It's just ignorant pseudo-chilled 16yr olds who keep repeating this dumb argument who really get me going.

Complete and utter incompetence of this company is mindblowing. I went away for a month to play a game that actually works hoping the situation here would get better yet it's even worse... Shame I still have an active sub and over 3000 crowns on my acc :/ Wish I could get my money back, not money well spent...

The community here is amazing, no other mmorpg would get away with this much downtime and ZOS does not even appreciate that. Wonder how long it can last though... Thanks for ruining a potentionally amazing game!

Only just came back to the game and not even 2 weeks into my subscription and already regretting it. This constant crap was the reason I quit playing in the first place. Figured I'd come back and see if things had improved. Evidently they haven't. I have played online since it was possible to play online, and Zenimax are still the biggest bunch of screwups I have come across when it comes to running an MMO.

And Zenimax do please explain to me why you couldn't get your data center staff off their arses and do this over night (eu time) rather than starting it just as EU players are getting up and logging on? Can you really be a) so stupid and b) so indifferent to your eu players? You make enough money out of us to afford to pay a little overtime and to pay us a little more consideration whilst your at it.

And then explain just how you recquire 8 hours of maintenance 2 days after scheduled maintenance. In fact, your data center must be in a pretty bad state to require even a couple of hours under these circumstances. Or is the 8 hours simply indicative of the fact that you have no idea what the issue is or how long it will take to fix? More likely that you screwed something up on Tuesday, considering all the issues yesterday and are merely camoflaging your incompetence as usual.

Finally, do please explain to me how many peanuts you are paying the monkies who work at the data center? Because I'm thinking it's a few too many. If I employed people to do a job they evidently couldn't do to a decent standard and whom consistently caused such discontent amongst my paying customers, I'd be looking for new people to employ.

@cromdubh68 Man, it's obviously a ruse. An unscheduled maintenance right after the servers were going to hell and were just barely patched after several hours of people being unable to log in.

Suppose saying it's a data center maintenance is better than saying "We are incompetent and don't know how to program our own game, so we need to take the servers down again"

When I finally logged in yesterday, the first thing that came to my mind was that we can expect another maintenance, and my guildies agreed with me..

Well, we started renting IT services outside of our company about 12 years ago - never, ever have we had an outage in a server center because they were changing switches, firewalls, routers and whatnot, Our lowest availability we offer to our customers is 99.5% and we simply couldn't fulfill this if simple maintenance jobs like those you mentioned would take the infrastructure down.

You either plan for continuous service and build your software accordingly or you have no clue what that is and start coding away. ZOS obviously has no clue.

Many people claim that maintenance in MMOs is a regular thing - I'd like to point out that Guild Wars 2, for example, even managed to roll their first expansion pack into production with 0 downtime. You get a message that a new build is available, you log off and back on - you download the new content as fast as your connection allows and - you're back into the game.

So the downtime there is individual (since you can decide when to log out to load the new build) and - except for a few cases when they patched a critical exploit - the windows in which you could remain online was between 45 minutes and 2 hours.

I've never experienced something like ESO offers with 4+ hours in which the service just isn't available. Poor software design, poor technical infrastructure. Having a dedicated server that needed downtime when you replaced components is a concept that was modern 10 years ago. Nowadays you have virtual servers and if you need more servers you just start more instances and you stop them when you no longer need them.

Of course, the datacenter hosts running those virtual servers can run into problems - all of our external providers have spare servers, though, and the longest downtime we had for single server (or instance) applications was less than an hour when the image was moved to a new ESX host. If you have an architecture that is using multiple servers already you may get a load peak and somewhat sluggish response until the new instance is online but you do not have a complete outage.
