Steampunk in ESO?

Edit: People are misunderstanding what I mean. I'm concerned they may add Steampipe Senches, Dwemer Polymorphs etc. I'm fine with Clockwork City and the Dwemer inventions.

I saw the datamined icons for Dwemer Crown Crates.

At the moment there's not much to go on, granted. However, there is the possibility we may start getting a lot more lore-breaking mounts and armour in-game.

I adore steampunk but I don't know if it belongs in ESO :/

Would you be happy, sad or indifferent about steampunky aspects being added?

Given that there's been Dwemer blimps in lore, I'm ok with certain things. For example, I'd love some Dwemer inspired siege weapons in game.

As long as they're not too monstrous I think they'll be ok. However, a Dwemer mount in itself is a weird concept. I'm going to see what they come up with before worrying. I mean, MMO's are generally not the best genre towards series lore due to mounts and the such. Have you seen what they did to the Warcraft lore in WoW? Hoo boy . . .

But I do also think they have Bethesda watching over their shoulders occasionally to make sure the lore isn't too butchered. Of everything I've seen in game, the biggest lore problem to me is the hundreds of Vestige's when we are constantly told we are the only one. However, I am a massive lover of ES lore, and have been since the beginning of the series.

But at the end of the day it's their lore and franchise to do with as they see fit. We may love the property but we never own it. We don't even own our characters, strictly speaking.

Well, if any culture in ES could be construed as "steampunk" it would be the dwemer.

In Morrowind I remember climbing on the giant walking crossbow siege engines outside one dwemer ruin. If they would bring back something like that, it might be awesome. For a "normal" mount type of affair, not so much. If it isn't taken too far overboard, [and isn't all in the rngesus boxes] doing some "rediscovered dwemer tech" might not be too bad.

Well, the Dwemer have always been pretty steampunk. As long as it's just Dwemer stuff, and it's nothing that will stretch the bounds of disbelief (ie. if it's something that we should have heard about in another TES game if it had existed then it's a problem, but if it's something that could have reasonably been lost in the intervening time and just not rediscovered in the Dwemer ruins we've seen in other games then it's OK), I'm OK with it.

Maybe it's just me but I can think of things a LOT more lorebreaking than a Dwemer construct mount.

It's going to be a Crown Crate exclusive (near as I can tell) anyway so I won't be getting one regardless, but pretending for the sake of discussion they will be normal Crown Store items: I'd like to see a Dwemer mount that is NOT a horse or other existing mount just made out of gears and steam. Give me a Dwemer hamster-ball contraption, or maybe something like the Dwemer Ballistae but with a seat--stick with the existing theme for Dwemer constructs where they can fold up into a rolly-ball or have lots of insect-like legs.

inb4 ZOS tells us what they think of the lore by giving us a double-wheeled dwemer sphere mount, I'll leave what that would look like to the imagination :^)

I don't think dwemer creations have ever actually been called steam punk, but they basically are.

So as long as the new items are dwemer creations I don't see it as lore-breaking. The biggest issue would be how to explain the existence of so many of them, when functional dwemer machines have always been a rare sight on the surface. But that's been an issue since the game was 6 months old and subscribers started getting the Loyal Dwarven Sphere pet.

I'm fine some lore-appropriate steampunk as long as we don't have random, inadequate advances in technology. I mean we already have dungeons with tools, labs, and levers, etc.

Pretty much this. I agree with Dani.

Pretty much. I mean, look at some of these dwemer creations from previous TES games:
    SR-creature-Dwarven_Spider.jpg
    RG-creature-Robot_03.jpg
    DB-creature-Dwarven_Ballista.jpg
    MW-creature-Steam_Centurion.jpg
    BM-place-Patchwork_Airship.jpg
Note that the last one is actually an airship cobbled together from some dwemer technology at a much later date, and is not an entirely dwemer creation.

Lore wise it doesnt bother me at all. Given the whole dwemer race is basically steampunk. From machine armies to merging with machines themselves, having half machine cities. Its just a skullcap with glasses that anyone can find in a dwemer ruin. Not like we're rebuilding a centurion and riding into war.

It does, well to a point. The dwemer is all about steampunk and there's an entire city that would make Julius Verne hard in Morrowind called the Clockwork City. Not in ESO though (yet anyway)

And I agree with that. Steempipe Senche or something like that would just seem out of character for the Dwemer. If it's something that seems to fit in with the types of things the Dwemer created then I'd be OK with it.

Most of what I have seen and experienced in Dwemer dungeons and the reward pet seems in character. The hats and goggles and even blimps as noted do not bother me and add some flair imho. I'd even support a steampipe spider mount.

But for the love of all that is holy, please, please no steampunk motorcycles or go-carts!!!
