So i just started doing alchemy and I am curious how you discover traits for reagents. I know that if you " eat " them you will discover one or two traits but how do you get the rest. Do you have to keep making potions out of them. If so that will take a lot of resources

Experiment. Or click below in the spoiler link for a minimal effort guide to discovering every herbal and poison trait while maxing out alchemy for a minimal cost.

You either eat them or trial and error through the combinations as every time you get a pairing you unlock it.

Or as per above if you want easy mode go to a website, see the combos and then make potions / poisions and each time you do you unlock it.

You can do it in less than 30 minutes if you have a bundle of each of the flowers and plenty of solvent.

Just mix reagents by trial and error, but don't forget to level up your skills so that you can use better solvents, use 3 reagents (tripots) and get 4 of each potion each time.

Sell off the low level potions to vendors if you don't have any low level characters who could use them.

I'd recommend against eating them, considering you're only going to get one trait if you eat them (ie the first of the four), whereas you can get at least one trait if you pair it up with another ingredient with the same trait(s).

It's just more efficient to create potions with them rather than eating them. You can also vendor the stuff you make while grinding alchemy for a small profit.

Trial and error at the alch station worked for me. I was sitting on 3 months worth of mats (how long I had been playing at the time) and I got my alchemy to 50 in under an hour my first time doing it. It's pretty much the easiest profession to level.

I'm so mind-blown right now! I've played this game for 10 months now, and I never knew you could 'eat' alchemy reagents. LOL

Yep, you have to make potions and hope the reagents react. You also get exp on failed experiments, which is actually more than crafting an iron dagger 20 times.

One of the most interesting things about Alchemy is actually understanding it. These aren't just random plants thrown together to create a potion. They work just as they do in real life.

Just as we wouldn't mix two bases in Chemistry, so too one wouldn't want to mix two similar reagents together in Alchemy.

Just a few tips, without giving too much away:
    - Things that grow in caves work well with things that grow with flowers.
    - Things grown on stems work well with other grown things, but not if they also grew on stems.
    - Colors befriend colors, but darks do not befriend darks.

This game has a surprising level of science behind the crafting, including how materials spawn in the game.

    It's not really chance.

Good luck with your Alchemy crafting. I'll be doing it again once my critical crafting skills hit 50.
