Emperor used to mean something before every man and his dog farmed their way to it on dead and buff servers before they rationalised it and nerfed the passives. Emperor only means something now if they're a good player or an average one with a decent guild behind it - otherwise you're just an achievement piñata and will only hold it for 5 minutes anyway given how the servers are these days.

With all the good guilds broken up, the campaigns just don't feel competitive anymore. When's the last time you saw an emp crowned in the middle of prime time after an intense mapwide GvG chess match culminating in a showdown at the last keep? I'm a bit of a cynic, but it feels like every emp crowned on NA PC these days takes the keeps by force of numbers in off hours. The only emp since 1.6 ended to impress me with how he acquired emp or his achievements during his reign is Essa on Had a couple months ago, but his group didn't have another quality organized group to fight. Been feeling this for a while now, it's one of the reasons I just don't have much of a desire to lead anymore, everything is just faction vs faction hordes during primetime

To be honest I don't even think it would be possible to crown emperor with lock pop in the current meta. Thieves guild patch made taking a keep very difficult - almost impossible with 60+ inside. The only way to get emp would be if one of the other factions pick up a scroll out of the other factions gate and then you co-ordinate at least 2 guilds (as you mentioned not many guilds left in the game) to assault the final keeps.

Pretty much.

Near the end of last patch I was looking through videos of our better keep takes, and pretty much zero of them are possible anymore. Up until just a few patches ago I could take my raid to literally any keep fight and have a shot (even if slim) at winning it. Kinda makes me sad lol

Haxus (and EP) crowned Sneaky on TF during US primetime last week and we (K-Hole and DC) crowned Defiant on TF on Friday during primetime US time, so it is still happening.

I haven't really been on yet this campaign to see what's been happening.

Were the other factions poplocked when it happened? I thought those crownings happened just after pledge reset which is when the US primetime starts dropping off? Otherwise that's pretty surprising... I wonder how many people were farming telvar stones in IC. >.>

I think the major point is, who was online when you crowned those? Did Haxus crown vs a Khole raid and vice versa?

I just enjoy pvp without being emp, that is why I don't push for it anymore, being in a faction that rarely sieges, or put camps gets annoying.Being emp on DC means you have to siege ,defend and all that stuff 80% of the time by urself. Now I get to play on all camps without the need to worry about ranking/ ap

Should we be surprised that the guild v guild competition has been in a slow decline for a long time now? The competitive guilds atm are either A. remnants of the old guilds teaming up together or B. JV squad peeps from back in the day acting like big boys. I can count on one hand the active, good GvG ESO guilds(in no particular order and all of these belong to the A category): K-Hole,Haxus,Venatus, and Invictus. This is just guild v guild, mind you, not even considering current small mans as that's a different beast altogether (the small man won't stop an Emp push in the current PvP landscape-- since there's: no dynamic ult gen,mega zergs on each side,etc.)

Almost all of the aforementioned guilds are not as strong as their parent guilds/older iterations of themselves (the exception being Invictus as it is tremendously better as a group than GoS ever was). NM,DiE,Havoc (a DiE offshoot group, fyi to newer players), IR, and old Venatus were better than their offspring guilds running atm. Comparing new groups to old groups is insulting to the old groups. Hova-led NM could come back, gear up, grind CP/do the other PvE crap to get competitively ready for PvP, and NM would rock any of the newer groups if there were equal numbers on each side. Same thing with pre-bloat Alacrity (pre-bloat was when Casuale,Metal Dimmu, Reese Withoutherspoon,etc were around [bloat Alacrity being defined as when Luv and Dream led the guild]), I'd put money on pre-bloat Alacrity and/or NM beating any of the current GvG guilds. There's a glaring gap between current and old leadership quality, not numbers,metas,etc. Same goes for the other parent guilds, except GoS as it lacked good leads. The amount of current guilds who succeed in GvGs while pulling off wholly weak and apparent flanks is too damn high. The amount of current guilds who fall for feigned retreats and reengage ult bombs is way too damn high. I could go on, but I think it's succinct enough to say that,when compared to old groups, the current flanks,map strat, and group tactics are akin to SotP 10 min stealth bombs while outnumbering your opponents 2 to 1.

Let me preempt the "pre-1.6 and post-1.6 are different beasts and you cannot compare groups from each period to each other, yada yada". What has the popcap been reduced to atm? Like 150? It used to be 300 for each faction, so your 8 man in 2.5 is a significantly bigger portion of the popcap than any 8 man was back in the day, just simple math. Current PvP is also more numbers-reliant(due to lack of dynamic ult gen, etc.)--old PvP had numerous force multipliers,e.g., ground oils. Anyway, for the sake of argument, we'll use 150 as the current popcap (I don't think there has been any official statement as to what the actual popcap is set at anymore--some believe it's 150, so we'll use that). Popcap has been reduced by like 50%, so it's easy to understand that you'll be fighting fewer individuals now than back in the day. 8/150 is a little less than 5.4% of the faction's population (if the faction is poplocked). 8/300 is less than 2.7% of the faction's population. Basically, it's a 50% increase to your effective fighting force size due to a 50% population reduction. Simply put, an 8 man in 2.5 would be the equivalent of a 16 man when the popcap was 300. *disclaimer, this is using a poplocked faction as a reference, so the percentages will be different if the population size is changed* A 24 man when the popcap was 300 is the equivalent of a 12 man in 2.5(24/300=8% and 12/150= 8%). This isn't anything more than X% of popcap. There are different variables to take into consideration, but as anyone should realize after this blurb--pre-1.6 and post-1.6 are most assuredly comparable.

I agree. It seems it is only late night or early morning when someone is crowned emp on EU. I haven't seen anyone crowned emp during prime in a long time. It is always just waking up to find we have a new emp.

Idk about "prime time" one was at 4am and the other was at 6am for me

however sometime last week we were close to a true prime time emp. We got 5 keeps and the only keep left to flip was alessia and the zerg had been at alessia bridge for hours but haxus never managed to get over there as about 60 DC rolled up on ash and flipped the keep with us on flags so we proceeded to farm DC in their own keep.

Also defiant was crowned during "prime time" about 11pm est but it was the night that the pts dropped and I don't think ep or ad were pop locked. I think it's definitely possible to cap emp during prime time in full lock pop but you need significant organization between the zergs and organized guild groups and catch your enemy with their pants down.
