My bet is on another DDoS attack. (laucher wouldn't be showing server as online if this was maintenance)

Really, being a tech guy is such a thankless job - when you do your job well, and servers run smoothly, nobody notices, nobody says "GJ, nothing wrong happened", because that's "normal" - but as soon as the server drops, its curses and insults galore.
