Sun set viable for mDKs?

I noticed the revamped Sun set adds 400 spell damage to Flame skills and I'm assuming that number isn't static and could be boosted by outside sources? I'm just curious how this set performs compared to TBS, IA and Elegant or in conjunction. I got a Sharpened Staff of the Sun (Inferno) and was wondering how it compares. I have a high 6-figure offer on it and don't want to sell it until I'm absolutely sure.

Pepper8Jack✭✭✭For mDK this set supposedly does provide quite a boost. Many of the people Ive been running trials with lately are solely after that set. I have yet to get the necessary pieces to test myself however, so I can't provide any solid comparison to TBS, etc.0 -

saw Blobs stream the other day and he said damage increase is VERY noticible in PVP
imagine all your skills doing MORE damage, and I imagine it only goes up with CPOne Tamriel killed PVP

✭✭✭✭✭I dont have perfect pieces to test and havent bothered to try. Every theory crafter that I know capable of doing the math, says the numbers just dont support it. I have sold every good piece I found. As someone that mains a magic DK in trials, I really wanted this set to be good. I just dont think it is.

I don't use fancy addons so I don't know about DPS numbers, but did helra for the first time with the setup last night and the burn on warrior was significantly better, but I also spec into as much fire damage as possible.
PvP I think this will be metaTl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.0 -

✭✭✭My mDK has always used Silks of the Sun / Elf Bane (among other things) although back in the day I had to weapon swap to proc the 2 sets, as the only way to get them both wedged onto one character was to use a Maul (only weapon available for Elf Bane for most of its history) and Flame Staff. They were never rescaled, and now that they are I'm off testing other strange ideas.
Elf Bane adds 2 seconds to flame DoTs. Depending on the DoT that can be a pretty significant amount of extra damage.
Add Thaumaturge to that. And Skoria.0 -

Farmed the staff, gold ring and neck and purple ring in one sitting (quite a few runs). It's not THAT hard to farm. Plus, 250k really isn't that much. Just doing my dailies, writs and what I make from crafting and hirelings, and being VERY frugal, I've managed to bank over 2.5mill this month.0 -

Yeah, I would be on the sell side of all Sun transactions if you only care about PVE until I see one of the big guys with some VMOL parses to suggest it's actually viable. I sold a neck for 250k almost instantly, should have asked for more. haha.0 -

✭I'm using 5 silks of the sun, 3 jewelry, belt and gloves. Trying to figure out what else to run with it. I've thought about 4 elfbane, 1 Kena, 2 torugs for max spell damage. Also though of 5 black Rose, 2 torugs, or 5 kags 2 bloodspawn. Can't decide... Any advice? I plan on at least 5 heavy. I have every monster set.0 -

I've had the most success in PVP pairing it with Black Rose and Velidreth. S@B on both bars, using Soul Strike spam for sustain. Haven't missed my heals at all. Won many 1v3s. Mobility is key. I still have to rely on Vampire a lot. Thinking about trying Malaubeth or Skoria, though. I rely a lot on evasive maneuvers, so I don't like Blood Spawn on my mDK.0 -
forzajuve212✭✭✭✭✭Yep, I've run 5 sun 5 kags 2 BS for the longest time, still as tanky as i was previously (3 willpower 2 magnus) except with more damage. Running double s/b with tooltip with at 8.9k with entropy, 38k max mag.Edited by forzajuve212 on September 2, 2016 8:33PM0 -

You can make 100k+ an hour easy in Old Orsinium farming leather.0
