Tank query - resistance cap?

Our tank is pushing his resistance right up and wanted to confirm the cap? I read 32k but wasn't sure.

Also, say his resistance is at 38k does that mean if ur hit with major breach/fracture that you still above cap?

Short version is going beyond the cap 100% pointless?

Going over cap is useful only in PVP, where you will certainly be breeched.

I believe it's actually 32.5K but I could be off by a bit on that. Going above the cap is completely pointless unless you get hit by something that lowers your resistance, but it does help in that case.

To be honest, though, I don't think there's any point going above the cap in PVE. It's rare to have your resistance lowered, and if you're at cap and do get your resistance lowered, you'll still be high enough to have good mitigation. PVP might be a different story.

Resist cap is 33150 . After this point , your resist values don't give you any mitigation . Unless you got debuffed with some kind of armor reduction .

Each 1% of mitigation is 660 Physical/Spell Resistance, therefore cap (50%) is 33000. Going above this will not increase mitigation, but if your Physical or Spell Resistance are reduced by any source, it will act as a buffer to prevent dipping under the 50% cap. That being said, it is almost impossible to have 50% resistances in PvP, as there are far more sources to Penetrative values than there are Resistance values, so sacrificing key set bonuses for a little extra mitigation is often not recommended.

I believe the current hard cap on resistances is 33.1k which is a base 50% reduction in damage. There is little benefit to going over the cap in PVE as there aren't many (any?) abilities that mobs use that reduce your resistances. In PVP, however, there is a benefit to going over the cap as most people have penetration values in the 10k region.

Cap is no longer really required as long as dos is decent. We get plenty of resistance from CP (if placed properly l) that doesn't show up on character sheets.

Many tanks are gearing for ultimate Tava's blessing and various sets that reduce ult costs. Additionally buff debuff sets such as alkosh and ebon can be worn. Additionally crushed enchant and maybe even crushed on an infused main hand is a big help.

The more the boss is debufed and the greater up time of WH the faster bosses die.

Of course this is talking about trials and of course having light dps reduces the benefit these items offer.
