I'm curious as to why you feel that someone else playing and showing you video of them playing is a prerequisite to keeping you "engaged, educated, and entertained" in a game that has had millions spent on developing a huge game world with amazing people and things to do.
Again, just curious..

It's not a prerequisite at all. Sometimes I only have a couple minutes to myself and firing up the game and playing for a couple seconds is not practical. Easier to watch a 4 minute video and move on with my next task. Additionally, it can be inspiring to try something new or something I would have never considered. Maybe prompt me to do an activity I wasn't comfortable with armed with new information and exposure. Maybe someone is exploring a race/class combo that I don't want to invest 100s of hours into personally.
I could go on and on why it's not a complete waste of time. Basically it's a source of entertainment
