Trophies and low levels

I am a level 50 and trying to finish off a few achievements. I have been trying to collect the Polished Shell Shard for forever. I have slaughtered so many poor mudcrabs.

Sometimes I find myself in lower leveled areas and surrounded by mudcrabs (or whatever mob/trophy).

Even though I do not gain XP, will I still have a chance with the trophy since the mob drops loot (crafting/alchemy materials)?

Nay my friend. General rule of thumb is if your five levels above what your fighting you will not gain experience or loot drops. There are some exceptions to the five levels rule (like crafting materials) but trophies are not one of them. At level 50 you'll have to try and get your trophies from creatures lv45 and higher.

I am also trying to get "Polished Shell Shard" item drop at level 50, and heard that it drops in Wrothgar. Does anyone know the exact location? Additionally, can anyone confirm whether "Polished Shell Shard" item can be dropped in Hew's Bane?

Until recently the DLC Mudcrabs seemed to be a different species than the other Mudcrabs in the rest of the game, as far as dropping Chitin. Now, they do drop the Chitin, and, Chitin drops from all mudcrabs. So, the Crabs have changed.

As for finding this Trophy, best to farm Crabs in the zones scaled to your CP level, or close to it, if your over L50.

The other day I was in Hew's Bane murdering these poor fellows in a spot that when you start killing them, more shows up (up to 7 of them). They never dropped anything other than XP. Very close to it, there was a lone mudcrab that dropped Chitin every time. I thought that was weird.

Were you only getting miniscule amounts of XP per crab? I think you may have been at a mudcrab nest. I know I've seen those in Gold Coast, and I can't remember if I've seen them in Hew's Bane as well. I've never had anything drop from mudcrabs from a mudcrab nest - I think they're too weak and easily killed to drop anything.
