Why can't master crafters repair armour?

It's strange that any old merchant anywhere can repair armour, but a master crafter has no idea how to do this. Is it beneath their notice? Is creating armour the be-all, and who cares if it falls to pieces the first time you wear it?

I hate having to manage superfluous stuff like armor degradation, but I would fully support this instead of an alchemist being able to fix my pants.

You have armor repair kits if you want to repair yourself. They are similar in function to the hammers in Morrowind and Oblivion, but without the RNG - repair would fail and the hammer will break. But there even the weapons degraded from normal use and the degradation was linear - that armor or weapon became less effective even if the condition was 90%; here only armor degrades and the degradation only becomes noticeable when the condition of that part is 0%. In Oblivion weapons and armor could be improved to 125% and Skyrim the armor and weapons didn't break, but could be improved even further. Armor repair was probably implemented as a gold sink. On a general note the system in ESO combines the system in the previous games.

It would be nice to use crafting ability for repair. I suspect if it hasn't been made available, it probably won't be.

Yeh its unbelievably stupid that we can create the most amazing armor in the world from scratch but cant repair them. Like really stupid.

You should have to just get mats and be able to do it for free yourself.

Agree, should be able to do it without the kits if you're a master! Just costs a few mats or whatever... Pretty straightforward really.

We have been asking this question since Early Alpha.

The best answer given is we need a Gold Sink, and it is a pretty good mechanism for doing just that. So, we would have to pay for repairs in some way shape or form, even if we do them ourselves. Why not pay an in game merchant NPC.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

instead of creating imbalance, stuff like this should have been covered under CP... Earn less gear degradation, or gear repair

You don't have to be a master crafter to use a repair kit. Any old anyone can use a repair kit. My question remains.

Its part of a 'Fair work agreement' between crafter's and merchants, initiated as a mechanism of subsidizing the merchant class for their outlay, buying all that junk looted in the world.
