Mute Option for Console chat 「Yup already」

I think its time we get a mute chat for console chat. You'll ocassionally get those people who spam their armor (link chat) or people in area spamming text so why not get a option like /mute in that category to stop all flows of chat from popping up?

Example if I go to zone and type /mute it'll mute all zone chat same goes with the same area it'll mute all area text chat.

Just ignore those people. The option to do so is in the full-screen text chat.

If you really want to disable text chat though just turn it off.

On PC there's a little cog you can click to uncheck which chat channels you don't want to see. I don't know if there's anything like that on console though...

Not surprised on this it was always going to happen.. I just leave it switched off, I'm a voice fan, but Voice area is always off too for same reasons!

Options > Social > Hide the Chat box. If you can't ignore it while it's on screen then just turn it off then.

Are you not able to create custom channels? On PC you can make a new text chat channel and just select which kinds of text chat you want to go in that tab. Great for when one of your guilds is pointless trade spam but the other ones are chill.

In the social tab you can turn off voice chat in general and leave on any or all guilds or turn them off individually as well. That option has always been there. Since I always leave chat turned off I have not seen text chat so I assume that is turned off as well but I don't know how I did it.

You're not understanding what I'm saying but that's ok I'm not the best at explaning certain things but here we go. I do want to see chat go off every now and then but sometimes I prefer to have an option where I can stop the flow of text from one channel at will and let it pick up every so often; or even mute all chat except for my group so I can read the text/respond to it. I don't want to turn off text chat I just want to be able to mute individual chats so I can deal with one channel if I so wish to.

ZOS did say long ago in one of the requests for console text chat that some features are problematic so perhaps mute is one of those.....

You can mute a profile on XBL but not sure if that mutes text chat in this game, but I'd think many would be in favor of this cause it seems once I used text chat it's always on even after swapping characters.

One of the reasons I don't like text chat is the spam and constant linking of stuff
It's basically advertisements over n over again

Lol, I know what you mean about people spamming links to gear. When I was in mournehold today someone was spamming links to an agility ring. I'm actually in the market for a couple of agility rings so thought I might make an offer and see if I could get a good deal, I go into the full text chat, scroll on to the latest spammed message... arcane!

I agree. It is a feature that I feel is very much so overdue for the game on console. The only means of muting select people now, is through blocking them on their PSN profile. I don't know how you'd go about doing so on XBL, so I can't really help there. But yes. I definitely agree.

It already exists and you don't have to turn off the whole chat. You simply need to view gamer card and select block/ignore.

Menu>Social>Text Chat>scroll up to desired ignoree>menu>view gamer card>block/ignore

Yeah, I saw the old "give me gold for a mount" spam in chat yesterday. Didn't know that was still a thing after 12 years of everyone knowing it's bs. Although, this player was claiming to be a girl and offering to send nudes in return, so at least there was some added flavor.

We definitely need the ability to enable and disable channels however we see fit, if I don't want to see my trading Guilds spam items for sale then I shouldn't have to, and turning my Text Chat off is not an acceptable option since it defeats the entire point of it being added at all if using it properly means not using it.
