Returning Player Needs Help Understanding Caldwell SIlver & Gold

So I decided to come back to ESO and make a new character. I quickly leveled him to 50 and now it seems he shares my main character's Champion rank (which is cool af btw) and all of my Caldwell Silver questing areas are scaled to a wayyyyy lower level. My main is CR 281, so now my DK is CR 281 and EVERYTHING I've come across so far in Ebonheart is Champion Rank 40. Have these quests become pointless/optional? Help!!! Thanks in advance.

You still need to defeat Molag Bal to start them but I suppose you can get a head start... But yes the levels have changed. Gold zones are all CR160 and Silver are as you see them (40-150 if I recall correctly).

Thanks for the reply. I have beat Molag Bal already in AD's main quest line. Are these quests still considered mandatory? Why do they not scale? It's *** that I'm fighting opponents over 200 CR levels below me.

Well once you get past 160 CPs you are officially overleveled and can only get more overleveled lol

Cadwell's Silver and Gold are not mandatory anymore though, but instead offer Soul-Shriven Motif (Silver) and Cadwell's Hat (Gold) for completing them.

Alright that clears things up, thanks! Does using the Soul Shriven Motif grant all of your characters access to it's style? Or does it only apply to the character that reads it?

Only the character who uses it can craft in the style, but the crafted gear can be given to other characters.

CP 160 is the equivalent of Veteran Rank 16 (old system) which is technically max level for gear and content. Everything past CP 160 is just minor stat upgrades via champion system, but not gear/content. You will still gain maximum amount of XP points if you kill/do CP 160 mobs and quests even if you have 1k+ CP. It's much better now because in the past - silver and gold was quest/level gated and only went up only to VR10 (CP100)

Silver/Gold is not mandatory - no, but doing it for achievements/skill points/titles/mementos etc is still recommended and you get some unique goodies from Cadwell too.

Egowen - v16 Dunmer Whipping Expert (Riding crops eluded her)
(Yes, I had to grind all these to v16)

When one Tamriel drops in about a month from now, or whenever it is, our characters are going to scale to whichever zone we are in, or the zone scales to our level. One of the two.

Technically the Cadwell zones have been scaled to higher levels. Previously, Silver zones were VR1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, and Gold zones were VR6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. The equivalent now for Silver is VR4, 7, 10, 13 and 15, while all Gold zones are now VR16 equivalent, which is still max level for content.

As phairdon said, once One Tamriel is released, everything including Cadwell's will be scaled, but Level 50 CP 160 will still be max level for content (which as before is equivalent to VR16).

Question - finished main quest line on alt but only given quest options in Journal for Silver - but cant face doing Silver questline again so soon (done recently on another alt) - seems I can go to Gold area & access the quests but they don't show in the Journal - still counted towards Gold?

They will count towards Gold, but you'll only get the final reward for Gold after completing and turning in Silver. (Although if you've already completed both Silver and Gold on another character, you will already have that reward, as it's a Collectible and therefore account wide.)
