New player, general feedback

Hello all

First post on the forums and would like to give a general feedback post about my thoughts about things so far starting to play this game.

First i bought the game almost a year ago i believe, but never bothered to actually play it until a few weeks ago when i finally got bored of final fantasy. I played WoW for 4 years and FF for 2 years. So coming into this game was a little more than a shock getting used to how the action bar and movement worked.

I was used to using WASD for movement tab targetting, and using my mouse for mouse over healing. So that was the first major hurdle. Just going to post a few points and go over what I current like and what as a new player coming from other MMOs have found to be the hardest adjustment.

1. Graphics. For me the immersion in a video game usually boils down to how "real" the graphics look and feel in the game, and ESO by far has impressed me in the regardless. I love exploring, seeing the sunrise/sunset, the rays of light shining through the trees. Very very well done. Not sure if maybe this is just me, but i feel that my character in creation always looks far better than when i actually see her in game. Maybe it is the lighting, and how the shadows are being cast, but something just always seems off after i see a character i just made load into the game.

2. Music. Haven't had to much time to explore the different areas, but so far the music feels as it fits the zone i'm in, and the combat music sounds pretty good as well. Don't really have to much to say on it other than so far i like it.

3. Exploration/questing. Such a nice change of not seeing "Go gather x amount of items" The quests are engaging and you for the most part because of all the voice acting feel as if you really are part of the quests. Greatly helps with immersion and the feeling of seeing your character grow in power. I find myself a lot of the times out in the world not really focusing on jumping from quest to quest, but rather just running in a direction and seeing what i find. A quest? A lockbox? Some gathering nodes? That in itself i can get lost in doing forgetting that i should be leveling up and gearing. So again a very nice change of pace where you can get lost in doing a particular activity outside the norm that helps keep you interested.

4. Delves/Public dungeons. Very those "lone" players that like to do things a lot on their own, easy content, some nice rewards, and if you just want to do something by yourself, hey you have some content to do. Might run into another player and help each other during a miniboss and such and become friends. Nice way of having people bump into one another.

5. Dungeons. Ok the first complaint of the post.
The good - The overall graphic design of the dungeons make them feel like dungeons. The story/quest of each dungeon is nice and once again helps with the overall immersion of the game.
The bad - Pretty much everything else at the moment for me. Before i play a game i try to read up on the type of class i will be playing and get a head start learning it. However the leveling dungeons (i.e. White gold tower that i am currently stuck on) is unforgiving at all in terms of trying to learn. Everything damn near one shots you, it took me two days to down the very first boss....the very first boss of a LEVELING dungeon. That is not a great way to encourage new players to stick with your game. Do i want difficult heroic type content? I sure do, but after i first get comfortable with healing (or whatever role you want to do) Not give me a dungeon that in terms of difficulty i would figure on seeing much further down in the leveling process.

I seriously almost uninstalled after that chaos. And please be aware, i WANT to like this game, i WANT to become an expert at it, but my god, zero forgiveness, almost makes you just want to give up. I do not feel powerful at all as a healer, instead of going into a fight like i would in WoW or FF with the thought of "I am going to rock this boss" instead in ESO my thought is "I wonder how many soul gems i am going to use giving rezzes out"

6. Gear/glamour/transmog/whatever you want to call it

I enjoy the idea of costumes, but i really was hoping to see a transmog/glamour system in this game. For those that do not understand what i mean. Lets say i have on a lvl 30 gear. I have a lvl 20 gear in my inventory i liked the look of better. I would like someway of clicking on my gear and turning it's look into that lvl 20 piece.
The dye system though...i wish other games implemented that kind of system. It really is a great way that people can be wearing the same look of gear, but have hundred of thousands of ways to dye it and make it look unique to them. Soon as i discovered it i spent hours dying all my costumes and gear seeing how each looked. I caved and bought with crowns the pact style and glass style and have been busy leveling my crafting so i can keep up with it so i can always have that type of gear on. (Again wouldn't be needed if a transmog/glamour system was introduced)

Thanks for reading my feedback, I hope to keep progressing

Uhm, White Gold Tower is an "end-game" dungeon.

Hi. Dude with the horns covered it - white gold tower isn't for leveling. It's an end game dungeon. You can level in the delves until you advance and get better gear and decide on a class and get that leveled up, etc...

To echo what everybody said, WGT is in no way a leveling dungeon. You want Spindleclutch, Banished Cells and Fungal Grotto for your first leveling instances.

Love your post and agree with all your feedback.

I especially agree with your feedback on the gear. As my characters level to the next tier the gear seems to look worse. I find gear I like the look of but have to give it up when it's time to upgrade to the next material.

I have also experienced a similar learning curve when grouping. Group expectations of skills and builds discourages me from attempting most group content. Builds that are fun solo do not seem to work in dungeons. This MMO is similar to every MMO I've played in that respect (EQ, EQ2, LotRO, TSW, GW2, SWtOR...).

This is still my current favorite.

Btw not sure if you're soloing these dungeons - banished cells, spindleclutch etc. These are meant to be 4 man dungeons. You will have many trouble trying to solo "Group dungeons"

Wgt, Imp prison, new dlc dungeons are hard for low levels but as I said it's not meant to be done solo.

If you want join a group - look to join an active guild. Use text chat, forums etc.

You can use activity finder and get put with a randoms - gives gd exp and also you get scaled to lvl so you can be lvl 15 and still do better than a lvl 210.
Make sure to pick the right role - dps, heal etc.

Tanks and healer get quick groups but dps have to wait a while.

    Ask if need more info.

I usually just choose random for the XP gain from the buff and white gold tower is listed under my dungeon finder as available even when i choose specific dungeons. Some are locked and say that they will become available when I reach a certain level. So if white gold is meant to be end-game, then i see no reason why it should be made available to me at this level.

As for the other post about soloing, no, i use the dungeon finder to enter them with a group. Thanks for letting me know it is an end game dungeon, guess i will just choose specific dungeons from here on out since every time i use random i always get it and never progress at all.

I believe it's a function of the DLC, but avoid WGT, or the prison, or even ruins early on

The dungeons that were the "entry" level originally are spindleclutch, fungal grotto, and banished cells. I would recommend spindle as the easiest if you want to get your feet wet in 4-man content.

There is a very big difficulty difference between the 'early' dungeons and the ones that came later with DLC (like WGT, or prison, those came with imperial city DLC). The early ones you can solo with a well-equipped character.

This game is mildy fun solo but is really meant for group stuff. Either player vs other players or running a group dungeon.

I was a soloist lonewolf all the way to reaching the then Vet 16 and was even still soloing more all the way to 501 CP. It was then after reaching 501, that I decided to join a guild. Since then, it has been more enjoyable that I'm with a guild with good people/members online regularly and doing stuff together in group events. Dungeons, both public and group, have been more easier and enjoyable and you get more XP while in group.. up to 5-6 times more than soloing. Queuing for random dungeons while soloing was horrendous, but queuing while already in a group, via guild, have always occurred within seconds. I'm still a lonewolf, by heart. As the saying goes, "You can take a tiger or lion out of the jungle, but you can never take the jungle out of the tiger/lion." So, I agree, ESO is better suited for groups.

The first dungeon you have access to is in your starting faction zone. For example, if you are playing Dominion, it would be Banished Cells. The Undaunted quest line will send you to your first Dungeon ant the quest line teaches you a little about dungeons. Once complete, you will unlock the two dungeons in the other factions starting zones. (Which you can travel directly into via wayshrines)

Your next dungeon will be in your next zone and when complete will unlock 2 more in the other faction zones and so on, and so on. 5 zones as you follow the storyline for your faction and 15 Dungeons and then number 16 in cold harbor. Then you have the normal versions of all the DLC Dungeons and then the Veteran versions of all of those.

When it comes to veteran Dungeons there is also a progression difficulty with most of the newer being more difficult.

Stick with the basic 16 normal on your way to level and you'll be fine. Great content.

    ^^ this, what Elijah said.

Also, there's a difference between being leveled to the content of a dungeon and actually being on the level of that content, and that difference would be how much you haves honed the abilities on your skill lines, how high you have leveled those skill lines themselves, how many of the skill passives you have activated, and so on. Swinging a pair of swords straight at the start is a lot weaker than swinging those same exact swords after you've activated damage-boost passives in the dual wield skill line, for example.

Agree. I generally prefer the more simple aesthetics of low level gear to high level stuff.

One additional thing to add to my feedback about dungeons.

It is already becoming annoying to use the dungeon finder to have a group pop, then almost right away whoever is leader disbands the group before i even get the chance to teleport in and now i'm stuck with a 15 minute wait. A penalty should NEVER be given to someone that did not elect to end or leave the dungeon. This type of thing i have never run into before, only in ESO have I been penalized for the actions of someone else.

@Elijah_Crow Thank you for that. The problem is that if certain dungeons like White Gold Tower should not be getting played by players that are my level (at the time i was 30) then they should not even show up in the random normal, or even the specific dungeon options.

Like right now i can go into random, or specific dungeons and it will let me queue for it. That should not happen then. I understand it is part of the DLC, but there should still be minimum level requirements then in place for those type of dungeons, so new players don't get placed in them while leveling.

I've just been queuing for the dungeons in my level range listed on this webpage
    http://tamrieljournal.com/eso-group-dungeons/

So i queue for the level 28-31 range. But a problem is that i can never get the daily random XP bonus, because more likely than not i will keep getting placed in groups for white gold tower.

I don't disagree with you. I think it has to do with the purchase of DLC content and their desire to be able to say "If you purchase, you can play at any level", but the reality is a bit different. I'm hear there are more changes coming with the group finder which may make all the difference in the experience. Hoping they get it right this time.
