PLEASE! An open plea to ZOS about torches

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_KaiSchober

Can you please allow us to walk with the /torch emote active? I would love exploring dark caves and walking around at night with the ability to sight-see with my torch active. The soft orange glow of the flame on a stone wall looks amazing! The player animations are already in the game, we see NPCs walking with torches all the time. You can set it to deactivate like normally when entering combat, using abilities or items or sprinting, crouching and jumping.

I know this might seem like a really minor thing compared to all the other stuff you have going on, but I feel very confident this would be a super easy fix to add and would improve the overall quality of the game for many players. I appreciate your consideration!

Been asking for this along time . Only problem being dungeons that make darkness on purpose as part of strategy challenge . They could still just disable torches in these so players could still have torch immersion fun .

Sounds good, but I wonder if they can have an Emote firing while the character is moving? Every emote I have tried cancels as soon as I move my character. Otherwise, one would have to equip the Torch, and then Weapon Swap to get to their weapon.

However making the emotes usable while walking would be the better alternative, as we could walk down the street drinking or juggling fireballs or whatever.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

They could have an adventurer personality that has you move with a torch out. The drunk personality has you running around with a drink in your hand. That would be a good way to implement it. Would be cool.

Coming to a Crown Crate loot box soon! Do you have the luck it takes to unlock a torch emote? Find out for just 400 Crowns!

I want the Flying Horse Dismount emote.

The one where you do the Roy Rogers getoff when entering a door-less building.

Could I get an off-hand equippable torch?

Maybe a burning damage passive in the twin blade & blunt? :)

Long as we have Almalexia's Lantern I doubt they'll care to do this.

It doesn't last long and other people can't see it. Also, this would take almost no work since the animation is already in the game. A simple tweak is all that is needed.

My friend sees my light ball when I use my lantern. If you can't then you are obviously experiencing a glitch. Hell, you can even use it on other players! Also it used to have a cooldown twice as long as its duration until I asked for an extension. You can now renew it almost immediately!

Still haven't encountered dark enough dungeon that I would need more light. Those were one of the few cool things in Skyrim though.

I still sayy the best way to do proper torches would be something similar to the "disguise" mechanic.
Equip torch in "disguise" slot, walk around with it, and then "drop" it when drawing your weapon or getting attacked, a bit like a disguise that disappears when entering combat...

I support this idea but ESO seem to be taking the road of offering choice instead of forcing difficulty mechanics(the random named loot is changing, a good thing) and pretty much every other TES moved toward making hardcore mechanics completely optional(fast travel, eat/drink/rest, quest markers, quick save - you can either use or ignore them) and at this moment turning your gamma down can provide enough darkness to almost every dungeon(artistically and not pitch black, what would be a waste of all the time developers spend building the level).

I ask myself, what is the difficulty of implementing a basic weapon, which happens to be a torch and thus cast light. I see that it could even synergize with the dual yielding attack animations.

It's not about needing it. You can turn your gamma up to make it bright everywhere. I happen to have mine turned down because I enjoy actual darkness. It's something any player can do. It's about immersion and aesthetic, and enjoying the world they built properly with real darkness and real torchlight.

Well, the assassin personality can twirl the Blade of Woe while running, so why not...?

Yes and like I've already said in this thread, the animations for walking at least with a torch already exist in the game. So the answer is yes, they can do this.

BTW I saw you last night in Wrothgar! ;D

First of all we need real dark nights and dungeons, including Cyrodill. The game has such nice lighting effecs, why can't they make a totally dark dungeon or real dark nights.

Same here. I mess around with settings more often than is probably healthy to try and replicate that same feeling, but I really do miss dark dungeons, night skies and that feeling of genuinely not knowing what's hiding in the shadows. I'd love to have torches made available.

They do, your gamma is turned up too high. Bring it down a bit and everything that's supposed to be dark will be suitably dark. I also do solo questing/PvE with my target glow turned completely off, it is way more immersive and makes your tactical approach actually matter.

No need to get snarkey, it doesn't matter what you call it...

The point is the personality is active while you are idling and inactive when you draw your weapon, and can be quick slotted if you want to turn it on at night.

They already had a "Drunk" personality with your character holding a beer mug and stumbling on PTS, so having your character hold a torch and do some observing animations for an "Explorer" or "Sentry" personality would be an easy way to fulfill this request.

I'd rather them just make the torch usable while walking, than to make an entire personality just for it.

Hmm I could see a lot of RP benefits to emotes working in motion but just asking in general....

    What would stop emotes?
-attacking or going through a load screen?

The same thing that stops it now, minus the walking. Which is, everything.

Well the restoration staff charge can illuminate, and the healing springs skill is like having your very own sun. But if you're not a magicka build the light the staff makes while charging is decent.
