It would be useful if there were crafting, and other channels specific to various needs that went game or alliance wide, plus tabs to keep them separate as to not loose them in the stream. I've seen it done in other games and it works well.

It is amazingly useful and I see it used in PVP all the time. It's great for when a guildie is talking for a long time and you are trying to let others know about something without interrupting. It's great for getting random groups together. It's great for communicating with those who do not have mic's or are encountering one of the numerous bugs where their chat stops working.

I would say a good 15% of the population uses it.

Off by default is not a must. It's one of the dumbest decisions ZOS has made. Having to tell people there's text chat and them be amazed it's there baffles me. Btw.... they immediately start using it and asking a bunch of questions as soon as I tell them about it.

Voice chat isn't off by default, text chat shouldn't be either. Just like voice chat, you want it off then go turn it off yourself.

Both have similar issues, and it's not the tool, its the use. Voice is on, it people turn it off as they spam nonsense. But the tool is awesome.

For me its about the content over the mechanism, and used right with the right people Voice is king. Thus I would hate newbies to start, and feel ignored typing away on that rubbish onscreen keyboard thinking people aren't listening.

But I hear you, as long as the toggle is a must it's cool. O personally see zero value as I can do all I need without poking away on that rubbish keyboard like Guliver in Lilliput

I am not putting my controller down to type on a keyboard
I am not sacrificing good sound to add a text pad. Does not work well with 3rd party head phones.

I see very few text bubbles even in the undaunted areas.

Text chat has really added nothing to the game from a console perspective.

On PC you are actively using the keyboard so typing is natural. Does not work that way in console.

My guild chats are very active with grouping up/ crafting requests / trade offers and general chit chat. I also use zone alot to call for help with world bosses & and sharing dailies in the dlc zones. In the little bit I've done i found Zone is super helpful in pvp to get people to the right towers/towns for defences.

On PC you are actively using the keyboard so typing is natural. Does not work that way in console.

Just because it doesn't offer anything for you doesn't mean others feel the same, that's a ridiculous statement spoken like a fact when in fact it's just you're opinion.

Also, not everyone has the same setup as you. I have a 42" TV, and I like sitting as close to it as possible without being too close to see the peripherals well, which with my TV's size means I sit with my knees a few inches from my TV stand (sitting in a computer chair with wheels, so I move the chair to and from the TV as needed). As a result of this, I have the ability to put a keyboard right in front of the TV on the stand and have easy access to it while playing, allowing me to drop the controller in my lap and type something quickly before picking it back up again.

My only serious complaints about Text Chat are that you can't type while fighting and you can't type while dead, both of which are serious detractors that make no sense to be like that. On PC that's one thing, you use the same buttons to fight that you use to type, but these are consoles and keyboards are absolutely not being used to play with, so having it work that way on Consoles is pointlessly limiting and utterly without sense. And not being able to type while dead is equally confounding, you can use voice chat while dead so there's absolutely no valid reason to not be able to use text chat.

It's an excellent and extraordinarily useful feature though even with those detractors, no question. If you don't find it useful for you then that's your prerogative, but that's no grounds to suggest that it adds nothing to the game, that's a profoundly foolish and wildly inaccurate thing to say.

It seems to depend on what area you are in and how many players are around. On my screens, the text chat are active with guild members. If I am in an area like Mournhold, Stormhold or Reapers March, and yes, particularly the undaunted enclaves, it does get quite active. I also use the text chat to give a quick shout out to other guild members when we are organizing for a group event.

On xbox eu, my guilds are using it a lot.

Wayrest is using it a lot (main DC hub)

Zone chat in pvp it's being used a lot

Not been to many random zones I don't think though. So not sure

    On the whole, great addition.

Yes there are, when it was first released I did a google search for text chat in Elder Scrolls and found several pages with guides listing how it worked, you shouldn't have any trouble finding any information you may want by doing so as well (I'd post a link but I'm on my phone and didn't bother bookmarking the page after learning what I needed to know).

I believe its used by more than 50% population

I am not putting my controller down to type on a keyboard
I am not sacrificing good sound to add a text pad. Does not work well with 3rd party head phones.

I see very few text bubbles even in the undaunted areas.

Text chat has really added nothing to the game from a console perspective.

On PC you are actively using the keyboard so typing is natural. Does not work that way in console.

Never stated anything as fact. Calm down. I did not know that I had to type /opinion in front of it so every one understood there was no claim to fact.

I have no issue with people liking it it. If there are people that are enjoying it then fantastic. I hope some people had there enjoyment levels elevated.

I still do not see the need for it on console.

It's called the English Language, use it properly or don't, but you can't hold it against me when you don't.

I guess the same had to be said for you as well. You can't make something up in your mind and apply it to my words.

You said something as a fact that wasn't, you can't just use whatever words you want in whatever order you want and have them mean something other than what they actually mean. And also I'm perfectly calm, if anything I almost laughed out loud when I saw your first post, not quite but close.

I can tell you are bothered by it.

Again never stated anything as fact.

Hmm... Bothered, that's a funny word for amused, not the one I would have picked but then you seem to have a loose relationship with English, whatever floats your boat dude doesn't bother me in the slightest. If you didn't mean what you said then we have nothing more to talk about, but it's you who said it wrong, all I did was read the words as you wrote them, and if anyone seems to have a problem with it it's you buddy.

Some people were trying to sell things in say chat but when I tried to respond they never got back to me. Maybe it was zone? Idk what the difference is.

Say is proximity based, yell has a longer range, and zone is exactly what it sounds like, everyone in the zone can see it even if they're on the opposite side.

Also there's a chance someone else beat you to it and already bought whatever was being sold, the person may have just not bothered to respond to you to tell you as much.
